This question has just been put to the listeners on Woman's Hour.

I wondered what you were all wearing.

As we are shortly off to see the CG for 2 days then moving onto the New Forest for a week I am dressed in what I would describe as smart casual.

Nice grey/black/silver striped sweater with a slightly nautical feel.
Light grey woolly cotton jacket embellished with an Art Deco style brooch
Dark Grey comfy trousers from M & S - good for the journey.
Purple suede and leather flat shoes from Hotter, can't wear heels now.

Admittedly I am not a fashion icon because comfort is my aim.

Having spent a few hours with my two young boys I will be looking as if I have been dragged through a hedge backwards, as my mother used to say. grin

Old habits die hard Elegran, I'm the same although not not in a 'corporate' type job I still have work/best/home clothes (not sure what 'best' is as rarely go anywhere to dress up!

Also have sizes 12 - 16 (' just in case' of what?), and rarely sort anything out (again 'just in case')......

I need sorting out big time as far too many clothes but keep wearing the same things over and over again hmm

Any advice very welcome (just how many tee shirts and tops does anyone need - I blush to even count them!)

kitty I notice your a fan of purple too smile its my favourite colour. I have to stop myself from making a bee line for anything that's purple or shades of when shopping.

Is it possible to have too much purple hmm ?

ninathenana Sat 16-May-15 11:00:06

An old 'A' line green skirt and an old pink top, purple slippers. I have some housework to do, then I'm going to slob smile

Wondering whether to risk going out tonight without a mac. Have a little walk from car-park to theatre. I remember thinking grannies dressed cautiously but you realise that you can't sprint through rain to get warm, as you did as a girl.

At the moment dressing-gown and socks. In an hour's time it will be black trousers and indigo/white kurta top for a birthday lunch with my family. I tend to slob around in Tshirt and stretch pants at home and put on something more presentable when I go out. I suppose it dates back to when I couldn't afford to replace my better clothes very often so I tried not to wear them out too fast. Habit dies hard.

Black Grey cos faded denim trousers, my "not really jeans" trousers, a short sleeved t-shirt under a long-sleeved polo shirt both under a baggy old woollen jumper that I bought in a charity shop n years ago where n is a large positive integer.

Why? Because that's what's comfortable and suitable for bumbling around on a boggy brae in Scotland. Even in May.

Through the winter I wear churidar or leggings under my trousers, so I have cast a clout before May (or may blossom) is out smile

I thought I needed to sharpen up a bit after reading this thread; went shopping yesterday and realised that I came home with similar boring clothes to those already in the wardrobe.

Today: old navy linen trousers, old s/s top - plus navy cardigan which I will discard when I get off here as I am going to clean the conservatory and plant up some outside pots.

A stylist came to give our group a talk recently; perhaps I should have taken more note. She did say she still wore clothes that were 20 years old.

Orange, black and white Wallis tunic top with black linen trousers, black pumps. Amber earrings and big dress ring. Out at garden centre.

Later into blue grotty track bottoms, grotty top, and really old brown suede loafers to plant up spring onion plants and lettuce plants. Got fed up buying salad stuff from supermarket and not being able to use them all before they need throwing out.

Having noted some of the variety of modern clothes GNs seem to wear I think I need an overhaul like you are going to have Marmight with the stylist. Do tell me how you get on.

I think I dress quite conservatively and need to sharpen up a bit. [smilej]

kittylester Fri 15-May-15 17:43:09

Blue jeans, black t shirt and a chunky cardigan with purple loafers again.

Just come in from the garden where I have been doing the watering wearing all the above but purple slippers instead of purple shoes. Slippers now quite wet! shock

Note to self - buy crocs and keep them by the back door.

loopylou Fri 15-May-15 17:29:57

Jeggings (navy], pink tee shirt, lilac cowl neck sweatshirt, thick socks, fleece gilet and I'm freezing sad

Sun's just about out but not very warm out.
Been working from home, so got really cold.
Just put CH on.......

janerowena Fri 15-May-15 17:00:21

Skinny navy trousers, long grey 3/4 sleeved top from Phase 8 with navy butterflies on it, jade green cardigan and black shoe boots. Because I have just got back from shopping. It was too hot for the cardigan while I was out, but I need it on again in the house.

I was looking at a young man wearing tracksuit bottoms in Sainsbury's, wondering why I simply cannot approve of them outside a gym unless someone is going jogging. But as DBH isn't even 50 yet and I've only just got him into wearing jeans when we go out, I can't ever see us going down that route!

Ariadne Fri 15-May-15 09:04:08

Navy trousers and t shirt (with 3/4 sleeves!!) and a longish linen sleeveless button through gilet type thingy in a lighter blue. Blue and white scarf, comfy Ecco boots. Serious shopping ahead! grin

Marmight Fri 15-May-15 08:57:15

Same as Wednesday. I am becoming boring which is possibly why my 3 daughters have given me, as a birthday present, a voucher for a 'Wardrobe Review' by a 'stylist'. confused[quakinginshoes]

We are both slobbing around in our PJ's atm. However I had to laugh, because we are tidying up etc. before our friends arrive in a hour, Mrs P is in her nightie + an apron smile super sexy look !

Coolgran65 Wed 13-May-15 16:41:54

Katek and Nankate thankyou.
Alas I am not tall, about 5'6", and I'm definitely not slim.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 13-May-15 15:23:14

Forgot to add the sunshine

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 13-May-15 15:21:48

First time this year of wearing shorts today (in garden)

kittylester Wed 13-May-15 15:13:23

Today, pink cotton jumper, multicoloured scarf, blue jeans and purple suede loafers. I've had to make a bit of an effort as I'm doing the school run and DGD1 'mentions' it otherwise!

TriciaF Wed 13-May-15 14:41:00

The last few days I've changed into loose, cool trousers and cotton tops, because it's a lot warmer now.
Today I put on a turquoise cotton Tee shirt which I bought in 2002 from Cottontraders - one of three. It has worn so well and is pure cotton, none of that elastane which all cotton clothes seem to contain now.

Marmight Wed 13-May-15 13:12:49

HOT?! Lucky people...
I am wearing jeans with a cornflower blue jumper which I bought yesterday in JL sale with a rather fetching necklace - blue/aubergine/green - which I also treated myself to yesterday as a birthday present to self wink. (On the upside it isn't raining today - yet)

tanith Wed 13-May-15 11:55:19

Black legging flowery tunic top with flat black shoes to walk to the pool for my swim now I'm home in the garden in an old sun dress I wear to garden when it's this hot lol!!

whitewave Wed 13-May-15 11:22:27

Just going to change from slobby stuff into something a bit more decent as going to a garden centre to see about water features to replace pond. Already have a mini-waterfall so will keep that and get a bucket or something to retain water to recycle into waterfall Shades of Charlie Dimmock!!

rosequartz Wed 13-May-15 10:55:36

Jeans and started with a long sleeved top, now a short sleeved top as I think it's getting warmer! DGD coming later! sunshine
