You can't seem to get them with modesty panels any more. Anyone remember them?

Flickety I have only just read your OP and had to grin

I looked on the Figleaves website www.figleaves.com/us/swimwear/swimsuits/?link=swim_SP2_swimsuits and can see the problem - most of the swimsuits do indeed seem to be armour-plated.

However I found this one that may fit your requirements:

I love Figleaves smile

I recently bought a 'boyleg' suit for my pool swimming so comfy , BHS suits seem to fit nicely but not sure they do any without the inner bra built in..

Just back from Aquafit. Boy oh boy do you see some swimsuits there. Clearly not everyone gets a new one when the elastane/lycra gives out!! I myself wear a bathing costume and regret bitterly the limited availability these days of bathing machines!

I discovered "boyleg" swimsuits recently, too, and was overjoyed.

I got a lovely fuchsia striped one from John Lewis last year.

I would just like a bin bag to cover the poundage!!

My local swimming pools have a selection of pretty but fit-for-purpose costumes, not a padded top in sight!
I have plenty of my own padding, and these days feel more comfortable in a modest 'boy-leg' number.

I have just noticed on eBay you can get new Zoggs swimsuits for around £15. Couldn't post link, but you can just search for Zoggs swimsuits on the eBay site.

Like you, I wanted a nice cossie I could wear to actually swim in i.e. With no padding , wires or those straps which fall off. I ended up getting a lovely one from Figleaves.com I think it is a Zoggi (?) which is the Australian equivalent of speedo brand. It's navy with Hawaiian style pink flowers down on side. It's super comfortable and has lasted brilliantly. I like it so much I even took it on holiday in preference to my " holiday" cossie. I think it was about £20 but well worth it.

Flickety look on line - Asda direct

FlicketyB Sun 17-May-15 22:22:19

Marmight thanks for that. Nearest ASDA is 30 miles away (although they have an ENORMOUS warehouse four miles away) but I am visiting DS in York next weekend and I think there is one there, so I will call in.

I find regular wear in swimming pools ruins any swimming costume, regardless of quality so I just like to keep buying cheap and cheerful ones and chuck them when they start sagging.

I suspect that modern swimming costumes, unless you buy speedos, are not designed for swimming, they are designed for show when lying on the beach or pool side, hence all the shaping and tummy control.

Marmight Sun 17-May-15 21:02:16

I buy mine from Asda, in fact, I got one yesterday (with a zebra on the front) and the foam 'fillets' are removable through a small gap at the sides. I find they shift around when the cozzie is wet and you come out looking deformed grin. I always fish them out and chuck them. At £12 I can afford to replace the swimmers each year or when the elastane starts to go.......

You can get swimsuits that come in cup sizes and no foam padding. They are usually underwired and quite expensive but fit really well and comfy. Fantasie/Bravissimo.

Wish they came with a metal stomach plategrin

FlicketyB Sun 17-May-15 19:44:04

I had thought of that but online you cannot see, nor do the garment descriptions tell you, whether the swimming costume will be 'enhanced' or whether, if so, the pads will be easy to remove. Armour plate seems to be standard these days.

Ana Sun 17-May-15 19:37:45

Can't you shop online, Flickety?

I know it's not the same as seeing the item 'in the flesh' as it were, but I BHS are very speedy with their deliveries and have a no-quibble returns policy.

FlicketyB Sun 17-May-15 19:32:26

Why do all swimming costumes now come with irremovable foam breast plates?

It seems that unless you want a black serious swimmers speedo costume, which I don't, it is assumed that you want to be armour plated, and with some costumes offering tummy control as well, I understand this is essential a control stretch lining.

I enjoy a leisure swim, every week or so and I have regular spa days with DD. All I want to do is buy jolly floral or cheerful plain coloured swimming costumes with no added padding or control. I have bought armoured swimming costumes in the past but the breast plates have been loosely sewn in three places with the lining not attached so it has been fairly easy to remove them, but this year lining and foam are sewn very thoroughly all round the edge and are impossible to remove.

The problem is that I am smaller on top than below and only a B cup so the wretched foam pyramids take on a life their own that has only an approximate relationship with my anatomy.

I used to get most of my swim suits in BHS but both accessible branches have closed down. So far I have looked in Sainsburys, M&S, M&Co and Debenhams. I hope to go to Matalan later this week when I visit DD.

Can anyone suggest anywhere else?
