Would you wear a bikini

Oh heavens, no! I would need a bikini with big pants that came up to my armpits, so that my flabby tummy didn't drape itself all over my thighs!!

Dear god, no!! One of those full length burka type swimsuits would be best!

Blimey! me in a bikini yo! ho! Can't really get away with a swimming costume but needs must. There is something to be said for the invisible older folk - I hope I disappear entirely when I have my swim suit on.

In May 1976 I was living in Germany and had just had my second baby. It was a scorching hot summer and my closest friend bought me a bikini that she insisted I wear when we sat out in the garden - her in the sun, me in the shade - with our babies. It is the only time in my life I ever wore a bikini and I felt incredibly fat and self-conscious. I recently came across a photo of us taken of us in our bikini's in the July of that year and am amazed at how slender I actually was, in spite of only just having given birth!!!

Having seen photos of Nigella Lawson in a burka swimsuit, I'd look like a walrus, better not go there........

I haven't worn one since I was in my 30s. I go for a swimsuit with a hold it all in panel on the tummy. Samantha Cameron is pictured in the press today in a bikini. She looks amazing in hers.

I only owned one bikini. I wouldn't wear one now! DH has a job to get me into a swimsuit. I am a reluctant swimmer at the best of times.

I wear them at the sauna; would wear them on holiday abroad but don't have many holidays abroad these days. That's with a sarong and a shirt over the top when I'm walking around anywhere [plus shades and a straw hat so I'm anonymous]. The bikini only emerges when I plonk myself on a beach and the rest of it gets put back on before I stand up!

Absolutely not, but a tankini is the best solution for anyone who needs access the loo in a hurry!!!

The world is definitely not ready for me in a bikini . A tankini on holiday is my preferred swimwear - covers me up and more comfortable than a one piece as I'm quite long waisted.

I wouldn't wear one for swimming here but on a hot beach abroad I do. The body is not perfect but I no longer care about the saggy bits on show I just enjoy the air on bare skin.

I would if it wasn't for the big new hip replacement scar.

petallus, your post hit a nerve with me, I don't have the hip replacement issue but I have had horrible skin problems in the past and wanted to cover myself up so I empathise. All kinds of scars are to be seen when people are on the beach and this thread confirms that none of us feel we're in the "get your body beach ready" gang. If it bothers you so much, could you get a bikini with those very fetching 1930's type shorts rather than a nickers?

jenn - I have a plain black swimming costume for swimming but for lying on a warm beach, reading a book, like you I enjoy the air on as much bare skin as possible. We Brits are not like other northern europeans who strip off happily for a game of beach ball. I suspect like some of us, they can't wait to get as much sun on their sun starved bodies as possible.

No - too much saggy skin - and fat floppy, flabby bits.

I wouldn't dare wear a bikini as I hate being looked at and I would think everyone was looking at me thinking "what on earth......."

Anyway my middle bit is too flabby. Yuk. Best covered up at all times.

I last wore one about 5 years ago on holiday abroad. A cute little number covered in red hearts. I'd convinced myself I looked okay in it, could see many more beach bodies around that were worse than mine and was just relaxing into the situation when a dainty little teenager strolled into the pool area wearing the same bikini but 3 sizes smaller. That was the heartkini's first and last outing.

I wear a bikini on holiday. I cover it up with a sarong or kaftan type thing whilst moving about. I find bikinis more comfortable than swimsuits. I dont really care what anyone thinks and anyway, who is judging. My husband thinks l look fine and his is the only opinion I care about. Mind you if l was on holiday with my lovely slim dil l might think differently!
