I have a big occasion coming up and on impulse, I have made an appointment at a local salon for eyelash extensions, as my lashes are rather sparse and Im not a fan of loads of mascara. Since booking the appointment Im having second thoughts as Ive heard they can weaken your natural eyelashes which is the last thing I need. The beautician assures me this is not true. Has anyone any experience of these lashes? I would love feedback from anyone who has tried them.

Yes, I've had them and loved them. My eyelashes are sparse too smile they definitely didn't weaken them. I was told to be careful when washing and not to rub my eyes etc. but I kept forgetting and hey didn't last as long as I thought they would (about 2/3 weeks I think)
I wouldn't hesitate to have them again. I'm sure you'll enjoy them.
PS. I didn't have the great long ones.

Thanks Andyf. That's very reassuring. I dont want the really long ones and I'll be happy if they last the weekend although hopefully they will last a week or two. Thanks again for the feedbacksmile

I would juts be careful if you have hay fever or itchy/dry eyes in which case you may be better off with eye lash tint and a moisturising mascara.

I had them for my daughters wedding, and as I wear specs the couldnt be too long because they'd rub on my glasses. I thought they were amazing, no mascara to worry about, no residue lurking in your eye lines. Mine lasted about 3 weeks and I would most certainly have them again. Do your homework and use someone who is qualified to do them.

I've had eye lash extensions twice. They look great, but don't last more then three weeks, whatever they tell you in the shop. Also, be careful not to use any oil based cleansers near your eyes, as that will hasten the loss of the lashes. There are special oil free cleansers that you can purchase if you want to preserve them.

The point about weakening your own lashes could be valid. I would suggest you save the experience for special occasions, and not have them all the time. . . and I would have the longer lashes for a dramatic effect.

Thank you all for your helpful comments. I was thinking of having them for my sons wedding in a couple of weeks. I dont have itchy eyes or hay fever luckily so I am going to go ahead. Thanks again.smile

Oh yes do, you'll love them! I had them when I went on a cruise and it was great not having to bother with mascara and still look reasonably glamorous. Just for special occasions I'm sure they wouldn't do any damage to your own, they haven't done to mine. Only problem is when they start to fall out it can look quite strange when there's only one or two left! In the end, I pulled the remaining few out. Hope it goes well and enjoy the wedding.

Thanks Hotmama. I'm really looking forward to it.

My daughter in law is a beautitian and she does lots of infils, presumably that's when they start to fall out she can fill in with new ones, not sure, but this thread has made me want to have mine done again! There is no comparison with extensions and tinted lashes, I've had both and the tinted lashes pale into insignificance. Would recommend brow threading and tinting though as well though.

I've often wondered if eye lash extensions would look OK on me but have never had the nerve to get them done.

Given that lash extensions are quite expensive and don't last long, have you tried a base coat that you put under mascara? I use the Chanel one - it's quite expensive but lasts quite a long time and certainly helps make my lashes (which are also very sparse) look much more defined.

I do use an Estee Lauder base coat for everyday. Its very good but l wanted extra oomph for my sons wedding in a couple of weeks.

As someone whose figure is not perfect it is always Important to me that hair makeup eyelashes nails etc ..the peripherals are good. So I had lashes done. ..verdict fun but not worth time effort and money. They look good in the beginning. But once they start to fall out I became aware of the thinner gaps! And for anyone with itchy eyes its a no no. Still looking for the perfect mascara. Whatever the adverts say and how ever much they cost they still clump. Of course all the models who are advertising mascara are wearing
false eyelashes. Hey ho!!

I love having eyelash extensions but now I've moved, there's no-one nearby that offers them. You can always learn to apply strip lashes yourself for special occasions. Use YouTube for guidance. Only use good quality lashes and with a bit of practice, they can look amazing. Definitely do not be tempted to pull out eyelash extensions as you will pull out your own eyelashes with them. Use a proper remover.
