I thought a mirror was a mirror.

It's a known fact that shop changing room mirrors are made to flatter. Looking at that some are more effective than others !!

I am assuming it must be a known fact, as no one else has commented.
I didnt know, but I do now.

I suppose, thinking about it, mirrors at fairgrounds are distorted in some way.
But I didnt know they can be made out of different materials etc.

Maybe this is why I can try an item on in the shop and think it looks fine and then get home, try it on and wonder what I was thinking to buy it!

Either that, or your own mirror is wrong smile

Mirrors are just things that bounce back light. In ancient times they were made of polished brass or obsidian, but they can be of anything that takes a smooth enough finish to reflect the scene. for a long time they have usually been made of glass with a coat of silver or aluminium, with layers of coatings.

" . . .most often coated with silver or aluminium, implemented by a series of coatings:

Tin chloride
Silver
Chemical activator
Copper
Paint"

Feel free to ignore this bit of unrequested information, but I thought STB might like the input.

My bathroom mirror makes me look much better than any others in the house, so I try to use that one as much as possible.

Thanks Elegran.
I had no idea.
I shall look at mirrors in a whole new light!

When buying something fitted, take a friend or GD with a camera phone. Better than a mirror!
