Happy Christmas, Hairdresser!

I usually give a tip to the girl who shampoos my hair because she probably doesn't earn much, but the hairdresser has put up his prices quite a lot recently so I don't tip him.
My last appointment was before the Christmas greetings time and my next one will be after!

Accept the present with a smile - after all, you have probably paid for it

My hairdresser is quite clever and has set the price at 48 CHF- so everyone pays with a 50 and leaves the change.

I don't feel quite so bad now, thank you! This is the same hairdresser who asks for a 25% deposit when I make an appointment and a 50% deposit if the appointment is in December. Before all the kerfuffle over presents this morning the girl on the till asked me how much deposit I had paid. Well, I couldn't remember because I later changed my mind over what I wanted done so the price was different (bear with me). They had not recorded the amount of my deposit, only the fact that I had paid one, so they didn't know what to deduct from my bill. In the end, they said they would phone me when they'd tracked down the payment and let me know how much I owe. I'm still waiting but not with bated breath!

I do tip my hairdresser because firstly she does my hair really well and secondly I know the tips are all pooled and then divided up, so everyone gets a share.

I go to a cheap sit and wait hairdresser and pay less than half of what I used to pay. Therefore I am happy to leave a small tip. They will get no more at Christmas because you get someone different every time so I have not built up a relationship. When the same person did my hair every time they would get a card, no more.

I'm glad you didn't refuse the gift nottooold. They probably enjoy giving them, and it helps to keep the customers coming back. Good business sense. You don't need to give back.

NTO that pen thingy with the rubber end is probably an iPad/tablet stylus!

An ipad stylis, so that's what it is. Perhaps they'll give me the ipad next year!

They phoned back half an hour ago to say they'd checked their records and I have not paid a deposit. ??? But their policy is that you DO pay a deposit - 50% this month. However, I've checked my own credit card statements and, they are right, I have not paid one. I give up. perhaps I should find another hairdresser.

Like loopy I always leave a tip in the shared box on the counter, and always buy a Christmas present, as she does my hair well.It's not a well paid job, unless you are the owner.

Mine is the owner, but a lot of hairdressers these days are self-employed, they 'rent a chair' from the salon owner.

My hairdresser owns the shop so I don't tip unless one of the employed stylists does it for me when she is away. I might take her some chocs though.

I object to my tip to my lovely stylist having to be shared with the owner and other employees so no longer leave a tip.

My hairdresser gave me a £5 off voucher for use in Jan so I'll just about make it in time to be able to use for my next trim. I never know what to tip and tend to give him (a senior stylist) £3 and the shampoo girl £2. I'm sure other people in London are more generous but it does miff me a bit that my hairdresser doesn't work on Tuesdays, the seniors discount day, and so I still pay full whack. As the hairdressers' is just around the corner and by a bus stop I use a lot, he and the owner always wave when they see me (pretty good at the customer relations), so it would be embarrassing to leave and try another hairdresser (I do usually like the way he cuts my hair even though I could do with much less of the chat about his family!)
