I've been to the hairdresser this morning. I've used the same one for several years and never leave a tip. This is not on principle but because I find it embarrassing and, anyway, my DD tells me there is no need to tip hairdressers these days. When I'd paid, I was presented with a 'Christmas present' of a pretty carrier bag containing a small pot of nail cream, a shampoo and something that looks like a pen with a rubber tip. I've no idea what that's for. While I was standing there, another client presented the hairdresser with what looked like a beautifully wrapped box of chocolates. I crept out quietly with everyone calling out 'Merry Christmas!' to me as I closed the door. Now I feel like Scrooge and wish I'd had the courage to refuse the present. Does anyone else get into this sort of predicament?
