Like Loopyloo I too I find milk bottle gums help my nails stay strong, but I prefer the ones from Bassetts and Marks and Spencer.
Bassetts jelly babies are also excellent for nails.

Try a cube of jelly or a handful of jelly sweets every day or so Victoria, my nails are harder and grow far quicker since I started eating a few milk bottle gums each day - I'm sue Haribo gums would do the same.
I'm having to file my nails every week, they grow so quickly, never had such good finger nails ?

My nails are very ŵeak and brittle. I must have spent a fortune on them, trying this and that. Nothing seems to work. I have also resorted to painting them with Opi nail envy varnish. But really, it's expensive and no different to any other nail hardener.
I am now wondering if I have some sort of illness and should maybe see a gp. Apparently, they can tell a lot about your health by examining your nails.

Feel like a bit of a time waster going just for that. But fed up with my nails looking scraggy all the time. Will try the vitamin e oil, but don't hold out much hope.

I've never had any beauty treatments, besides having my hair cut and coloured regularly. I used to get stressed out over that but I have now learned to relax and enjoy it as Anya says. I think I would get extremely bored though if I went for facials etc.

Yes, I have my eyebrows done every so often, a pedicure, a facial, a massage when the fancy or need takes me. I suffered a painful shoulder injury when I slipped on wet grass while playing cricket with the GC last summer and suffered for months until the massage cured it.

Hairdresser regularly where hair (obviously) is washed, conditioned and cut, but I blow it dry myself - the hairdresser passes me a brush and the dryer. So that saves money.

I used to find this stressful, as some have mentioned above, but then realised it's all about relaxing and letting the treatment be an enjoyable process...and having a good natter.

I've never had a facial, and I'm not quite sure what having one entails. When I mentioned at home that I was considering it, my son said "It's going to take more than one, mum!"

Yes - because I think having reached the age of 73 I am worth a little self pampering!

I have a manicure every 4 - 5 weeks, a pedicure every couple of months, a good haircut every 7 - 8 weeks and facials approximately once a month. I've been going to the same lady at the nail salon for five or six year but have changed hairdressers in the last year, because I thought it was time for as different style .......and asked a friend who has a great haircut who cuts her hair!

It's not that I am not focused on trying to make myself look any younger or trying to reverse the ageing process because I am proud to be 73 - but making the effort to maintain my appearance is a choice and in some way is confidence booster too.

I have my eyebrows waxed and my eyelashes tinted every four weeks for £26.50. Recently I've started having a facial every eight weeks for another £45. I do really need my heavy monobrow waxing, but the facial is more about pampering.

I suppose facial electrolysis might count as a beautician treatment. I fell through the net of getting it prescribed so I'm having to pay for it myself. So far I've had 40 hours at a total cost of £2096.

Never been to a beautician, and even have to psych myself up before going to the hairdresser. I always used to come out feeling irritated with the style and have to wash my hair immediately! Now I just ask for a wash and cut with a rough dry, which seems to be less annoying.
Incidentally, I always find my nails get very brittle if I use nail varnish for more than a couple of weeks, so I wouldn't risk a gel. I remember my mum only painting the top of the nail and leaving the half moon 'to breathe'. No-one seems to do this any more, but I wonder if there was some science to that practice?

I share your problem Bluesmum but found a 'cure'. I rub Vitamin E oil into nails a couple of times a day and it really works for me after a few weeks. I get the oil from our local Holland and Barret. Worth a try, and easy to do while watching TV or otherwise relaxing. Good luck.

No beautician but my hairdresser comes every week.

I have gel nails and love them. Had a hot seawweed wrap once and itched all over!

I have someone who comes to my house, which is great! I met her when I used to go to Curves and she has been doing a facial and waxing (lip and chin!) regularly with the occasional mani or pedi. Hair is cut regularly but I'm now experimenting with growing out the colour to see how grey I really am!!!!!

I have always had very weak, peeling fragile nails and when I discovered Biogel Sculpture nails, I thought I had found the perfect solution! For nearly a year I went every 3-4 weeks and for the first time in my life, I had beautiful, strong nails that got lots of compliments. - until, I developed an allergy to something in the nail treatment, don't know what, but my own nails were separating from the nail bed! Had to stop going, back to using OPI Nail Envy, very unsuccessfully, and weak, very short nails!

I have regular electrolysis, but otherwise do not visit a beautician for anything else.

I did once have a hot stones massage on a spa day. It was pleasant, but not enough to pay separately for another, although I would quite happily have another if it was included in a spa day.

Until I had to stop working, I had my eyebrows and eyelashes done every month and gel nails too. Now I do my own (badly). I used to see someone else every month and choose from Reiki, Indian head massage and reflexology. I really miss the blissful feeling.

I go for shellac nails now and again, don't wear it all the time.
Get my eyebrows done every 8 weeks.
Eyelash tint if going on holiday.

DH gives me vouchers and and at present I have £90 which I will use just before going on holiday in May. Probably get a facial, top lip, eyebrows, chin, wax. And as a special treat I was thinking of trying the hot stones as mentioned by pollyparrot.

Have any of you tried the hot stones massage? Highly recommended for complete relaxation.

Largoglass, I love shellac on my toes! It's so long lasting. I have a big toe nail that's very prone to splintering if I knock it and the shellac works as a protector too.

Only problem I have is choosing a colour lol

I'm not long home from my monthly manicure and pedicure and feel as if I'm walking on air!! Must have shellac on my nails as feel undressed without.

Hairdresser every six weeks for cut and blow dry and colour every three months.

Love my pampering sessions plus all the gossip....

I have a pedicure every 6 weeks or so as my feet are appalling. My beautician allows and extra 30 minutes for my appointment (at no extra charge) as we can't get all the gossiping and foot work done in her usual time allocation.

Yes, the friendship and the gossip is part of it for me as well.

When I was working it was my treat every fortnight , hair done and manicure, pedicure and the best foot massage ever!

Now , I go much less to the hairdressers, only once every few months , but I still have a pedicure and foot massage every 3-4 weeks. I'm diabetic so she keeps a close eye on any changes in my feet , and it's so relaxing.

We're friends now as I have been going to the same beautician for over 15 years. It's my treat to myself. Oh and we have a good old gossip too.
