Grey hair

I have been growing my hair and it has started to go grey. I used a semi permanent colour on it and everyone said it took years off me. However, the colour really irritated my face and neck, so I have booked into a salon for highlights. Don't know whether I am doing the right thing, is it just better to go grey gracefully it's just that my friends tell me I look better with it coloured.

Luckylegs well, at least now you know for sure. It is a shame one couldn't have tried it in the virtual world as it would have been much cheaper and quicker but I suppose it is necessary to stand under the hairdo to feel it properly. smile
Just a thought -perhaps now you can stash the cash and have a splurge on something special. A new outfit? hmm

Well had my hair done, 3 different shades of blonde going through and people comment on how nice it looks, however, my hair grows really quickly and although you are not supposed to notice highlights growing out, you can with mine. It needs doing again after 5 weeks. I found it very expensive and time consuming having it done but thought it would last months, so I am going to try putting a semi permanent colour on, if that doesn't work, I will just go grey.

I am about to find out what my hair is like now that I can't dye it, my sister is curious and if she likes mine she says she will go natural too.

Did the salt and pepper not season the steaks GJ?

granjura Wed 04-May-16 17:14:34

I had steaks put in for quite some time- but I now love my salt and pepper hair and would not colour it again.

I decided to stop putting henna on my hair, it wasn't looking nice anymore, to see what my hair looked like. I'm pleased I did, I really like it grey and it suits me. I feel more confident than when I was trying to hide it.
I didn't used to get compliments about my hair but now I do.
I kept it long although I always wear it up in an upside down ponytail knot kind of affair. It's hard to describe but it gives my hair height without being too structured.

My brutally honest daughters have promised to tell me when my face does not'match'my hair (currently mid brown) alea
I am relatively unwrinkled (the pay back for greasy skin in youth and a little excess weight?) and because I had my DCs late in life people think I'm younger than I am
But I will bow to the inevitable one of these days

Oh! Oh, yes!! grin

Alea Sun 28-Feb-16 15:49:30

wot -I was answering synonymous who wanted to know how to do this. . smile

I nearly ordered some of the White Hot shampoo but I'm glad I didn't because it's £12 and the conditioner is £12! The last thing I want is a blue tinge to my white/yellow hair. I'm wondering if the Provoke shampoo would be okay?
I've made a note of the BBC programme.

Another vote for the Provoke Touch of Silver from me. Tesco stocks it too

Alea....eh?????!!

There is going to be a programme about this on Radio 4, Friday 11am.

Synonymous Sun 28-Feb-16 13:17:50

Thank you Alea I will try that. smile

Going back to my original post I would reiterate that hairdressers, particularly those who work for themselves, are businesswomen. The reason some are busier than others is that they are good at what they do - in all respects. And good for them too!

I have to admit that I am very fortunate to have a good head of hair which has gone a really nice colour and it has a bouncy curl so that I just pretty much wash and go. I have never used chemicals on it and use a very gentle shampoo which my hair seems to thrive on.
(The Chancellor of the Exchequer) DH has always been very grateful for the saving! smile

How do you do that strike through thing? I have tried doing what it says but am clearly doing something not quite right. confused

Alea Sun 28-Feb-16 11:22:50

Not advertising - Provoke Touch of Silver shampoo and conditioner. Cheap as chips which is a nice bonus!

Dianic Sun 28-Feb-16 11:12:28

I've been salt n pepper grey/ash blonde for years and have often used highlights, which does take years off me! I'd love to be a silver fox though, so I'm thinking of trying a semi-permanent shade as close to white as possible.

I didn't know about the shampoo for silver hair - can anyone tell me what it's called?

Alea Sun 28-Feb-16 10:41:25

Forgive my cynicism, but anybody would think that white/silver/grey hair was the only "sign of ageing" hmm
Did Kelly Osborne look ready for her bus pass when she went silver? What about Jamie Lee Curtis? Judi Dench? Julie Walters? Compare and contrast with Paul McCartney!!! And platinum is barely a shade removed from white blonde or silver!
So I'm biased in agreement with thatbags(21/2) and others. Dyed hair does not look "younger" unless the face and the figure do too!
<Retreats for cover>, but seriously, how many women look Young great from behind and then they turn round?

Parsleywin Sun 28-Feb-16 10:16:01

Why, thank you BBbevan! blush

Kadeks , grey hair is often coarser than other hair . Try using a serum (any, they are mostly the same) just on the grey it works like a miracle.

I am going to disagree with going grey , I can put up with 6-8 weekly visits to the hairdresser but not looking older . Some people look great but I just didn`t .

Pittcity Sun 28-Feb-16 09:17:11

I am seeking a good shampoo and conditioner for my half grown out salt and pepper.
Is it worth splashing out or is the Provoke Touch of Silver just as good?
