What perfume do you wear?

Lynnekovan1969, am intrigued by a ban on perfume in public places - how are you supposed to get from one private place to another if you're wearing perfume?

To answer the original question, my "signature scent" for years was Gio but it's been discontinued. Parfum Sacre by Caron is another good one but I'm experimenting now.

My favourite is Kenzo Jungle Elephant. Keep trying others for a change but always go back to this one. People always say it smells really nice when I wear it and the fragrance doesn't need topping up. I am 62 and my daughter who is 37 loves it too!

I always come back to Clinique Aromatics Elixir and it invariably gets people asking what I am wearing. My daughter says it is the smell of her mum!

Chanel No 5

Madam Rochas, a lovely old classic which is difficult to get now unfortunately.
Also wear Eden by Cacharel (£15 from Super Drug)

Miss Dior the original. Chanel 5and19. Chloe narcisse for every day.
Also a new find aromatic elixir by Clinique.

Aromatics Elixir for me too. annifrance I also love Arpege. I wish Yardley's Freesia was still available.

Chamade by Guerlain is my all time favourite.

Chanel no 19 - Coco Chanel's 'own' perfume (allegedly)

I have never worn no 5 because of a rather confused story over its origins, which implied that Chanel may not of been the inventor of what is probably the most famous perfume in the world. The alleged true originator was Coty and the perfume they produced was L'Aimant. I wore this as a teenager and they certainly smelt very similar; I saw no reason to pay a fortune for something I already wore in a much cheaper variant

Of course, I am also a complete snob and if every woman and her dog was wearing no 5, I certainly wasn't going to swell their numbers, plus I really do think no 19 is nicer.

I have worn both Youth Dew and Poison (not at the same time ) - they are too heavy for me to use now, but one whiff of either and I am back in my twenties and I think this is the real point of perfume to me - smell is the most evocative sense we possess

My first perfume was Coty L'aimant in a cream version given by a friend's mum after a New Years party when I was 12! Thought I was so grown up! I now wear Prada Amber every day and have worn Femme and Madame Rochas in the past as well as Hermes Caleche. Patchouli during the 60's! My mum always wore Tweed and now still uses the talcum powder.

Aromatique by Clinique. Its very distinctive with just a hint of the patchouli oil I used to wear in the 60s so I feel in touch with my inner hippy!

Dior's J'Adore love it. Used to be Alliage by Este Lauder but I have not found that in years

I used to wear perfume every day: Jo Malone, Coco Chanel were amongst my favourites. Since I moved to Nova Scotia Canada, I have stopped wearing it, as all public places are perfume free zones. I couldn't believe it at first. Why? Well, it seems that many people have allergic reactions to the smell of perfume, and therefore it is generally discouraged.
Oddly enough, when someone is wearing it, I notice it much more now, and don't always enjoy the smell, especially men's cologne.
When I was in an airport lounge a couple of years ago, a woman sat next to me wearing a large dousing of Angel, which made me feel quite sick. The whole area smelled so strong, it was like a form of air pollution. Luckily she didn't sit next to me on the plane, as it would have been a miserable flight.
Funny that.

I always liked Elizabeth Arden's Blue Grass. Does that make me hopelessly old fashioned? Lentheric Tweed was another favourite, but last time I bought some it smelled totally different and very unpleasant.

Cool Water by Davidoff. Affordable, not flowery or sweet or fruity - but fresh. An Italian waiter once recognised it when serving us!

Incidentally can anyone explain the attraction of smelling like fruit salad? I find it totally incomprehensible why anyone would want to smell of pineapple/strawberry/melon etc; yet many, many products, especially shower/bath related, have a fruity name!!

Started with channel no 5 given to me by a patient when I was a student nurse. Later I wore Miss Dior when I could afford to buy me own, then in the 80's changed to Dune and have done so ever since

Fig by Marc Jacobs or good old Tweed for daytime. Ysatis by Givenchy or Jungle by Kenzo for evening. My husband bought me the latter and he loves it but I find if I spray too vigorously it's a bit overpowering.

My favourite is Elysium by Clarins. Sadly discontinued about 15 years ago.
I managed to get one bottle from a little chemist in Ireland and my daughter bought one for me from America. Both of those sources have now dried up. I still have a little left, kept in its box in the fridge. I've tried many times to find a replacement but they're all too strong, too heavy, too sweet or smell synthetic. Elysium was light and floral but with lasting power.
I'll go and sniff a few of the suggestions given here. You never know!

I like Red Roses by Jo Malone and Chance by Chanel. ClaraB's piece about perfume testing made me laugh. When I was a primary teacher a child bought me in a Christmas present and it was a very dusty bottle of half empty Poison. Kept us in hysterics in the staff room for a while.

Snap Marelli. All time favourite which I have worn since I was 20 is the 1920s original, Lanvin's Arpege. Just love it.

Also like Van Cleef and Arpels First, YSL Opium, Balenciaga Le Dix, Miss Balmain, Issy Mikaye, and Diorissimo.

What happened to Dolce and Gabbana Red, it was lovely, you can't seem to get it now.

I wear Avon Far Away for work, I'm going to try some of this Lidl perfume, seems quite popular
