Big Shoes

I haven't been shopping for dress shoes for years, always wear trainers.
having started dancing, I needed some dance shoes. Dreaded shoe shopping, I take size 12/13 and the choice has been very limited. I have a very high and wide foot, plus I need to were custom orthotics, so I need a spacious shoe.
Was I surprised, my , very first stop, Branto, had up to size 14 !. Only one that I found reasonably comfortable with a smooth sole, but a good start.
Though I'd look in Matalan next door . just in case, what a suprise, found several pairs that suited fine, and only £15. Ok they may not last long or be supremely comfortable for prolonged wear, but for our 1 hour dance class, given that my last pair of trainers were £100+, a bargain. Ok I might have to put some suede soles on, but, I could not find dance shoes anywhere in my size.
Pointed toes !!! the last time I wore pointed toe shoes was in the 60's.

Things are looking up for big men.

Boys/men have much bigger feet these days ( and are taller) so your size presents no problem at all.My DH always used to be a size 9 but has found with age that he needs a 10 now, it seems our feet can 'spread' as we age!
Enjoy yourself, twinkle toes, with a soft shoe shuffle.

And you know what they say about big feet, Pompa, yes, big socks.

Pompa Hotter do up to a size 12 for men but their shoes, although well made are not cheap. At least you can look on line and see if you fancy any of them but be warned, the minute they receive your name and address you get their booklets through the post too frequently.

Alea - what can you mean? grin

Pompa - are you blushing?

pompa Sun 13-Mar-16 18:45:15

Many shoe shops have large sizes online, but do not stock them instore, I would never consider buying shoes without being able to try them. (we have a Hotter shop locally, they do not stock large sizes)

As said, my feet have got bigger with age (and possibly due to my tumour) was size 11 in my 20/30 s

Blushing, why should I blush at wearing large socks ?

Pompa, when I first read your post I thought 'My God thats some size of woman' ! Then realized my mistake!'!!!

I've got big wide feet for my height size 6-6.5. For some reason shoes are very expensive in France, and french women tend to have small feet - sizes only go up to the equivalent of 5.5-6. So I have to wait for my visit "home" to buy them.
I've bought 2 lots online but sorry to say can't wear them, as Pompa says, shoes need to be tried on first.
At the moment I'm wearing some soft shoes with strong soles, a present from friends in the USA where big feet are more common.
Pompa have you read the Damon Runyon story about the man with such big feet that when dancing with a partner she stands on his shoes all the time?

Or this Fats Waller song:

That's it rosesarered - I didn't realise a lot of people can't get youtube.

DH has size 10 feet. His feet don't look large . He is over 6 ' so he'd fall over if his feet were any smaller.

pompa Mon 14-Mar-16 23:49:15

Size 10! that's miniscule, I'd love to be a 10.

pompa I hope you enjoy your dancing, DH and I always say that dancing is the best thing for exercising your smiles. You will need to ensure that you have slidey soles to your shoes or your ankles may be at risk.

My nephew had size 14 feet whilst still at school and his mother found it a nightmare to buy shoes for him. He is now a tall man and his feet now look in perfect proportion to the rest of him much to his mother's relief. grin

The best thing for smiles is an 'ukulele, come home from our Monday evening jam with my sides aching.
