Volumiser for thinning fine hair -??

I have grey hair (shock, horror) and have tried all sorts of shampoo. At the moment I am using Dumb Blonde in the Tigi Bed Head range. I got it from my hairdresser and it cost about £18, which is a lot but it is in a very big pot and lasts a long time. My hair is definitely thinner on the top these days (I am 72) but with a good cut I feel this is minimised. I have used this shampoo for a couple of months and it doesn't seem to build up dullness as others have neither does it flatten my hair but leaves it shiny.

I use an amazing range of products from Phylia De M, at Victoria Health.
Again, the range is pricey, but to me, totally worth it. If you can't afford the whole range, then try the Connect Spray, which you spray onto the scalp after shampooing. It's made a big difference to me.

Post-menopause my hair has thinned so much I'm embarrassed, unfortunately I've a very sensitive scalp and seem to be allergic to all of the volumising products I've tried, feeling itchy and sore within hours. any ideas?

I used to ' swear ' by Liz Earle products until I heard that they had been bought out by Avon.

I have very very very fine hair and have had perms most of my life because of it (OMG I hear you say!!!). However, my hair is not now permed and I have found that TGel shampoo is the best I have used. Sometimes I can get a bit of static and look like I have had an electric shock so I just rub my hair with conditioner sheets and it does the trick. By hair is soft, shiny and manageable and I don't have to put any volumiser spray on it - just a touch of hairspray and I am away. Thank God for TGel

Have just started using Fat Hair. Sold at Superdrug and all half price at the moment. Love the hairspray, really gives some 'oomph' to my fine hair

I have some Dove anti aging hair care stuff, it's really quite good, can t recommend the BB for hair enough

I have fine hair and have tried many products to give it some volume; it looks ok immediately after styling but within an hour the flat, limp and fluffy look returned. I recently started using 'Aussie' shampoo; bought the volume one and the conditioner, they seem to be on offer most of the time for about eight pounds for two bottles. I used the conditioner once, but the shampoo is so good that I haven't needed it since.

I now have different hair; it is a lot calmer but has volume and holds its shape all day. You need very little to work up a good lather. I am thrilled with it and wish I had started using it years ago as I would never have believed that a shampoo could make so much difference.

I found very little difference when I have used products supposed to thicken hair and most were very reputable brands. I've now decided to keep it simple and go for the most natural products with the fewest additives. So Liz Earle it is. At first I didn't like it as there are no chemicals to give a shine, but my hair is getting used to it and I swear it is thicker.

When I was younger I had very long hair, and got into the habit of using a conditioner to help with detangling after shampooing. I have recently stopped using it (( as my hair is now jaw-length) and am amazed at the lift and body my hair now has as a result! I currently use Fat Hair root lift spray on the roots and John Frieda volumising spray on the rest before blowdrying.

£4.50 off is a flipping good price - it was about £10 the last time I bought it. I live in terror of it being discontinued!

My hairdresser uses a volumising gel on my fine hair. It's called Thicken and is, I think, made by Clynol. Don't think it's available in shops but easy enough to find on line.

My Mum's hairdresser recommended she use the Nioxin range. It's not cheap, but it's made an amazing difference to her hair. Her mother had the same problem when she got older and I wish she could have used something like Nioxin. She was very conscious of her pink scalp, especially at her golden wedding anniversary party.

I'd not heard of the bedhead product so had a google. Amazon have it on offer at the moment with a saving of £4.50 if anyone is interested.

Grannyknot Aveda products are very good and I have used the root booster - not much success for me and as you say lots of ££££'s -

I have also used Aussie shampoo and conditioner kitty but will look at Small Talk by Bedhead as that is a new to me product. Many thanks.

I remember reading about a Philip Kingsley product some time ago - - anyone got any info on that or any Kerastase product - also lots of ££'s I know but if it works and lasts a long time i would try them if recommended by the wise and thrifty GN users.

My hair has gone very thin and fine and after some experimenting I use Johnson's Baby Cream (not the lotion.) It works well for me providing volume without stickiness and keeps my scalp moisturized.

I think with thin, fine hair it's a case of finding what works for you.

I've got really fine hair and highlights. I use Aussie volume shampoo and the conditioner very occasionally. I then use some thing called Small Talk made by Bedhead. It's quite expensive but lasts ages. I buy it from hairdressers or on line.

My daughter's hair is fine and she uses Aveda thickening tonic. It's not cheap but the bottle lasts for ages.

I have highlights too btw, they seem fine.

The longer you can leave hair to dry before styling also helps, just towel it off
have a comb through, then spray and style with a hairdryer and barrel type brush getting some volume at the roots. Good luck.?

I suppose I have always used conditioner as I have highlights - and felt I should nourish the hair after colouring. I will try washing only and see if there is a difference -- thanks rosesared

Do you really need conditioner?It weighs down hair, and makes it flat.My hair ( fine also) looks much better without, and adding oil as well as conditioner....! just use a shamppo for volume and nothing else, dry it off for a bit then spray a volumusing styling spray and dry and style the hair.
