Thank you everyone for your recommendations..... Cedar Halls looks the favourite, also being the nearest............I will let you know in due course, am planning on a visit early June for my birthday

Have a look at The Scarlet in Cornwall, my boss had 3 day break there recently and loved it. Posting this from my Hudl, and haven't worked out how to do links from it.

Yes, Woodbury Park has a good golf course but we were members of the leisure club only. Lovely pool. Food is nice too. You would need a car to nip into Exeter and to go to the beach.

Ah well, DD worked in a couple of places like that when she was a student and also was lucky enough to work as a journalist reporting on lovely places to visit - of course she had to experience all the facilities to be able to write her pieces! (not here, overseas, no help to the OP sorry)

I'm not sure about Woodbury Park - is that more of a golfing place? DD worked there a couple of times when she was at university nearby. I think it belonged to Nigel Mansell then but he sold it I believe.

Hi caz - I don't have a huge amount of experience, but once went to this place for a manicure and lunch with a friend after being given a voucher from my daughter: www.cedarfalls.co.uk/cedarfalls/special-offers/. It really was a pampering experience and it's set in lovely countryside.
The other place is this one: www.boveycastle.com/hotel/. My daughter took me for a one day totally extravagant treat and I truly experienced what it must be like to have serious money. We were treated like royalty (helped perhaps by the fact that my daughter visited often enough to be known to the staff) and had an amazing day. But, oh dear me, if I had been paying the bill I would have needed to lie down in a darkened room to deal with the shock.
