Bikini Waxing

So, I hate having a bikini wax. I tell myself it's the beautician's job and she's probably done it hundreds of times but I still find it embarrassing. It's only the thought of showing hair poking out of a swimsuit that gets me to a beauticians. What do other gransnetters do?

I have the same problem but found M&S Midi are perfect and dont creep in places you don't want them to creep. I don't like big knickers as my daughter would say so these are perfect.

For those who have suffered a razor rash when shaving themselves.... I bet you used a wet razor which is very quick to use. i did this once and was really uncomfortable.

I now use a battery ladies razor and there is no rash. Really easy to use but takes a little longer than a wet razor. And no discomfort with regrowth.

Just trim as low as possible first with scissors - being very careful to nip yourself.

Would be afraid to use a removal cream/chemicals.

Another one here wanting to thank Mygrannycanfly think I'll still stick to my snipping short and good leg swimsuit but good toknow. I'm like Mumsyface so just do the bare minimum with great reluctance.

Mygrannycanfly, thank you so much for that smile
I may even try one now.

Just get it done before holidays. The beauticians are trained to do it so doesn't really bother me. Agree with you SusanCh - why oh why can the leg hair not grow grey! I am however getting less hair now on lower legs but not enough less to not wax or shave wink

Well said, Mumsyface.

I have a very popular beauty salon. I started waxing "down there" for clients a few years ago, really because DD had a bad waxing experience and I figured I could to a better job myself! My regulars are very attached to me - they say nice things like "I couldn't imagine anyone else doing my bikini now" and I have rave online reviews.

What I'd like you to know -
A bikini (inner thigh and high leg knicker line area) wax is the same as an armpit from a therapist perspective - wear stretchy comfy pants which can be yanked sideways a bit (or your bikini) and you're sorted.

Expect to lie on your side, faced away from your therapist with one knee bent for "round the back" nether regions. Pull your knickers in a bit so your therapist can see without foraging.

Dry skin doesn't like being waxed, and the area is prone to dryness, so moisturise diligently after every shower for a few days and on the day of your wax. It saves the wax sticking you as grippily as a plaster.

Regular waxing makes the hair disappear - like over plucked eyebrows

An experienced therapist makes the experience much less uncomfortable and embarrassing than you might imagine AND successive waxes are increasingly less painful as the skin and nerve endings adjust and the hair regrows finer and less sparse.

A good waxing therapist is hard to find, Google is your friend.

Hardly anyone goes for a Brazilian or Hollywood over the age of 45. It's a generation thing. However if you've built up a regular waxing relationship with the same therapist I'd recommend asking for a "almost Brazilian" clearing most of the labia hair. Most women much prefer it after they've tried it which is worth a thought.

Find myself disinclined to worry about other people eyeballing my bikini line.

German women don't seem to have a problem with having body hair, so why do we? Hair on my head? Yes please. Anywhere else? No thanks. Why, why, why?

My beautician waxes my legs and important places before every holiday. We chat away and I am not in the least embarrassed.

She is a professional,I pay for her services. It's just another thing like smear tests and mammograms that have to endured.

I was quite old before I found out that other peoples hair did not just cover their pubes but went diwn their onside leg too. I am lucky not to be very hairy so no problems wearing a bikini. Just had my third treatment with a new laser on my lower legs so doubt if they will need to be waxed again.

Victoria08 Fri 06-May-16 19:02:30

I seem to have more hair down there than ever before.

Long time since I attended to it, as haven't been swimming for a while, otherwise I leave it.

If need be, I will probably shave.

Pluck the b*****s out - makes my eyes water but as I usually suffer from very dry eyes, that's an added bonus )))

SusanCh Fri 06-May-16 14:14:45

Full leg and bikini wax. I have it done all year long, every six weeks. I'm not really vain, but struggle to understand why the hair on my head is totally grey, but the hair on my legs has remained as dark as it ever was. It doesn't need to grow very much before my legs are unsightly. I've now been waxed so many times that I don't even feel it.

Teetime plait?shock grin

I guess I'm just a hussy! When I got divorced and met a new guy 8 years ago, I had a Brazillian (thin landing strip) for a while. Soon after, I went for a Hollywood (every hair gone). ?

Cagsy Fri 06-May-16 12:11:35

Never, ever - I'd die of embarrassment! I've never thought it a big issue, just keep generally trimmed with scissors. As I've got older (mid 60s now) there seems to be less hair so shave under arms and legs about twice a year - fortunately the hair on my head is staying put.
I so feel for your friend Liz 46, I bet she'll never do it againblush

Gardenman99 Fri 06-May-16 12:05:23

My wife sprays on Veet leaves it on for ten minute shower off smooth as can be.

Cosafina Fri 06-May-16 12:00:50

I have it waxed by my beautician - but only in Spain as I find the way she does it is infinitely less painful than the way they do it over here in the UK. She still has to warn any people in the waiting room that I'm OK though!

I LOVE having my legs waxed - makes them feel alive, gets all the dead skin off, and leaves them feeling silky smooth for ages.

Witzend Fri 06-May-16 11:48:29

I just use Veet or Immac or whatever. Never had a problem with it. Couldn't bear the thought of waxing - quite aside from any embarrassment it's bloody painful.

bobbydog24 Fri 06-May-16 11:43:14

I used to use cream but once left it on longer than should have and was in agony for hours. Razor for me now. Is it just me or as I get older I find I am continually adjusting my underwear. My GD says sometimes my bums eating my nickers and that's just how I feel. Have tried various types but none give me comfort.

TizzMee Fri 06-May-16 11:35:32

I use Veet cream. Brilliant stuff. I once tried shaving down there and came up in shaver's rash. Aaagh. Hair would've looked better.

nanasam Fri 06-May-16 11:16:09

I'm going bald anyway, so I just tuck what's there into a fold of skin! grin

Sunlover Fri 06-May-16 11:03:46

When I was younger I regularly had waxing. Never had the courage to go the whole hog and have the lot off!! Nowadays I find I have much less hair to deal with so manage myself with a razor or creams.

thatbags Fri 06-May-16 09:07:36

What farnorth suggested is an alternative. Or wear shorts over your swimsuit except when you're actually swimming.
