Rather tempted to do something radical!

I've used the LIVE products this last six months so have gone bright red and purple. I love them. If we can't do it now, then when can we? Go and buy one and put some music on doing it and enjoy! Have fun phoenix, you deserve it after giving up smoking and doing to well.

Henna...it looks lovely, is cheap and easy, smells lovely, gives a beautiful shine...I have been henna-ing for years!

I actually had mine done at the hairdresser. Went semi permanent at first. Just in case! Loved is so now have permanent highlights of cadbury purple through my blonde/grey hair. Absolotely love it. Have a block colour of purple on the underlayer and then its highlighted through the layers with fine highlights through my fringe. Go for it x

Phoenix if that's what you'd like to do, then just do it! Maybe get it done professionally first time, and semi-permanent, just in case you don't like it. But if you'd really like to try it, try it. You will probably feel great. Hopefully you will share a pic with us - dark glasses or mask if you want to stay anonymous, just as long as we can see the hair.

Go for it phoenix. I went red a few years ago-varied between orangey and darker red and I loved it. It seemed to me that all my dark haired friends were turning blonde and I thought I should be able to change from blonde if I wanted. I did think about pink, but I bought one of those temporary sprays and put in some streaks,and it really didn't suit. I've gone back to blonde (some said they like it better-but what do they know?), but your post has made me think about colour again!!

Been every colour under the sun when I was younger, but totally content with the grey now. It's so naturally curly anyway that I think it looks good. Costs me around £70 per year for cutting and that's quite enough in my book.

Vonp, that sounds gorgeous. I do my own (am poor) and lack the precision skills to paint different layers, but I've seen a few people with their hair coloured this way. It's fab - when you move, the different shades seem to shimmer

The fact you want to do it says to me you can carry it off, so go for it.

I think these very colourful colours look freaky. Perhaps the young can get away with it, we all did silly things then. But why would you want to look garish just for the hell of it later in life? Why not settle for a really good cut, perhaps learn how to blow dry it well, or have a modern looking perm? Go for elegant rather than the chasing lost youth look.

Lucy was that an accident? We always used to dread coming out of the hairdressers with green hair due to some inexperienced youngster getting it wrong.

Black women are often very adventurous with hair colours and styles - one middle-aged lady I see locally wears a sticking up punk-style wig in electric blue! The rest of her appearance is entirely conventional.

Might look good against her dark skin, but I think it would look terrible on a white woman. Unless she really wanted the goth look!

I am about 90% grey at 65 & have decided to stop dyeing it -i love the silver fox look although it is easily as high maintenance but I just don't think dyed hair on much older women looks convincing or fashionable any more

As for fashionable - what does that mean when you're over sixty? Nobody's going to view me as a fashion icon these days. They can admire me for having a personal style, though, if they like

I'm happier with an obviously false colour than one that I hope looks natural and then I find it doesn't.

I used a pot of cheap hair chalk and my scalp has come out is sores, I long to dye my hair again, I have about 2 inches of grey and 10 inches of dirty looking orangey blonde sue to putting colour after colour. I just tie it back and hope nobody sees me.

I'm allergic to all hair dyes and I feel so jealous of anyone who can colour their hair without breaking out in running sores and facial swellings. If I could return to my pre-allergy days I would love to be auburn. Instead, I have to be content with being mouse with a hint of grey.

Because Jing when I've just seen my dad's life slip away, it made me want to take the bull by the horns and throw caution to the wind, purple hair and all! I'm not chasing youth, they can keep it willingly, I just want to be me and feel free to do whatever I want as long as I hurt no one.

I can't think of anything worse than having a good cut, blow dried into a certain style and the same colour I have always been. It's my time now, to cast all chains off and enjoy myself, while I can.

I hope you didn't think I was getting at you personally Rubylady! I haven't read all the individual posts on this thread. I was saying what I think about older people with odd brightly coloured hair.

No, it's all good jing we get on fine. I like your directness. Just each to their own I suppose. A bit of fun at whatever age doesn't hurt.

Oooh, think I would like a change too, lifes too short to be the same colour. If all goes wrong wear a hat, I like hats!

I'm at the other end of the spectrum ... 72 and only a miniscule amount of grey hairs in an otherwise head of dark brown,or frquently mistaken for black, hair. And I hate it ..... with a passion!. I would love to experiment with outrageous colours, maybe not a whole job, but some artistically placed streaks. But I know from past experience ( in the 60s) that any attempt to first of all to remove the natural pigment took hours, and resulted in an unattractive shade of orange.
I want to be outrageous. ... in fact I'd even settle for all over white. At least it might stop people asking me a) how long I've been dying my hair and b) what do I use.
