Wrap dresses

I've recently decided that a wrap style dress might suit me. This happened because it has been so warm here of late that I dug an old silk dressing gown, that hasn't seen the light for several years, out of a trunk because my usual one was too warm and heavy. With a belt to cinch in the waist, which though bigger than it used to be is still there a bit, I thought the style suited me.

I've never had a wrap dress. I started looking in various places but they mostly seem to have tight, clingy skirts which I don't like.

Any ideas where I could carry on looking?

Asos is good if you know what you want, but can't find it on the high street. Generally quite reasonable too.

You could make one, thatbags You could alter the front of a pattern from one piece to two. Not difficult, with your mathematical and sewing abilities it would be a cinch.

When I was young I had one like that in black taffeta.

I'm a big fan of the wrap dress but not the G von F ones- too expensive. I like to make sure they are 'stitched in ' ones as I cant bear all the unwrapping in public (well once upon a time but no longer - moving on!)So I have several wrap dresses from Boden (lovely look for discounts) lots of colours and sleeves in three lengths- these wash and wear no ironing (bought 2 summer ones this week £35 each with discount). They have a gently flared skirt. I have Monsoon ones- similar to above but not so many to choose from and I used to get East ones but they seem to have disappeared. JL sometimes have their own and Jigsaw but pricier as do Hobbs- OK if for an occasion.

Wrap dresses are very flattering, if you find the right one, it's a few years since I bought one though ( East) although my local East has closed down now.
Just as an aside, I bought a lovely all cotton dress from Debenhams last week, struggled a bit getting it on ( over my head) and then took it off, thinking why oh why do they not put a zip in the side, then looked at it closely, and saw that there was a zip! should have gone to Spec Savers.

I always avoid dresses with side zips as my frozen shoulder stops me being able to unzip them (Can zip them up and then I'm trapped!)

I always like the idea of wrap dresses, but they seem to look very middle aged when I try them on. At my age I should be glad to only look middle aged - but I'm not hmm

Actually, I love this one

Wouldn't look right with my fitflops though.

Sooo pretty.

And I so shouldn't be linking to it.

Oh, I like them! Though I can see where you're coming from - my mam would have called them wrap round pinnies. I have a nice wrap dress from M & S and it's very flattering. I bought it in the sale at least 10 years ago. A snakeskin print - it's been in and out of fashion so many times (and I've no idea which it is at the moment).

I see the leopardskin print's in the half price sale, so it's probably out.
