Duffle Coat

I want to buy a light, but warm three quarter coat with a hood for this Autumn/Winter and when I Googled it a number of duffle coats came up. I haven't worn a duffle coat since the 1960s and wonder how successful it would be to get one now that I am almost 70.

Anyone else bought one or could recommend one ?

I have just seen a lovely lilac one from a company called Marisota but their sizing won't suit. I want a 14/16 and they do a 16/18 which will be too big.

But you need to be able to put a woolly pully under it. That's what duffel coats are all about.

I would like this one Expensive, but if you're going to do it, do it properly.

I have two duffle coats which I love.Like you I wore them during the 60s.
I find them warm and practical.
Before I retired as a teacher, and when I did playground duty, the toggles on the coat were invaluable. The children loved to undo them and do them up and would talk about all sorts while so engaged. I learnt a lot about them , their home life, friends etc.

My duffle so are both navy blue but you can get lots of other lovely colours now

I so agree with Jingle's remark about enough room for a jumper under a coat - I like raglan sleeves as so comfortable even with a jumper underneath. The prices are high but with lots of things you do get what you pay for. I also think that if you are not buying this sort of thing every year you do not notice the prices going up so get a shock when you look.

M&S had some good ones last year, navy, dark red, bright red and I think a plummy colour. I bought the navy one which is warm and practical, but not exactly "smart" so it depends what you want it for.

I always wanted a duffle coat as a child, but my mother would never let me have one. I think I'm probably the wrong shape now.

Yes love duffles and I also have a parka great for winter especially on my cycle

Wish you could edit posts I m astounded by the prices on that advert my great duffle was about £50 and my parka less they are both still going strong after a number of years I thought £50 was pushing it

Thanks all for your suggestions. I will check out M and S when I am on a day out in Stratford this week. I would pay up to £80/90 but no more.

I'm glad the duffle coat is still going strong.

Thought the idea of a duffle coat sounded great. Googled M&S site, and all the links I clicked on, had the message, " Sorry no longer available" , or words to that effect. Has Nan Kate cornered the market? Back to my trusty Parker type M&S Per Una coat, nice, but boring being black. By the way I do have a beautiful long red 'Planet', wool coat, that is my (shh!)C*******s coat. Always looks good , and bought in a Charity shop a few years ago.

I bought this duffle-style raincoat last winter for the school run. It is completely waterproof and brightens up a dull, grey morning.

I love that one, anya. Perfect school run coat. I wish I'd spotted it back then bit late now.

J D Williams have duffle coats in 3/4 and full length lots of colours and sizes are separate as in 14, 16, etc.

ninathenana Sat 10-Sept-16 13:03:47

jings they're eye watering.
The J D W. ones are £69

But would they be warm? I don't remember JD Williams ever being the best quality. Used to get things from there when I was a teenager. Amazed they are still going.
