Grey hair turning bluish green!

Am 59 and embracing the grey in my normally light brown hair. HOWEVER, for the last few months the grey has taken on a bluish green tinge (root to tip). My hairdresser thought it was the use of Aveda blue malva shampoo & conditioner (designed specifically for grey hair) so I discontinued that - but no improvement. She now thinks that there may be excessive copper in our water supply. Water authority says their supply is regularly checked so it must be internal pipe work in our 30 year old house. Short of the unwanted expense of a plumber, what can I do (and I don't want to have to use bottled water - last resort!). Advice appreciated!!

I think you may be able to have your water tested, could you ask your water authority? you might have to pay though.

Thanks for the reply - they will test the water coming into the house for free but not the internal pipework...

Maybe you could pay for a private test inside the house.

You can buy a testing kit here...

If it is the water causing this, there must be others around with grey hair who have also been affected.

Thanks for the test kit link & yes, asked neighbours (none of the others have allowed their hair to go grey but younger - blonde- neighbour hasn't noticed anything. However, we're in a semi- rural location, and our houses aren't adjacent, so may still get mains supply tested in first instance.

Do you use a hair spray - I found that the one I was using turned my hair a very peculiar colour, so changed and everything seems fine now.

GrAnne...my grand-daughter who was 14 at the time had a similar problem with her hair after moving , with her family, to a very rural location with a private water supply.
It was excessive copper in the water supply. Luckily they were only there for a short time (property was rented) and they moved to their own home.
Definately worth testing for same. Although everyone was using same water she was the only one affected!

Thanks again all! Interesting from spyder08 - am def going to get the supply checked.
