In my paper today, I saw a picture of a young woman, aged 22, proudly going bra less to show her nipple piercings on her drooping breasts. How can this be classed as attractive, I dislike piercing and tattooes anyway, they turn my stomach, but surely this can't be safe.

albertina - I am confused too!!

I had my ears pierced in the days of hoop earrings when you had to keep them in for at least 6 weeks, turn them regualarly and treat them with TCP.

I did as I was told, then one day before the 6 weeks were up my left earlobe swelled up to the size of a tomato. It meant having it done again when things settled down.

I don't like tattoos, but would have to admit that my son in law's tattoo of my Granddaughter on his arm is rather lovely.

As for getting any personal bits pierced.... no thanks !

I hate to admit my ignorance, but how would a penis piercing would work for a man ?

Yuk to the original post. Nipple piercing, awful. Sometimes I think people do this to allegedly show their individuality but really I think it is to get attention, any attention. Looks just plain awful. Maybe something they will regret as they get older. I have my ears pierced though and I can wear lots of different ear-rings that look great. Each to their own.

I fell in love with a pair of ruby & diamond earrings in a local jewellers in my late 20s, in the end I had mine pierced by another local jeweller (I worked with him & his wife ran their shop, she did the piercings) So I bought my earrings & still wear them on special occasions. I do wear studs most of the time & don't feel dressed up without them

I can't bear eye brow piercings, tongue ones or lips. As for the elongated ear lobes with the large stone??? YUK.

My DD & her OH both have several tattoos, all very tasteful (not that I would ever have any)grin

I think this is quite classy

I had my ears pierced as soon as I left school at 16. I have never regretted it and wear earrings every day. It always used to be hoops but I am into pearl studs at the moment. No other piercings or tattoos though for me!

Had my ears pierced in my mid 30s as I'd always loved earrings but those with clips ended up being taken off half-way through the day as they were uncomfortable. Now at the ripe old age of 80 I very seldom go out without earrings on.

eebeew Thu 02-Feb-17 18:56:41

When I retired I took up silver jewellery making and I got my ears pierced so that i could wear the earrings I make! I was 69!

threexnanny Thu 02-Feb-17 18:56:29

I was sitting in a cafe watching a bridal party coming out of the church opposite. There were five or six adult bridesmaids in pretty strapless dress, but two had tattoos across their backs and down their arms !!!

radicalnan Thu 02-Feb-17 18:31:30

A young friend ended up with septicemia having had a belly bar piercing..........and from a proper, decent place too.

My grand daughters have tattoos and piercings which on beautiful young girls just looks horrid.........IMHO.

seacliff Thu 02-Feb-17 17:16:27

I had my ears pierced in my mid 30s but about 10 years ago an earring caught in my scarf and I pulled the earring and ripped my ear badly.

Both holes have now closed up, I would like to have them done again, as even at my age I think pretty earrings don't look too bad.

Which is the best most painless method, anyone recommend best place to go?

The thing I hate to see is those enormous holes some people have in their lobes, so horrible to look at.

Neversaydie Thu 02-Feb-17 17:07:47

Pierced ears only here The person who did them said I'd got the tiniest earlobes of any adult she'd ever done ..Which is why I had it done as clip- on earrings just wouldnt stay on
I wouldn't mind a a tiny tattoo in a discrete place though But DH hates the idea

My DGD2 (aged 9) always says that "when she is big she will have her nose pierced and dye her (beautiful golden blonde) hair blue and pink. shock

She is very bright, way ahead of her class mates academically but from being tiny she has struck me as a non conformist type. She wears whatever she likes (think, stripey tights, luminous doc martins and a tu-tu) which upsets her older sister who is a dedicated follower of fashion.

I did a life drawing class and the model was a very pretty, slim young girl. However she had piercings in her nipple and labia. Must have been so painful having it done. Can't understand why.

gillyjp Thu 02-Feb-17 15:53:20

I only have my ears pierced. One hole in each ear and I can't remember when I had it done now but possibly in my late teens. However, I've always fancied a belly button piercing - I don't know why but I know ideally you have to be under 25, ultra slim and have a flat tummy for them to look good. However I've always had a hankering to have one done so that I can have a sparkly diamond there. They look lovely on slim young things IMHO.

My granddaughter aged 7 has just started pestering her Mum for pierced ears and of course my DD is not keen and put her on the phone to me to try and talk her out of it. Fat good that did as I cannot be a hypocrite since I got my DD's ears pierced when she was 4 years old. It was at a jewellers and I distinctly remember we had to chase her round the store once she'd had one done to get the other one pierced. Oh the guilt! Still she's worn them ever since. So we've reached a compromise over GD's ear piercing - will her Granddad came up with the suggestion that if she still wants them done - have them done in the school summer holidays when Mum can make sure they are cleaned and checked over every day and she has 6 weeks to get used to them. In the meantime Ive given her a pair of sparkly clip-ons that I had and she can wear those around the house.

Oh yes, I'd forgotten that. My mother, said she had had her ears pierced, around 1920, to improve her eyesight...it didn't work!
She did her best to persuade me to have mine done as a teenager, but I hated the idea.
Then I had the opposite battle with my teenage daughters as they begged to be allowed pierced ears while I held out, a shorter time with each one.
Is this something that skips generations?

Diddy1 Thu 02-Feb-17 15:45:59

Never pierced, dont like these things in noses, always reminds me of a bull in a field, NOT attractive.
Felt sorry for my Grandson, who is fourteen, he had asked for one ear to be pierced, for Christmas, he got a very nice "earring" from his parents, it was very discreet, he came home one day, really upset having been told at School that "only Gay people have earrings", he took it out next day, Mum and Dads money down the drain!

janetta46 Thu 02-Feb-17 15:35:21

When my DSS were young I told them that I didn't mind what they did to themselves as long as they didn't get a tattoo. We had multiple ear piercings and tongue piercings (yuk) and eyebrow piercings and hair dying and head shaving, but they never did get tattooed, for which I am extremely grateful (and not a little surprised)

annodomini Thu 02-Feb-17 15:10:51

I was 27,almost 50 years ago, when my sister, a junior doctor in A&E, knowing I wanted to have my ears pierced, rang up and said it was a quiet afternoon, so she could do my ears right away. She used a hypodermic and it didn't hurt at all. I really wanted to wear pretty earrings as her bridesmaid the following month. I still have those holes and a vast collection of earrings. I don't feel dressed without them.

Nannyanny Thu 02-Feb-17 14:59:01

My brother pierced my ears when I was 17 (sigh) with a darning needle and an ice cube, very cost effective. I jumped at the second ear and was lopsided for awhile til they healed. It was a talking point until I had them straightened out a few months later in a jewellers. The things we do.

Belleringer Thu 02-Feb-17 14:56:16

Just pierced ears for me. But I did try to wind up my daughters by telling them that I was having my navel pierced for my 60th birthday. I expected them to throw up their hands in horror and say I was much too old, but no, they offered to come with me! (I didn't do it!)

Yorkshiregel Thu 02-Feb-17 14:54:59

My Mother always considered ear piercings common. I wonder what she would have thought of my son's X-girlfriend who had her naval pierced. It got infected and she had a lot of worry about blood poisoning before it finally cleared up. Took ages and it was very sore and weepy. Definitely NOT attractive imo.

Pierced ears can catch on things and then they bleed. I just didn't fancy it myself. Why can't the designers of clip on earings make them delicate and pretty too?

tiredoldwoman Thu 02-Feb-17 14:09:37

I got my ears pierced first when I was 12 then a second set the day I became a Granny .
I quite fancied having my nipples pierced , now that things have sagged I could link them up to my ears for an instant lift !

luluaugust Thu 02-Feb-17 13:30:34

One piercing in each ear thats enough for me.

Cornishgirl777 Thu 02-Feb-17 13:23:04

I have one piercing in each ear,and don't like the thought of any more as I can't see the point. However, when my children were teenagers,I promised I'd only insist on 2 things;no smoking and no drugs. As a consequence,I couldn't say anything about the pierced eyebrows and nose stud, and I also tried to be sympathetic when the piercings got infected. Yuck!
