My knees are very stiff and arthritic; nowadays putting on a pair of tights is extremely difficult. I thought I could switch to holdup stockings but alas it appears that I am allergic to the bands - great weals and blisters have appeared on my thighs. I work in a fairly conservative environment where skirts are the norm for female staff, so I'm rather loathe to switch to trousers. That seems to leave the dreaded suspenders - which I have not worn since about 1971 (thick grey stockings were part of my school uniform). Has anyone any recent experience/advice? Any brands which are actually comfortable - or at least not wholly uncomfortable? Tips for wearing them without advertising the fact? I'm a fairly recent widow - tittilating the men I encounter is definitely NOT my aim.

I think some women who wear them with skirts don't realise how visible the tops are if they bend over for some reason, or when they're walking outside on a breezy day...
