How about wearing popsocks with a longer length skirt?

I'd just go the smart trouser route. Saves whole heap of hassle and just tell anybody who comments that it's easier for your knees.

I work in a fairly conservative environment where skirts are the norm for female staff, so I'm rather loathe to switch to trousers

I can't for one minute imagine what your work environment is - can you give us a bit of a clue.

Your health and comfort should be your first concern, pen50, never mind messing about with suspenders and worrying about other members of staff. Seriously, buy some smart trousers, or even a suit, you'll look just as smart, possibly more so...

Go on, wear the trousers. Even Nurses wear trousers, I know hardly any workplaces that would expect you to wear skirts. If they insist, play the gender equality card.

Indeed go to trousers and accessorise well. You get to waer comfier shoes with trousers.

Do the men in your work place wear kilts ? if not get yourself to M&S and buy some nice tailored trousers.

Just a thought, I think M&S do latex free tights which might prevent your allergic reaction. I hate wearing tights, so when forced too I go for longer skirts or culottes and pop socks. But do agree in this day and age, trousers should be acceptable in any workplace.

I won't get into trouble for wearing trousers! Rather, most of the women do wear skirts, and I'm the second most senior; I would prefer to wear a skirt too. Also, all my workwear is skirts and dresses; it will cost me a fair bit to buy the extra clothes I would need to make the switch.

I work for a religious charity and frequently visit churches, and I'm old enough to feel that wearing trousers in church is not quite right...

I used to be a guide in our local church. I wore jeans and nobody minded. I'm sure a smart pair of trousers is the obvious solution. It needn't cost that much as you can surely still utilise your workwear tops and shoes.

Perhaps just one pair to start with, on the occasional day to see how it works out?

Our female minister wears trousers in church as do lots of the congregation so don't think it would be a problem A pair of tailored black or navy trousers with socks and boots would be much more comfortable than stockings and suspenders !!! Or, as someone suggested , pop socks with a midi skirt, they are all the rage now.

Please, not pop socks unless the skirt reaches to your ankles! I think some women who wear them with skirts don't realise how visible the tops are if they bend over for some reason, or when they're walking outside on a breezy day...
