Challenging stereotypes of older women?

I did see a picture of Diana Moran aka the Green Goddess today and thought she looked stunning aged 77. Not sure about Mrs Winkle though bit of a caricature maybe.
We should enjoy this stage of our lives and dress for ourselves and how we live our lives. Wonder if men are similarly concerned about their style?

Thank you janeainsworth those women (and men) are stunningly dressed. Wish I had the confidence to dress like that. I heard some fashion shows are using women in their 70s as models and thought that was quite inspiring

Sadly, I think there are stereotypes of older people (although not among older people themselves).

When older people feature in the media it is almost always as vulnerable, ill, disabled or demented. There was a tragic accident yesterday when a car driven by a man of 89 killed 2 people. All the press reports headlined his age, with the implication that older people driving are dangerous. I doubt his age would have been headlined if he had been 29, 39 or 49. And people of those ages are responsible for most traffic deaths.

Look at the stereotypical photographs in any government literature or even Age UK. It shows mainly the over 80s who are in need and nothing puts me off retirement flats more than the older people who feature in the adverts for these dwellings, all white haired, white teethed, gurning at a camera, fresh from the beauty salon and achingly elegantly dressed. Yuk!

I like the advanced style people and I too like the idea of removing ages from style. I wish I had some style but have never worked out what I need to achieve it.
I do admire people who wear what looks good on them regardless of the current fashion. It is a skill. I have friends who always look stylish but I can't name anyone famous that I admire. I'll have a think. ?

Jayh I think maybe I should rephrase what I said as I didn't actually mean the pink lipstick. Rather the whole idea of removing age from style. And I was curious about other peoples style idols or just inspirational women who challenge ageist stereotypes.

I have just watched the YouTube video of Ms Winkle where she explains how and why she became an internet sensation. Poor soul, I thought. It's her way of coping with getting old and lonely but she is not really challenging stereotypes. In fact she is becoming one. Mutton dressed as lamb to the nth degree.
I don't know how old you are Andie but I don't think you will find many Baby Boomers, of either sex, conforming to stereotypes of older people. In fact I don't know what the current stereotype might be. Any suggestions? I will ask my gym buddies what they think.

We had an advertising thread about Baddie Winkle about a month ago and I did click it, but decided that acting like a silly teenager on a night out is as boring when the subject is an older person as it is when the subject is a teenager. I judge both by the same standards. Personally, I prefer the women featured on Advanced Style www.advanced.style/

I have never had an idol or individual that inspired me in any walk of life. I might admire something that an individual has done, but my interest will not go past that one admirable action. I respect quite a number of people, including a number I do not like, but that is not quite the same.

So no, not an inspiration at all. I'm not interested in people who are famous for being famous, or become famous for simply being outrageous.
I'm more interested in ideas.
