Helen Mirren (again) on the front of my monthly glossy magazine (bought as a gift from a friend) looking stunning and speaking about her wonderful life. Yes, all styled and probably airbrushed. Why has this put me in a bad mood?

varian oh how I laughed, thank you so much

I prefer magazines about old houses, no silly celebrities. and the owners are quite out in the open about what they have done to make everything look so good.

That made me chuckle MissA same here.

KatyK Sun 01-Apr-18 19:10:21

I have thick bouncy hair. Unfortunately it's not my own as mine all fell out!

..none of it really matters though does it? We are the REAL WOMEN,real lives, everything it throws at us..real faces, that have had....and show ...happiness and sadness,I wouldn't, truthfully want an airbrushed photo or a face pumped full of chemicals my face is ME,it has lines and it's a bit droopy but it's ME,been through it all with me, changed as I've aged,my grandchildren love my face..I'm nearly 66,don't want a plastic looking face..don't want my body looking it's age and my hair &face looking like a head transplant...a smile does the trick anyway,on everyone's face?

sodapop Sun 01-Apr-18 17:46:19

Me too gillybob

gillybob Sun 01-Apr-18 17:17:10

A lot of them wear hair pieces and volume extensions moocow . I would love thick bouncy hair.

Moocow Sun 01-Apr-18 17:14:41

It's the amount of them young and old who go on about body confidence then have hair that seems to increase in bounce and thickness as they get more into tv film etc that and the do my miracle diet ohhh i better stop it gets me so cross - you are certainly not alone katyk

We need to see Helen Mirren on a bad day. On one of my good days I look like Brenda Blethyn as Vera on a bad day (but without the hat).

KatyK Sun 01-Apr-18 16:33:17

I'm sure you have gilly grin

gillybob Sun 01-Apr-18 16:24:40

My beauty must definitely be on the inside cos it sure as hell isn’t on the outside .

Maybe I’ve got beautiful organs ?

KatyK Sun 01-Apr-18 16:17:49

That's the magazine W&H. Well if beauty comes from within, mine is struggling to get out!

gillybob Sun 01-Apr-18 15:30:56

According to this months W&H and yet another Helen Mirren front cover and interview .... “ beauty comes from within”

Well why the surgery and the airbrushing then Ms Mirren ? Because you’re worth it ?

Deedaa Sun 01-Apr-18 15:23:25

In the 70s DH was a minicab driver and drove Lulu a few times. He wasn't very taken with her! On the other hand he adored Olivia Newton John and used to go and get fish and chips for her.

gillybob Sun 01-Apr-18 15:14:54

I like it farview and have gone pretty close myself too ! Bloody mirrors who invented them eh ?

farview Sun 01-Apr-18 14:48:11

I think,as women,we probably all have good days&bad days,On one of my very BAD days I actually told the bathroom mirror to F... Off...then couldn't stop laughing when I realised what I'd just done...grin

I have to admit that I've never tried very hard to look after jy apparance. My figure would not compare favourably with Helen Mirren's (remember her showing off her red bikini?) but she's never had any children.

I once complimented a friend my age on her figure and she pointed out that I'd had children and she hadn't. When I told her how many years it was since I'd had the last one, she said "yes, you should have got your figure back by now!" - and we both laughed. It's really not that important.

KatyK Sun 01-Apr-18 11:18:13

Thanks all. You are all very lovely and comforting. smile
Rant now definitely over.

gillybob Sun 01-Apr-18 11:07:59

Oh god no, bikergran you really don’t want a “Lulu ear worm” .

We all feel like that sometimes katyk and despite what some (saintly ) people would have you believe it does you good to let the halo slip once in a while. It does make you wonder whether the Helen Mirrens of the world ever get nasty rashes, eye bags etc. But we would never know would we? She would just get a chap to deal with it, or a photoshop to airbrush it out. I wonder if some of them look at photos of themselves and actually believe that’s what they really look like?

DanniRae Sun 01-Apr-18 10:56:24

Sorry to hear of all your troubles KatyK. Sending you my love and some flowers xx

KatyK Sun 01-Apr-18 10:33:20

Thank you kitty smile To be honest, I've had some horrendous things happen in my life, as I'm sure many of you have, so I am not sure why this trivial subject has wound me up! Looking at this magazine I felt petulant, childish and hard done by. I have always tried really hard to look after my appearance. Mother nature (and bad parenting) thought otherwise. I now have rashes that they can't seem to get to the bottom of. Oh and nosebleeds making me scared to go out. Do any of these women get these problems? I know, it doesn't matter but sometimes it does. This week I am bitter and twisted. Next week I'll be fine.

bikergran Sun 01-Apr-18 09:51:50

Im singing it in my head now lol

bikergran Sun 01-Apr-18 09:51:25
