Or so Boots say about their new Line Correcting Booster Serum ? It costs £38.00 ? I wish I didn’t feel tempted to use it on the two lines between my eyes. Anyone else likely to have a go or have you got more sense than me?

Brow lines, not eyebrow ?

Jaxjacky Thu 04-Mar-21 21:42:23

I’m fortunate, minimal, fine eyebrow lines and no tram lines, when I remember I use Nivea cream, and extremely rarely a dab of mascara, maybe once a year, no other makeup. My Mum had very good skin, so perhaps it’s inherited.

Do you recommend a coat of yacht varnish followed by steel wool and a wax polish to finish bikergran?

bikergran Thu 04-Mar-21 10:10:52

I've got a Black and Decker sander if anyone wants to borrow grin then finish off with some 5000 grade wet and dry.

It works lovely on my woodwork! smooth as a ............

Please don’t ignore skincare whatever your age...
This product will work but it’s stuffed full of chemicals as well. Have a look at the Ordinary range and Niod from deciem ..it really is good and reasonably priced. I am not selling it but I use various products. - it has natural and scientific ingredients and it’s based on valid scientific research .. our skin deserves some care.... And wear SPF ..the sun gives you the wrinkles !

I totally agree with your recommendation of the ordinary, are use it and find it very well priced and effective

(Please don't paralyse your face with Botox and end up looking really weird - like some celebrities!)

NanKate, although we know, for sure, that these things don't work - still we're somehow tempted to believe in magic. (It's so expensive it has to do something, doesn't it?)

The skincare/cosmetics industry, meanwhile, rake in the profits and 'laugh all the way to the bank' as my Mum would have said!

These days, I give generously to charities instead.

Boots were doing a voucher for a fiver off their new product so I bought some. I know it won’t work but I told the DH it was cheaper than a facelift and that seemed OK with him.

I slap Clarin and Protect and Perfect on my face every day and I still look my age, alas.

I use Neals Yard Remedies as I like that there are no chemicals in them and they have essential oils which smell beautiful!! I think I'm lucky in having good genes as Mum didn't use these products and aged very well just using a cheap and cheerful moisturiser!

Daisyboots Sun 15-Apr-18 02:17:31

Using moisturiser every day is the main thing not the cost . I use Lidl Q10 moisturiser usually. My DH bought two bottles of serum and two jars of moisturiser from my beautician for me for Christmas. So I use the Lidl one day and the expensive one the next. But nothing will ever get rid of the line between my eyebrows which came from frowning over accounts books for years.

Always use products fromThe Ordinary, skin never looked better , and average price point for products about £6.

Jennylynn Sat 14-Apr-18 19:21:17

Over the years I have tried Clarins, Clinique, Lancôme etc and can honestly say that the £2.99 day cream I now buy from Lidl is every bit as good, if not better than the premium brands.

Greciangirl, over 10 years how can you know that it is the cream that does it and it isn't just that you are naturally aging well?

Greciangirl Sat 14-Apr-18 17:49:32

I have used boots serums for around ten years now and I think my skin hasn’t aged very much.

But £38 does sound a bit steep and I imagine there’s not a lot of difference with the cheaper priced serum.
They keep changing the name and the packaging, that’s all.

My mum and her 5 sisters only ever used Astral, Ponds, or the Nivea in the blue tin.....all in their 80's and have fantastic skin.....great genes I think.

Take your glasses off - it works wonders! Can't see the wrinkles!!?

Magrithea Sat 14-Apr-18 16:42:16

I bought something in Boots last weekend and was handed a voucher with my receipt with the words " Look out for our new product, it's a surprise but you'll love it!" from the assistant. I don't want to get rid of my wrinkles or grey hair (I gave up colouring 2 years ago) - I'm happy in my skin, thank you!

lovebeigecardigans1955 Sat 14-Apr-18 16:01:03

I stick to good old Oil of Olay Original Beauty Fluid as I've found nothing to beat it yet.
Why can't we wear our wrinkles with pride? They are, after all, badges of wisdom and experience.

For years I emulated my mother and grandmother's simple (four step) routine with great results. My grandmother's mantra was 'Never use soap on your face!' She had remarkably smooth skin and very few wrinkles even in her seventies. I'm told that in her prime, her beautiful skin was legendary.

Morning and night: (cleanse and moisturize)
a. Slather your face and neck with 'Pond's cold cream.
b. Rinse off twice; once with warm water then with cold water.
Use a generously sized towel (no tugging with tissues) to pat skin dry.
e. Remove traces of cold cream with cotton ball dabbed in a solution of Witch Hazel and Rose Water. Rose water only if skin is dry.
f. Apply your favorite moisturizer to face and neck

There has been a resurgence of Pond's cold cream lately, but I'm not sure if the ingredients are the same. On the plus side, most moisturizers today have some kind of sunscreen built in. Your biggest challenge may be finding Rose Water or Witch Hazel.

These days, I don't pay as much attention to my skin as I used to, but I still use moisturizers on my face instead of soap.

I like your style Chewbacca! I use Lidl or Aldi face cream and once I’ve put my face on every morning I don’t see it again till I take it off at night! Life is too short! As someone else has said - what does 67 or whatever look like anyway? We are what we are. I’d rather put the £38 towards eg perfume, something I can enjoy.

grandtanteJE65 Sat 14-Apr-18 14:12:35

Nothing in the way of anti-wrinkle cream, moisturiser or preparation to prevent thinning hair that I have ever been silly enough to try have worked.

I somewhat cynically suspect that they are all just a ploy to get us to spend our money!

What's wrong with looking our age? Remember when we were children and desperately added a half to our age, or even three-quarters?

Time we started frowning on the "cult of youth" - we are the age we are, and have experience to back it up.

missdeke Sat 14-Apr-18 13:07:53

Chewbacca I once bought some that had menthol in it and my eyes just watered all the time. grin

I’m a sucker for the sales pitch...
off to Boots to try ( if not sold out )today
I’ll report back

The BBC did a programme recently which blew the whole expensive skin cream myth out of the water and proved that the cheap products were just as good as the expensive ones, and that the only useful ingredient was retinol. They advised looking at the list of ingredients and only buying those which had retinol near the top of the list, as this denotes a higher proportion in the mix. I treated myself to an over-60's event at Boots a couple of years ago, had make-over and bought the whole range of their then current serums, creams etc. The free make-over was nice but the creams had absolutely no effect on my road-map wrinkles, including the tramlines between my eyes! I've continued using the creams, just because I don't want to waste the money I spent and think that at least some moisturising might hold them at bay instead of them taking over completely! I also have some really cheap face cream I keep in our caravan (to save me having to pack to take down there with me), and they're just as soothing to use.
So Nankate, I'd use the £38 towards a different treat for yourself, so that you get the benefit and not Boots!
Anyway I look on aging the same way as wine, the more mature, the better!
