My favourite pick-me-up - scarves! What’s yours?

Rather like a new lippy my go-to “pick me up” is invariably a new scarf, in fact I find them almost impossible to resist.
Whether it’s a £6 cheapo from our local market (great selection, fantastic value) or one from Joules who design them in colourways to go with their Harbour tops or my latest, a pashmina made of recycled cashmere from Turtle Doves, they just lift my spirits.
I am incapable of parting with any of them too, so I have drawers full! blush

Just Love them and collect them as well and now have rather a huge batch of them

Love scarfs, darn't count them. :-)

Great to read these posts. Now I don't feel so bad about all the scarves I have! All sizes, colours, lightweight and heavyweight. A couple of years ago I knitted a beautiful scarf/pashmina in fine cream yarn, it took ages, it was huge. I inserted knitted rows of coloured metallic yarn every so often and added beads. BUT a few weeks ago when I got it out to wear it for the first time it was full of moth holes. Couldn't believe it. I might knit small patches with the metallic yarn to cover the holes. I was devastated.

More!

Infinity scarves are also (imho) quite easy to wear.
The ends of the scarf are joined,
I put the scarf over my head twist and then loop over head again and voila ready to go smile

Agree Coast 35
I am also a Moira C fan.
They make scarf wearing so easy no mor faffingsmile

Nannan2 I totally agree. I can never get a scarf to look right on me, and I don't like things around my neck. Even a dainty necklace usually gets taken off after an hour or so. High-necked clothes, especially polo necks are also anathema to me, and feel so uncomfortable. I don't know if it is because I'm short-necked, or what, but I have a drawer full of scarves that rarely get used.

I have a few (but I'm not in the same league as some other posters). To encourage me to wear them, I bought a scarf organiser from Amazon, but have nowhere sensible to hang it!

GabriellaG Wed 06-Jun-18 17:34:29

I've only worn 3 of them. ?

Alimarb Wed 06-Jun-18 17:34:23

When my dear mum passed away in February we found a great number of scarves. After giving some away to various family members as mementos I sent the rest to a lovely lady who made them into memory bears. We had nine altogether but there are lots of leftovers, I think we could easily do nine more.

GabriellaG Wed 06-Jun-18 17:33:07

My latest aquisition bought last weekend.
Last month it was Balenciaga, pure silk, a peacock feather pattern in autumn colours on a cream background.
They, as have 80+ others, will be consigned to the scarf graveyard drawer for all eternity. There are some nights when I could swear to hearing the rustling of their tissue-paper shrouds as they jostle for space. ?

Portuguese Custard Tarts!

Love scarves, but my quick indulgence is nail varnish. I always come home with a new one if I’m feeling a bit low. Could open a shop with them nestled into my scarves.

Fennel Wed 06-Jun-18 17:07:00

Like M0nica I have a short neck so don't wear scarves.
I've got a cupboardful of scarves which belonged to my Mum , who loved them.
Anything pink cheers me up - I'm wearing my favourite pink summer jumper at the moment.

Sheilasue Wed 06-Jun-18 16:18:58

I love scarves, such a lot of pretty choices now too.

Funnygran Wed 06-Jun-18 15:18:49

Love the new use for a scarf Juggernaut! I have lots myself but never feel as though I’m wearing them elegantly like other ladies I see. I was in Italy last week where there was a lot of linen in shops so couldn’t resist buying a lovely scarf. I’m still fiddling with it so that I don’t look as though I am wearing a bandage ?

Overthehills Wed 06-Jun-18 15:14:16

I’m sure all of you who think you don’t suit scarves really do! Doesn’t matter how you wear them or how they fall or whatever - I bet others are admiring them! Just do it!

Juggernaut Wed 06-Jun-18 14:14:51

I have about thirty scarves, ten Pashminas, and at least eight wraps, and hardly ever wear any of them.
I buy them in the hope that they'll hang nicely, hide my tum a bit and generally make me look elegant, but I always end up looking like a bag of rags.
If I ever attempt to eat whilst wearing a scarf, well, it's just somewhere to store whatever misses my mouthblush

Kim19 Wed 06-Jun-18 13:31:27

Thank goodness this is a weakness I've not indulged in. I have enough of them already and I'm trying to offload. However, I do watch and admire those who obviously have 'a way' with scarves but I do it from a self imposed distance.

Another scarfaholic here. Also a fan of Turtle Doves recycled cashmere. I have no idea how many scarves I have. Note to self: must get them out and organize them somehow.

coast35 Wed 06-Jun-18 13:29:19

I have a collection of scarves from MoiraC Apparently she is on QVC. I first stumbled across them in a display at a shopping mall. They have a small magnet at each end which saves the faff of tying them. She also has a wee video on her site showing different ways of wearing them. They are also available through Amazon. I love them.

Daisyboots Wed 06-Jun-18 12:59:24

I love scarves and they look so elegant... on other people but like Beau I feel stupid when I wear one and think I look a mess. Even after watching lots of videos showing different ways of using them. I have about 12 scarves some of which were my Mum's. I do display them though as I put one of the over door hanging things on the outside of my bedroom door and hung them on there so they brighten up the upstairs landing.

Willow500 Wed 06-Jun-18 12:39:12

I have 3 drawers full of scarves and pashminas - and never wear any of them. Some I've bought but quite a few have been gifts. Like someone upthread said I love the look of them but when I wear them they get on my nerves and I feel all cluttered up so end up taking them off.

AlieOxon Wed 06-Jun-18 12:30:48

I wouldn't say I'm a scarfoholic, but I have one favourite which I keep losing - and so far it has come back!
Twice in the post, and once when I went back to a pub (not knowing where I left it) and was presented with it as they had kindly kept it and recognised me!

I hope it stays....

Aepgirl Wed 06-Jun-18 12:17:51

I had so many scarves that I had a grand clear out and took some of them to the charity shop. Since then on a couple of occasions I have gone to wear one and realised it was one that I have disposed of. I try not to hoard but get caught out when I don't!

oldandbold Wed 06-Jun-18 12:11:58

Sorry Pamaga, I mistyped your name.
