Wouldn’t it be nice......

Hobbs have some good Tshirts. I was given one once - and have bought from it again because the Tshirts last much longer than others. Zara isn't bad for clothes, but they haven't heard of resizing so a 10 is an old 10, not a 12 pretending to be a 10, which can be quite a shock. Another here that hates M&S colours and fabrics - what's with lilac? and the embroidery?

I buy most of my clothes from Bonmarche. Tops wash well, jeans are a good fit and I like their pj's (don't do nightdressess). My body is what it is and I don't worry about showing arms or chest as long as I'm comfortable. Hate shopping in M&S or any large department store since they stopped having all the similar items together e.g. trouser department, dress department etc

I don't wear nightwear in bed (at the moment I can't even 'wear' a sheet) but do have quite a few pairs of pj's from Matalan/Tu which are either plain or patterned which I put on for decency in the morning. I too buy a lot of my clothes from QVC as I find they fit and wash well. The last few times I've been in M&S I've never seen anything remotely nice - I miss BHS

I like Landsend for quality t-shirts, they just do not wear out. Lots of plain colours and different neck and sleeve lengths.

They also do a plain style night dress like a long t-shirt, really comfortable to wear in a choice of lengths.

I have to agree about dresses, everything seems sleeveless and not cover the knee, yet I have more money available to spend on myself than when I was younger.

Why isn't anybody out there in the world of retail listening?

Doesn't anyone sell reasonable skirts anymore? I've been looking for a summer one but apart from really short versions and lacey teenage ones I can't find anything suitable that isn't for an aged aunt.

Oh yes ! frustrating isn't it ....no cotton dresses long enough for me, at 70 and 5'9 I don't want to show my knees every time ...also like Bonmarche (cos they do mail order to France) got a bargain satin cotton dress in Debenhams ..£45 reduced to £25 and then ...wait for it ...£13 ! so what's not to like !! I also found some lovely dresses in J D WILLIAMS but sadly they don't deliver to France ....really pretty, cotton and good prices !

I resorted to buying some cotton material and a pattern in Spring, but sadly it is still in the bag ..........................oh dear ! looks like another table cloth might be in order .............

I do wish the fashion people would LISTEN to what we want ! grrrrrr

My chief but is that Sainsbury's seem to have stopped selling long sleeved T-shirts at all! Plain ones.

And the one I had from there, a nice cream one to go with a fancy top over, for posh, has walked - where to? Vanished for two years, and I never wore it.

Men's plain T-shirts, I mean - the women's are always too short for me.

t-shirt as others were too old to wear. Looked everywhere, nothing in favourite shops. Wandered into a never-step into shop, as am too old, etam, and found a T Trendy. Surprise!

I find Sainsburys clothes to be good quality and long lasting.

Indeed Poppyred. We seem to get offered a 'vast' choice of just two looks - the late Queen Mother and Mutton-Dressed-as-Lamb!

Just wait until these designer types eventually get old - I hope they spend the rest of their days in a care home being spoon fed pureed cabbage and pureed economy fish fingers whilst being forced to wear their own dire creations - acrylic 'sensible' cardigans in pastel shades or leopard print crop tops!

I was a big fan of Whitestuff but they seem to have gone more like Per Una at M & S. I have done very well at Seasalt this last year but they do seem to repeat same styles in different colours so guess I may get bored with them eventually. My real challenge is getting trousers and jeans to fit as I have a small rear and slim thighs so most makes are too baggy. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I found reasonbly priced plain t shirts in M&Co. They have the slightly longer short sleeve that M&S used to do.
Not too expensive either. I used to love Landsend but they have put their prices up too much for my liking.

Just sitting here agreeing with most but feeling incredibly depressed because unlike emelle my thighs and rear end are not.

Disparate sizing is my pet peeve! Depending on where clothes are made, a "Large" ends up being no bigger than a 'small' or 'medium' in the rest of the world. ....and never mind that oversized shirt with the tiny sleeve openings, or pullover sweaters that are strategically narrowed to enhance your fat 'belly' area only, yet fit nicely everywhere else!

Emelle, have you tried using loose leggings as 'pants'? Last year, I bought a pair of 'Jean' leggings (thicker fabric), but got them a size larger since I didn't want them to be formfittingly snug.

Being one size bigger, they look more like 'skinny' jeans than true leggings. They cost half of what jeans would have and turned out to be a nice fit (I have skinny legs too).

In defence of M&S in love their half sleeve t shirts. They come in plain colours and nice prints, wash well and are good value. Admittedly I don't buy much else from Marks.

willa45 - Thank you for that - I'll try some. I do like my jeans though and the best pair I ever had were NYJD but as I am now retired, I really can' t justify paying so much for them.

I got a really nice nightie from M&S, navy and white Breton stripe, below the knee (never worn in bed though, except if the GDGs are staying over); bought it really for slobbing around first thing in the morning and getting a few jobs done. And it was free, because I had a £10 voucher to be spent on nightwear.

But they are fitted! Box shape would be much nicer!

Strangely I found a dress in M&S this year that I like. Unfortunately it is sleeveless so I bought a little bolero from Wallis. My OH says I worry too much about my arms and in this hot weather, I have taken the bolero off a couple of times. The dress has a zip at the front so I can choose how high or low I want it. We have a very large M&S near us and normally I am amazed that I am unable to find anything I like.

These fashions are pre-set a year early by the designers who are mainly male and with young women in mind. They are paraded on the catwalks then given free to famous women who will wear them and their fashions will then be sought after by the rest of the flock. Even if not sought after that is what will be found in the shops!
Now as far as retailers are concerned they just want to make profits so they need to wake up and demand a better selction to cater for all who have money to spend in their shops and stores. Many times I have gone clothes shopping and come home with my bank balance still intact.
They say M and S is closing stores down and they make more profit out of the food stores than from clothing.
..Yes, they really ought to ask all of us what we would like to wear and not be slaves to the designers.
