I bought myself some shorts yesterday

I haven't worn shorts for years, but in this heat, trousers are so hot.

They are 1950s style, tailored, dark navy but with a tie belt (not a draw string), with a skirt silhouette but clearly shorts. really quite smart

I have them on this morning and they are so cool. I am not sure whether I would wear them out, unless by the sea but for house and garden wear they are perfect. Thankfully my legs are still in good order and can stand scrutiny.

I hae ma doots as my Glaswegian namesake would say.
I am somewhat surprised GNHQ have left the shorts post undeleted. The shirt one is just hilarious tosh.

I won't say here what I said on another thread when this person posted. I apologised and promised to reform myself and act like a lady, but I am thinking itgrin

He's at it again. 10.35.54. I wonder where he/she is posting from? " no groin restricting inseams" .

Legs blotched from too much exposure to the sun at an earlier age! But I used to wear shorts on Ramblers' holidays, usually in warmer climates. Not a pretty sight but nobody cared.

ffinochio I'd post a photo of me and my shorts displaying my magnificent but scarred knees but fear it would be too much and might break the Internet!

Do you find your shorts comfortable in general, Jane10* , as well as helping the discomfort in your knee?

I do find the flappy kind quite freeing. Can’t say they suit me, but that’s not high on my adgenda if they stop me feeling hot and sticky, and that adds to my confidence, rather than diminishes it ?

PamelaJ1 Sun 29-Jul-18 09:03:01

Absolutely Mapleleaf, that’s kind of the message I was trying to get across, maybe not very well, If it doesn’t matter to you that people like me (mean and nasty) are thinking then who cares. We only think it for a second anyway and I don’t think many of us judgemental beings would actually give away what we’re thinking so how would you be bothered by it?
If it hadn’t been for this thread I would have totally forgotten about the humongous woman in her bikini and she is none the wiser so I didn’t do her any harm.

This was me last Sunday.....

I have far too much consideration for others to post such a picture Marmight. Life is bad enough for people without that!

Marmight Sun 29-Jul-18 08:34:05

I have plenty of personal pride thank you very much! However it goes out of the window on a hot sticky summer's day when I don't give a t* * * about how I look or whoever sees me. At least I don't hide behind closed doors pretending I'm not actually wearing 'shorts' . Come on Jane10 selfie time... gringrin

Just seen a photo of me playing Walking Netball in my skort. I'm surprised nobody was blinded by the whiteness of my legs!

Jane10 Sun 29-Jul-18 07:27:44

Yes it's only a matter of personal pride and if people have none that's their affair.

Well said, NannaandGrampy. At the end of the day, what does it matter what anyone else thinks??

NanaandGrampy Sat 28-Jul-18 11:45:15

I always wear shorts all summer! My legs are passable but quite frankly as I wear them for my comfort I don’t much care what anyone else thinks ???

Jane10 Sat 28-Jul-18 11:16:14

Well Grans. Want a laugh? Guess what I'm wearing? Yes shorts. Well shorts of a sort. As some of you may know, I recently had a total knee replacement op. I have long scar down my knee. It's very sensitive to the feel of anything on it. I had a brainwave this morning and cut the legs off an old pair of stretchy cotton trousers. Result - a pair of longish shorts. I look appalling I them! Of course nobody must ever see me wearing them (DH and DD are away) and I'll deny that I have them if anyone asks!! blush

Thanks for the link M0nica.

I like them grin

I'm over 60 and I have lived in shorts and a strappy vest, or strapless top, every day for weeks. I put a top with wider straps on if I have to go into town but for gardening and dog-walking, nobody needs to worry what I look like. I have some elastic waisted Reebok and Adidas shorts, and a linen pair from the charity shop. My legs aren't bad, a short scar and a few broken veins but they're slim, toned and this year they're tanned too.

I don't bare my midriff though!!!

Luckygirl Thu 26-Jul-18 21:31:03

I don't wear them. My legs are not fit to be seen by other members of the human race. Lots of varicose veins and a huge swollen foot from when I broke it. I also wear a tubigrip on the swelling a lot of the time. That is hot!!!

Marmight Thu 26-Jul-18 20:28:23

ffinnochio ?
I find shorts so much easier & more comfortable when working/lazing in the garden; floaty dresses & skirts don't quite cut it for me when I'm cutting back the undergrowth, swinging from a ladder or lounging on the sunbed. I'd feel obliged to slap on the full face paint to compliment the look grin
