I have been wearing hush sort of light weight, trousers and more or less any tops and some nice sandals for months. Also, a couple of maxi skirts. I think this has been reasonably successful. Now the season is changing..... what to wear? Picture a vertically challenged, size 14 ish person who feels the cold. Thanks folks. smile

Absolutely true lemongrove however, I do have some standards so I like to accessorise. Along with my writer's hat (a purple velvet toque) I do wear jewellery to match my outfit. Obviously, leopardskin and purple goes with everything so Joanna and I find that the M&S pebble necklace was a good buy.

Jane10 We know that authors rarely get dressed, and that you very likely live in a a mock leopard onesie! grin

Old Batty, I have seen them in Primark.

Chub, tell me more about fleece lined leggings ? please

Jane10 Sun 23-Sept-18 19:52:15

I'm so happy and feeling very stylish! Just watching Joanna Lumley on her Silk Road programme and she was actually wearing my necklace!! Well it's an M&S one. Obviously she secretly shares my style. Am so proud.

Have I found my style?
Yes absolutely I'm 4ft 11 inches size 14 and struggled for years to find something I felt comfortable in and that suited me. So I went for the kind of biker boho look. Nice comfortable biker style boots with leggings and shirts for Autumn when not too cold then when winter comes I swop the shirts for ' boyfriend ' style jumpers and cardigans. Off course i layer as it gets colder Summer is easy it's gladiator sandals and Joe Brown dresses. They flatter any shape, age, height or size. The leggings get stopped in the winter for fleece lined ones. Hope this helps

I wonder what he would prefer ( perhaps better not to go there)

clementine Sun 23-Sept-18 15:02:56

My thoughts exactly ! Can't believe she even mentioned that .

oldbatty Sun 23-Sept-18 11:12:17

My husband would prefer that I didn’t wear trousers in the evening, but he has sort of weakened

Oh dear!!!!!

Saw this and posted it as a separate topic but probably should have put it here in the light of the discussions , it seems quite relevant .

teabag, just book it. Give yourself a couple of hours.....why not?

Mamie Sun 16-Sept-18 08:56:16

Anyway, when not lounging around in a big t-shirt with one leg on a pillow, I mostly wear jeggings and tops from Joules, Seasalt and White Stuff. In summer I wear knee length linen skirts and t shirts or tops from the above. My DD passes on a lot of stylish stuff that is no longer smart enough for work.
I do have tunics and leggings from before I lost weight and they will probably get an airing this year.

teabagwoman Sun 16-Sept-18 08:07:40

That’s a rotten thing to have happen Mamie. The only thing I can think of is perhaps cheap jogging bottoms and split one leg and maybe attach some tapes so you can tie it together over the plaster. Not exactly elegant but any port in a storm

Thank you OldBatty for your advice and support, I’ll try and pluck up courage and book myself a personal shopper. And I’ll try going up a size MawBroon and see if that helps to disguise the portly bits. Good point about charity shops M0nica, I’ll ask my dd to look as she lives in a more affluent area.

Mamie Sun 16-Sept-18 08:06:24

Thanks Ffinn. On one colder day I cut one leg off some leggings!

ffinnochio Sun 16-Sept-18 07:57:47

Gosh, Mamie, so sorry to hear about your ankle. Must be even more miserable with the heat you’ve been having.
Hopefully you’ll have a mild start to Autumn. Can’t think of alternative wear, apart from wide legged pantaloons!

Mamie Sun 16-Sept-18 07:48:08

Thanks NanKate. Sadly not passing very quickly so far. ?

NanKate Sun 16-Sept-18 07:36:07

I’m sorry Mamie to hear of your nasty break I do hope the next few weeks pass quickly for you so you can get out of your plaster.

Mamie Sun 16-Sept-18 07:25:38

Well I am rocking the one-legged look having fallen downstairs and broken my ankle while packing the car to go on holiday. I am in plaster from toes to thigh - what can I wear?
It is still really hot here so at the moment I am wearing OH's big t-shirts with a summer skirt when I go to the fracture clinic (only outing possible).
I still have four weeks to go so does anyone have any ideas for colder weather?
Probably not relevant but I am normally a size 12 now more like a 10.

I sorted my style years ago - scruffy and comfortable - and if folk don't like it they can look the other way!

MawBroon Sat 15-Sept-18 21:13:23

Real Jaguar or faux fur M0nica?

Jane10 Sat 15-Sept-18 20:01:13

Hallelujah! At last I've found my style. Unfortunately Joanna Lumley wears it for me as I can't quite fit it (or most likely afford it!). Oh well. At least I found it. Shame I can't actually wear it.

M0nica Sat 15-Sept-18 19:51:41

If you are short of money, find a nice town and trawl the charity shops.

I went to a wedding this summer wearing a 1960's Jaguar dress, 1980s M&Co jacket and with a very attractive handbag, all found in my local charity shops. My lovely Jacques Vert coat was bought for a quarter of its new price on ebay and I have several skirts and another coat, all from charity shops.

I do not feel embarrassed by this and will happily admit to people who ask where I sourced these items.

Went to the Ladies on the ferry home from France yesterday, six women in the queue. I was the only one not wearing Breton stripes. then someone came out of a cubicle and she was wearing........

I was wearing a loose floral top.
