We are going to a rock concert (ELO) next month. I haven't been to one for years and dont know what to wear. I got as far as black jeans and boots and got lost. I thought black t shirt but that's a bit predictable. Any ideas would be great - happy to spend on this. Thank you

Thankfully its indoors - Birmingham Arena and a nice hotel as a base and booked taxis- too old to rough it now.

They are amazing Menopaws - I saw them at Leeds Festival some years ago but this was incredible. It's on Youtube if you look it up - someone filmed the whole concert!!

Very jealous Willow seeing Foo Fighters, would love to see them live

Indoors it can be very hot. Wear something washable and trainers or flat boots eg Doc Martins so that it will not hurt too much if someone steps on your toes. I take an atomiser of water to spry myself and a fan. often find myself surrounded by youngsters asking to be sprayed and saying they wish they had thought of it. And Gabriella at 71 I wear a hoodie when appropriate.

Teetime, oh how I envy you.
An ELO Concert !!!!!!
Fantastic. One of the BEST bands ever.
All I can say is wear something cool, as in you will probably get very hot, especially if you are able to dance around amongst crowds of other fans. T-shirt and Jeans always works. If the concert is outdoors, then do get yourself a simple plastic 'poncho' just in case it rains. They are cheap, and you can get them from shops that sell Tents, walking shoes etc. They fit easily into your handbag too.
But then again you may have Mr Blue Sky.??.
I hope that you have a really, really, wonderful time Teetime

Really Gabriella ? How old fashioned you must be. (IMO of course wink )

GabriellaG Mon 03-Sept-18 13:40:23

IMO, hoodies are for under 25s, not mature women...or men.

If it's outdoor, wear something warm, comfortable, and that you won't cry if it gets ruined. Oh and take a shewee, toilet queues are forever. And hand sanitizer. And your own food and drink if it's allowed.

That looks great but she also looks about a size 10!!smile

I like these looks:-

Enjoy ELO!

I really don't think it matters what you wear Teetime as long as you are comfortable. For a long established band like ELO (lucky you!) you'll find that the audience will be so varied in age and style whatever you wear will fit in.

Treated myself and daughter last year to ELO. Absolutely amazing. Anything goes as so cross generational but "think" comfort and layers.....Just did Van Morrison "outdoors" this weekend and there was everything from "festival" glastonbury look to the country set hunters. Me and hubby just did jeans and jumpers for the cooler evening.

I've been to quite a few concerts (the last was Foo Fighters at Etihad)and noticed that just anything goes these days. Jeans, trainers or ballet pumps and tee shirts seem to be favourite but equally I've seen people in long dresses, boots and band tees. The main thing is to be comfortable - and warm if it's outside. If you've a long walk to the venue from the car park and will be standing all night (even if it's seated most people stand up during the gig) flats are the best idea.

Enjoy ELO - not seen them but have had Gold on the radio a lot recently and remembered how much I liked their stuff back in the day!

Don’t take a handbag but wear the smallest cross body bag you can get away with. Don’t put anything on the floor. Last concert I went to a woman in the row in front had her coat on the floor and the woman behind her spilt a pint of beer on the floor. Enjoy!

How amazing pittcity one of my dream concerts .

You're very welcome rizlet hope you like it as much as I do ?

Pittcity Mon 03-Sept-18 08:38:29

We saw ELO at Wembley last year and dressed comfortably with a lightweight mac. Most were of the older generation and some had gone all out with blue sky dresses etc.
It's a fabulous show and you will be up dancing throughout, so comfort is a must!

rizlett Mon 03-Sept-18 08:28:48

Thank you so much gillybob - I'm going to order right now....

Enjoy your concert Teetime ~ I shall think of you rocking away whenever I wear my hoody. grin

gillybob Mon 03-Sept-18 08:13:50

Hi rizlet I’m a size 12-14 and went for the medium which is a very good fit . I have worn it off it back this last week even used the hood a few times when it got chilly at night which is why I suggested it for what I assumed was an outdoor concert ? I normally live in my denim jacket but they’re not warm at all. I’m thinking about ordering the black one in a week or two as it is so versatile and such good quality for the price . smile

It's a rock concert! Wear whatever you like!

rizlett Mon 03-Sept-18 07:42:49

@gillybob may I ask what size hoody you purchased from Next? I've just seen it online and it looks fab but unsure about how big a large is. confused

Sorry for hijacking the thread!

As for the jacket, it depends where the concert is. If it’s in a stadium or there’s a long walk from the car park, I’d look for a lightweight Parka type jacket. There’s a lot coming into the shops now.
If it is indoors (and were me ) I’d wear a short leather or denim jacket.
Sound like a great night out, have fun.

Speldnan Mon 03-Sept-18 07:36:50

Something light as it’ll be hot- and ear plugs! I always wear them as I don’t want my hearing damaged at my age, you can still hear the music just as well.

OldMeg Mon 03-Sept-18 07:25:19

Wear whatever you like. Anything goes.

Granfran Mon 03-Sept-18 07:22:54

I am going to see Barry Manilow tomorrow night and wasnt sure what to wear either. Flat shoes will be a must though.

pen50 Mon 03-Sept-18 07:21:01

My go to outfit for this sort of occasion is slim black jeans and black T-shirt, topped with a denim jacket. Everything is washable in case of beer mishaps. I echo the suggestion to wear comfortable footwear.
