White trousers and jeans

Have they had their final outing?
I have worn white linen trousers and jeans most of this summer because everything goes with them and because the weather has been so amazing.
But in London today I noticed that women are beginning to wear what I think of as Autumn wear and my white jeans felt a bit seaside-y.
So is it the temperature or the season which influences what we wear?
Just as woolly jumpers feel wrong, however chilly a day might get in July, should the white trousers now be on their way to the suitcases in the loft?

I have white skinny jeans. I love them. I love looking at them and thinking about wearing them. I wore them on holiday three years ago. Apart from that I'm not brave enough. Dont ask me why. I don't know. My advice is: Life is too short so wear what you want when you want! especially in London - so many different nationalities with so many styles of clothing.. I just wish I could follow my own advice.

I confess to having some rather nice white/cream jumpers, but they are only worn when the weather is appropriate, not dictated by the calendar!

Rarely wear white, my propensity for spilling, dropping, or otherwise staining them within minutes, precludes it, but I wear pastel and nearly white.

I generally wear summer clothes until it gets too cold to wear them, which is usually late September, or even early October in these globally warmed days..

I never wear white trousers ,I look after 4 GC on a regular basis ,you'd be surprised just how much food/drink/PAINT can end up on my trousers by the end of the day .

I remember an episode of 'Frasier' where Niles was talking about how they laugh at people who wear white after 'Labour day'!

I often wonder who it is that makes up these "rules" about what to wear when. Follow your instinct and the temperature. ?

Petra I am 5mins away from Southend, my white jeans have just come out, as too warm in summer!!!

My white jeans and white cropped jeggings have just been washed and pressed ready to go into my holiday suitcase in about 2 weeks time they will then be packed away until next year

My white jeans went in the charity bag before the summer and the one pair of white linen ones from Monsoon will get there last outing this weekend then they will get washed and packed away along with the very summery dresses. Had a bit of heating on this morning.

My white jeans were too warm this Summer and I have just started wearing them. I wear them all winter with boots unless the weather is really filthy. There are no fashion police around here.
I think Americans dress far too conservatively and life's too short.

It used to be said that white should not be worn between Labor Day and Memorial Day (end of May) but I believe that it was only frowned on in the southern states, and seems to have fallen by the wayside.

Oh dear, I was about to pack my white jeans for my trip to Rome on Friday! sad

JackyB Wed 05-Sept-18 06:22:46

Oh dear - early morning syndrome. "Wear" not "Where". How on earth did that happen?

JackyB Wed 05-Sept-18 06:21:44

Yes, an American friend of mine quoted that saying too - don't where white between Labor Day and ... I've forgotten the other one. Must be around May.

But you do see some lovely white wool fashions in winter jumpers, trousers, and coats, so that saying must be from at least the 50s.

notanan2 Wed 05-Sept-18 00:19:28

Isn't there a saying in fashion that you don't wear white after labour day weekend?

But since the seasons have shifted I dont switch to winter wardrobe until usually around the second week in October!

PS Can't remember the last time (if ever) that I wore white trousers!

I was shock the other day in Lidl, a warm sunny day might I add, to see a young mum wearing cords, a shirt, with a jumper over it, and a full length winter coat!

Heaven knows what she will be wearing in the winter, unless of course she just hibernates?

Coolgran65 Tue 04-Sept-18 23:37:11

Correct, Labor Day was Monday. I forgot that today was Tuesday !!

Coolgran65 Tue 04-Sept-18 22:35:46

hellosunshine I think today is Labour Day.

MawBroon Tue 04-Sept-18 22:33:21

Labor Day was yesterday -3 September.

Perhaps I was an American in a past life confused?
I felt fine in them on Saturday........

PECS Tue 04-Sept-18 22:24:26

In Spain they know the English tourists ..thy wear white even when it is not summer!

Hellosunshine Tue 04-Sept-18 22:16:58

Thought I'd had my last wear of my white jeans for this summer when I wore them to go for lunch on Friday. However I agree with Marmight and anyway will certainly be taking my white linen trousers in holiday at the end of September . I read somewhere the Americans don't wear white after Labour Day which I think is early September.

petra Tue 04-Sept-18 22:09:32

Oh no, the white jeans never go in the suitcase in the loft. Mainly because no clothes ever get put away and I live in Southend where white jeans are always acceptable grin
But! they have to be Levi's or, my favourite Ralph Lauren's.

Marmight Tue 04-Sept-18 21:53:21

Well it's Lundin, innit! Just wear what feels right for you. We are promised warm temperatures up until November. The longer I wear my summer gear, the shorter the winter will be. Well that's my slant on it wink

PECS Tue 04-Sept-18 21:52:15

Oh at Wisley on Monday plenty of white jeans/ trousers, including mine! I wore a pair of very light grey cropped jeans to the National Theatre last night. Most women were wearing summery clothes still..a few in office wear but it still felt summery!
