Does anyone know the difference between facial Day creams and Night creams ,, do we need both ? Does the night cream only work at night with a special ingredient that won't work during the day ?, just wondering ,

I have always used Johnson's baby lotion. Love the smell and it keeps my skin soft. My daughter did tell me when I reached 40 that I should start to use a grown up moisturiser, but I am happy to stick with what works for me. Thanks for sharing ladies ?

My late Mother in Law used Nivea on her face every morning & night of her life, she had the most beautiful soft, line free skin I've ever seen. I've done the same, and yes, it keeps my skin soft & moisturized -and recently I have used the large Morrisons baby lotion (pink-think its called Nutmeg) cost 1 pound for huge bottle! It is lovely , use it on my legs, elbows, and I have psoriasis , but this softens my skin
Highly recommended!

When he was little my DS said to my mother “Grandma, your skin is too big for you!” She spent her child hood in the Australian outback. I’ve always protected my skin so I’m hoping my DGD won’t say the same to me!

Oh and I use Boots protect and perfect serum under my day moisturiser every day too

The best skin I ever had was when I was breastfeeding and had to drink 8 large glasses of water a day. My face just bloomed, plumped up and so clear. My mum who is 92 has never used make up at all, she used Ponds cold cream every night and still has lovely skin. I would never pay those ridiculous prices for face cream, it’s all hype in my opinion.

Have just discovered goat milk and donkey milk face creams. Lovely. If asses' milk was good enough for Cleopatra, then it's good enough for me!

I have been using Olay day cream for years sf15 I think or could be sf30!!
Then night cream which I only use sometimes would be Olay.
I am always being told I don't look my age 47

Day creams need an SPF in them, night creams do not - they're more about hydrating. But as long as they don't have anything in them that will irritate your skin, smell nice and do the job, I don't think it matters how much they are. I am line-free at 60 and have always used a Boots range. My Mum was almost line free when she died (aged 79) and she used Oil of Olay all her life. As long as you keep your skin clean, hydrated and don't toast it in the sun, that's all you can do (I think).

Day and night cream has a big difference. The principle of action on the skin. I use both creams!

Luckily I have quite good skin but I have always used a skincare routine. I used No. 7 for years having tried expensive makes which smelt divine but did not do any more than mid range No. 7.
Then after having a demo at WI I started using Tropic products. They have no animal products in them & are not tested on animals which matters to me so I switched. It is also made in a small factory here in Surrey. My skin has never looked so good. It is a bit dearer than my usual but you need a very small amount so I think it evens out. It has made a real difference & I am delighted so I would say that finding a brand that suits you can make a big difference.
I get it online.
Worth a look! The girl who runs it was a winner on The Aprentice.

Grannybuy,I liked your story.
My grandson once said to me when he was little.
"You haven't got any wrinkles granny but you are a bit crinkly!"

I’ve suffered with acne all my life even though I’m now nearly seventy! My Dad had it so maybe hereditary not sure. Tried every thing dermatologists etc. Then went to a fete last year where a stall had organic argon oil products. Tried the one with frankincence and rose and have noticed a dramatic change! Skin never going to be unmarked but much much better. So regime is now remove make up with micellar water then apply oil sparingly to face and neck It moisturises and is comfortable.

Four year old GD asked me what I was doing when she saw me applying moisturiser to my face. When I explained, half in jest, that it was to make me look younger, she earnestly replied, " It hasn't worked granny ". They are so honest!

Lucky me to have inherited my mother's skin. Cheap moisturiser day and night for me. People are always amazed at my age they say I look about 60 and I'm 77. Thank you mother.

Nanny27 Thu 10-Jan-19 12:15:18

I use L'Oréal skin serum. Has anyone else discovered this. It's lovely and light with a gorgeous smell. Not expensive either. I don't have dry skin so a serum is perfect for me.

tickingbird Thu 10-Jan-19 11:24:54

Totally agree with Anja. Stick to basic moisturiser. I used to use really expensive creams and serums but haven’t do so for years. Use Aldi moisturiser now. I once watched a documentary where a leading dermatologist did an exercise over 6 months with various women using some cheap creams through to really high end Creme de la Mer products. The women didn’t know which products they were using as they had been decanted into plain containers. Their skin was tested under special machines at the end and there was zero difference. Our skin needs moisturiser to protect from drying and the elements and spf to protect from the sun. I realised after watching that programme how i’d been wasting my money.

Was told by a doctor years ago that Nivea was the best cream to use. Was given Chanel No 5 body lotion as a present for Christmas. £81! Some people have more money than sense.

Cambia Thu 10-Jan-19 11:19:29

A lot of older people have amazing skin and when I ask they always say Nivea or Ponds Cold Cream! There didn’t use to be so many products around and they don’t seem to have missed out. Personally I always cleanse, moisturise and that is about it. Not many wrinkles at 63.

Lancslass1 Thu 10-Jan-19 11:13:40

Re toners.
I use rose water .

Excellent.
If you like you can mix it with a little witch hazel.

I have been using Olay cream since I was in my teens. It has changed over time, but is still an excellent product for quite a low price. I have tried other more expensive brands but always come back to Olay. I use the day cream with its SPF 15 factor and the night cream with retinol in it, at night. I have been told that my skin is really good and I don't look my age which is 67, so it works for me.

Lancslass1 Thu 10-Jan-19 11:10:02

I use either baby bottom butter or coconut oil at night but during the day I use some lovely vitamin C cream from Body Shop.
Lovely and light.
In truth ,I think as long as you moistuise your skin you don't need to spend a fortune on it.
When I was younger I always used Johnson's baby lotion.
If I am given any sort of face cream as a present I will happily use it.
At my advanced age I think less is more so I only use a light foundation -no powder .
It pleases me ,so that is all that matters.

grannysue05 Thu 10-Jan-19 11:00:43

I do think that its down to your genetic inhieritance.
My mother had peaches and cream skin ....plump and beautiful until she passed away at 86 years.
I would have loved to have such a lovely complexion but instead ended up with my fathers thread veins and rosy cheeks!
Cleansing thoroughly at the end of the day and applying any nourishing moisturiser works for me.

I suddenly developed dry irritable skin two years ago when I became passionate about gardening. I have always had very sensitive skin which burns easily and reacts randomly to new products. In the hayfever season my eyelids have started swelling and splitting. I saw my doctor last year when I woke up looking like Elephant man having spent the previous day preparing green bean for the freezer. he has prescribed three antihistamine tablet a day , avoid make up, moisturise as much as possible and I have been using Aveeno bodywash and Aveeno rich moisturiser with colloidal oats in them which are supposed to be specially soothing. Things are much improved . I am both looking forward to the new gardening season and dreading it in equal measure.

arosebyanyothername Thu 10-Jan-19 10:47:16

I used to use day & night cream but now just day cream for both.
I consider them both moisturisers, no cream will stop wrinkles but a good SPF will help.
