Store Cupboard Ingredients for a quick meal.

Not only do I have a store cupboard, I have a 14 cubic foot chest freezer with enough meat, fish, fruit and veg to feed us for a couple of months.

In our house in France, as well as a limited supply of basics we always have six tins of soup, a Fray Bentos steak pie, 4 ambient packaged ready meals in stock.

We were once snowed up for 2 days when we were there. I reckoned be could have managed for about 10 days but by the end we would be eating things like rice in a marmite stock, served with apple chutney!

Now for the sensible answer:

In the store cupboard I have rice, pasta, tinned tomatoes, tinned beans, tinned tuna, sardines. lentils and other pulses, opened tomato puree in the fridge, stock cubes, creamed coconut and a forgotten fajita kit (you have to add nearly all the other ingredients so an expensive mistake!) plus the usual condiments, oils, flour, honey, custard powder etc etc. Plus, left from Christmas, two jars of mincemeat, Christmas puddings, tinned fruit, condensed milk (was going to make something with it but didn't).

Now we need some recipes!

Biscuits (left over from Christmas)
just going to tidy them up with a cup of coffee.

But a very useful thing to have is a can of ratatouille. With the addition of suitable herbs or spices it can be turned into a sauce for pasta or a vegetable curry.

We have been trying to eat up some of the food we have in rather than buying more. Today is Day 14 without buying anything except milk yesterday. We still have loads of food in!

Onions keep for ages and can start any one-pot dish. Curry powder or paste. A meal doesn't have to include meat, but a tin of ham or a tin of corned beef can both be thrown into a stew or a pasta sauce.

Tinned beans - chick peas, kidney beans., haricot,etc. Peanut butter, tinned tomatoes, tomato purée, coconut milk, lots of herbs and spices, dried red and green lentils, pasta, rice, couscous, noodles, oatmeal, flour, cashew nuts, Brazil nuts, walnuts.soy sauce, oils
Fridge- almond and oat milk, tofu, non dairy spread and yoghurt.
Freezer - peas, sweet corn, pita bread, wraps, sliced bread, spinach, ginger root, veggie sausages
Could make lots of curries. Chillis, tagines ,etc from the above , a few fresh ingredients like mushrooms, carrots, sweet potatoes, etc and it gets even easier.

I've always got the following:

in the cupboard - tins of tomatoes, baked beans, sweetcorn, peas, soups, custard, fruits, tuna and salmon. Jars of curry pastes, tomato puree, various herbs and spices. Packets of pasta, rice and noodles. Olive oil.

in my 'fridge - bacon, sausages, eggs, milk, garlic and cheese.

in the freezer - chicken breast fillets, salmon portions, fish fingers, braising steak, minced beef, broccoli, green beans, oven chips.

I've always got far more than I actually need, "just in case"

I can't eat anything acidic, so in my store cupboard there's always canned Beans, baked as well as Kidney & cannelloni . Olive Oil.. Dried pasta, canned fruit in juice not syrup , canned fish of various types in Spring water not Brine . Maldon Sea Salt & Black pepper

Always in the fridge are Eggs, Skimmed milk, butter , Mild cheese, .

Always in the freezer are Bags of veggies,.. broccoli , Cabbage, kale, Spinach , Parsnips , Potatoes

If the above was all I had in store I could make several good meals out of it

Liver and salt and pepper, so I've heard.

Cans of mixed beans, chick peas, rice, canned tomatoes, tomato paste, spices, pasta. In the fridge, cheese, milk, butter.

Rice, mince, spices

Tinned tomatoes, olive oil, mozzarella and pasta.

Bacon, eggs, potatoes, mushrooms

Pasta, tomato puree, philadelphia cheese and butter.

Ham, tuna or eggs to go with the above.
