I always remember a bottle of Youth Dew on my sisters dressing table, plus my brother used Aramis. My dad used Old Spice. grin
As a teenager I used Charlie & Cachet - I even remember the magazine adverts for those!
But I look back most fondly on the little pots of cream perfume from Avon. I think I had every one.

What did you wear in your youth?

Anyone remember Stevie B?

My friend and I both had Youth Dew perfume in our early twenties. Our friends ,including my later DH ( now late ) referred to it as ‘tarty perfume’. That name stuck for years after . Remembering it now I can’t believe we liked it even then. ?

Lily of the Valley when I was a teenager and student. Ma Griffe when I was 30-ish and it turned out, coincidentally, that this was the favourite of my sister and one of my cousins. My DS gave me Youth Dew one Christmas and I don't really like it - nothing youthful about it! Blue Grass and Je Reviens were favourites in the past.
Now, in old age, I love the Liz Earle range of fragrance and Jo Malone's Pomegranate Noire.

My all time favourites were Coty’s Smitty and Estee Lauder’s Cinnabar ❤️❤️ I also loved the old Avon scents: Elegance, Moonwind & Charisma. I got hold of old bottles from eBay and just one sniff takes me back decades!

Miss Dior & YSL Rive Gauche were my favourites. My step mil gave me Youth Dew every year, I used to take it to work and auction it. Sadly I can’t wear any perfume now as it sets off my hay fever

As a teenager it was Kiku, Aquamanda, and occasionally Charlie for me. When I left home at 17 I discovered O de Lancôme which is still a favourite today!

I loved Youth Dew until I became pregnant for the first time when the smell of it made me feel really nauseous. Never used it again. My mum always had Tweed and Coty perfumes.

Tabu, Blue Grass and Je Reviens! As a adult I wore Givenchy lll (Trois) till they stopped making it and then switched to Chanel No 5, which I am still on.

Helena Rubinstein’s Apple Blossom was my favourite in my early teens. I recently found a company in Australia who presumably bought the rights to the perfume, and I purchased some last year. Wearing it now brings back so many memories!

I remember buying that soap ditzyme. I can't remember what it was called either. My all time favourites which I used to buy in the early 1970's is 'Musk' and 'Ambergris' by Alyssa Ashley. I still have the spray in my bedroom draw of Ambergris and it still has it's smell. I wore this on my wedding day. ( divorced now sad )Gorgeous! I still love musk and have the Body Shop White Musk.

Je Reviens- was always my favourite, I can't stand very sweet and overwhelming perfume- now use a Dior with verbena.

Really enjoyed this thread. Remember a lot of the perfumes mentioned, but no-one mentions one I used to love when I was in my early twenties - Femme, by I think Roche. I seem to remember the pattern on the packet was a lace-like illustration, but I may be imagining this. Does anyone else remember this perfume?

Dad always used old spice and the smell evokes lots of fond memories nan always used 4711.
My first perfume was sea jade then annais annais followed by loulou in my mid 30s
Now I wear Gucci envy me which I love but it is getting harder to buy.

Avon perfumes - in those little pots! I liked Topaz, graduated to Blue Grass and then to Je Reviens, my lifetime favourite. Chanel no 5 when feeling wealthy - it's now well over £100 for a small bottle!

Kim19 Wed 10-Apr-19 14:15:31

Yep, Hartnell's In Love for me every time. Tried for it but sadly discontinued. Bought Je Reviens for a friend just recently.

B9exchange Wed 10-Apr-19 13:55:56

Avon Topaz was my favourite, I managed to find an old bottle on eBay a while back, and have a sniff every so often, takes me right back to my teenage days.

My mother loved Blue Grasse, I never liked it, but obviously the smell reminds me of her kissing me goodnight before she went out, on very rare occasions!

Used to like Charlie and L'Aimant, was using M and S Florentyna at the time of going into labour with DS1, so that always brings me back!

Also liked the Body Shop White Musk when the chain first opened, was given some lately for my birthday, love it, but it doesn't last long.

I used to struggle finding fragrances when I was much younger, I seem to dislike the majority of 'old' perfumes, apart from Charlie. The first one I really loved was Poison, not to everyone's taste. I have a good collection of fragrances now, my favurite being Viktor and Rolfe Flowerbomb

luluaugust Wed 10-Apr-19 13:40:25

For me it was Elizabeth Arden's Blue Grass and Youth Dew.

MooM00 Wed 10-Apr-19 13:27:55

My Mum loved White Fire and Evening In Paris. My first perfume was Avon Topaz and then when I started work Youth Dew. My then boyfriend liked Nine Flags they were 9 different fragrances each of a different country. I don't know if anyone remembers them.

My daughter brought back Fragonard for me from a holiday in France. I was no longer in the first flush of youth but it was a beautiful scent which lasted all day and people complimented me on it all the time. M & S stocked something called Fragonard at one time but it was nothing like the one I had. Had a wee look on line just now and it does seem still to be available but costs £60-£90!! Might give Coty L'Aimant another go.....

Mauriherb Wed 10-Apr-19 13:15:12

I used to love anais anais and Charlie. I have a couple of friends who wear youth dew and I find the smell overpowering these days

Fernbergien Wed 10-Apr-19 12:48:22

more, not 'mire'.

Rapunzel100 Wed 10-Apr-19 12:42:51

My signature perfume as a teenager was Lady Manhattan. I came across an unopened bottle, still in its box, a couple of years ago at a car boot sale. I just had to buy it and, oh, the memories when I opened it! I was transported straight back to first love in the 60s - smells are so powerful. I can’t bring myself to use it, but occasionally have a sniff when I want to wander down memory lane.
