Please don't tell me to go on a diet ( I am) or to buy clothes from Primark ( they look hideous)

Budget is small, bottom is large as are basookas. What to do?

I'd never heard of Kit n Kaboodle so took a look.
It's pretty much the sort of thing I'd wear. Love this one.

Magrithea you say that a loose shirt over a vest top makes you look bigger.

I think it depends on the fabric of the shirt. The fabric needs to fall and drape. For example, a heavy cotton wouldn't work.
Also the length has to be just right. Definitely longer ... short is a no no. And it has to be a shirt style, not a blouse worn open...... not that any of of GNs would do that.....

I buy a lot of my clothes from Sainsbury’s. good selection of designs and sizes. Even better when they have the 25% off sales.
My daughter got some nice tops from Morrison’s.

Sorry * phoenix* and others but a loose shirt over a vest top just makes you look bigger. A friend favours that look (she's generously proportioned) and it just makes her look bigger. Try maximising your assets and the hell with everyone's opinion!

I'd really like to look alternative and stylish at the same time.

Unfortunately I end up looking boring.

Badenkate:

"I would love to wear some pretty summer dresses and skirts, but the medicine I'm on makes my ankles and lower legs swell, and they look AWFUL. So I'm permanently in long trousers - even maxi dresses don't really work as I'm 5'10" and they usually stop just above the ankle on me sad"

I have oedematous feet and ankles due to failing heart . I find that trainers with laces halfway undone hide the swollen parts when worn with trousers or long skirt. I understand that this is trendy but I don't care.

There are clothes specially designed for tall ladies.

I just looked at the Adini website. Good suggestion. Sadly, every one of the tunics I fancied had sold out in my size!! So frustrating. I must have good taste though. smile

We have a Roman nearby. It's great. I had a lovely dress from there for a wedding last year.

GinJeannie Tue 23-Apr-19 17:15:46

I recently discovered ROMAN ladies clothing whose sizing fits me perfectly. ...they do 10-20. Very easy to order online and delivery within 2-3 days. They do have franchises in big stores and stand alone shops on UK. Fab quality. ..no, am not related in any way!

Sorry , that was Katyk

Sara65 Tue 23-Apr-19 16:48:23

Gone girl- I’ve got a lovely long black dress from Sahara if you fancy trying the look!

Gonegirl Tue 23-Apr-19 16:37:59

Boden are expensive. Although I bought a jacket from them a while back and it lasted years.

Gonegirl Tue 23-Apr-19 16:36:15

I saw an older lady walking in a field over Easter, with her little grandaughter. She had on wide-ish white trousers, the kind that fit in round the hems, slightly baggy and see-through, and a long sleeved top. She looked very "alternative" (was a posh, expensive, village) and I would love to look like that! But I just look ordinary. Wouldn't even know where to buy that sort f clothing. It didn't look cheap!

KatyK Tue 23-Apr-19 16:32:13

I wouldn't pay £60 personally unless it was for a special occasion.

Lily65 Tue 23-Apr-19 16:31:01

Adini looks promising and I know Seasalt and Boden are popular.

Is it me being hopelessly out of touch or is £60.00 plus a lot to pay for a top?

KatyK Tue 23-Apr-19 16:27:32

I used to love clothes. I knew what suited me (well I thought I did). Picking up on "Gonegirl* mentioning hair, when I lost all my hair my confidence and sense of style went completely as you can imagine. I didn't care what I wore but now I am trying to get 'me' back. I saw an elderly lady in Aldi today wearing a flowing black dress and a straw hat with a big pink flower on it. I'm going to be a bit more adventurous smile

Nannyxthree Tue 23-Apr-19 16:25:26

Another one here who misses East. I have seen some dresses in Seasalt (ie short sleeves and midi length) which I like and they do more sizes on line than you will find in their shops. Boden is worth a look too.

I don't know what's happened to my hair at the top. The back and sides seem ok, but the top is a strange fuzz. I think each hair has got finer. confused

Sandie51 Tue 23-Apr-19 16:01:47

Buffybee love your style. ?

Blinko Tue 23-Apr-19 15:54:52

Ooh, Sarah65, brilliant! Must try that one. I hate having my photo taken. I look like the wicked witch of the West. Can't be right, can it?

Hm999 Tue 23-Apr-19 15:54:27

White leg issue - Dove Tinted Nourishing Body Care (fair). Use every few days and will not turn you orange!

Sara65 Tue 23-Apr-19 15:14:57

I do agree with that! I tell my grandchildren that I can’t have my photo taken, because I think I’m gorgeous and young and thin, and it’s always a horrible shock to me, to see how the camera distorts my image

grandtanteJE65 Tue 23-Apr-19 15:10:04

I'm sure you DON'T look horrible, but I know the feeling.

In our mind's eye we are still twenty as far as looks go, or whatever age we think we looked best at. Then we look in the mirror and see an old woman with thinning hair, bags under her eyes and lines on her face. This is a word picture of ME. And we think, "Who is this old fright?"

You're on a diet, full marks for resolution, don't overdo it though, will you.

Finding clothes that look nice on women our age is a pain, as nothing in the shops looks good - they only cater for 17+ girls. Hope you find something nice to cheer you up in the nearest charity shop - the prices are right there!
