What counts as “old lady clothes” nowadays?

Our Waitrose is in a small country town, and believe me, you see all sorts in there, no uniform required!

We don't have a Waitrose in our area. Nearest is 40miles away. So I can't check out the clothes. We do have Tesco, Morrison, Lidl etc, so I will check those out. Probably find the ladies wearing the same sort of clothes as Waitrose ladies. One thing I have noticed since moving to SWWales the older ladies are very fashion conscious . They look smart, well groomed and happy.

not " virtue signaling" or being controversial "as per".....but many many people would find the prices of Boden et al totally and utterly out of their range, let alone a trip to Waitrose.

Honestly, I just don't care anymore , if you have £60 to spend on a stripey tee shirt, great.

I think too casual an outfit, baggy with wear, can age a woman eg trainers, leggings or trackers, puffs coat or jacket..

M&S had some lovely linen dresses this summer but the neckline V was too deep for me.

I prefer stylish, plain colours, linen Gabor shoes, single breasted raincoat or coat. Clean lines, not too much clutter and no stripes. Good haircut.

No dark colours either, I used to hide in black about 15 years ago.

But every woman has her own style.

Oh no it isn't. I shop in Waitrose, because it is a town centre shop and more convenient than the big out of town one and not only have I never have worn any of the clothes listed by eazybee, I cannot remember seeing any other customers dressed like that in there either. We are essentially as mixed a bunch of dressers as you would expect to see in any supermarket.

My contemporaries (and me) seem to share a uniform, usually from Seasalt, Boden, Crew & co, WhiteStuff, Mistral: narrow jeans, linen shirts, striped tops, gilets and loafers, or the current moshulu sandals. At one reading group meeting seven of us sported striped tops. This uniform is also standard for Waitrose shopping.

I'm very sorry but how do you actually live with yourself posting stuff like this?

Some of the most decent people I have ever met have the least and wear cheap, ill fitting clothes.

mrsmopp so old fashioned it is now trendily retro. Added fawn lisle stockings and sensible lace-up shoes and you are right up to the minute

Twinsets from Edinburgh Woollen Mill, worn with a nice brooch and pearls and a matching tartan skirt.

Blouses. Crimplene. Droopy cardigans. Quilted anoraks. Headscarves. Permed hair. Stockings.

I don’t think I’ve ever been exactly fashionable, so I don’t really feel I need to be now, but I like nice clothes, and I don’t want to look old ladyish yet.
My oldest daughter and I often unknowingly buy the same items, a bit grungy/hippyish, my younger is strictly what I think of as the Jack Wills look, wouldn’t be caught dead in our clothes.

Well having looked at the list I have to confess to: fleece, dresses with white cardi and the odd pair of comfort shoes but I think that I am quite up to date! On the whole that is.

I'm 70 and I wear whatever I like. Skinny jeans, suede ankle boots with a heel, anything that takes my fancy. Sometimes I catch a glimpse of myself in a mirror and think 'what were you thinking?' I bought a shirt recently and my very fashion conscious teenage granddaughter went out and bought the same one.

Summer clothes, because they are usually years old and out of date because they have had so little wear: flowing denim skirts, wide linen trousers and smock tops.

I had a maternity smock glamma. I really liked it. I think it's a shame they don't wear them nowadays. Feminine.

Yes! Cotton traders and Seasalt. SLIGHTLY worried because I liked a couple of Seasalt bits this summer. It's a slippery slope.

I was driving back from the supermarket this afternoon and drove past an old couple and I MEMORISED their outfits to relay to you!

Matching fleeces BUT one in red and one in blue. Both wearing beige trousers. Both wearing trainers. She had a cross body bag. Old.
