I am not a hat person. They don't suit me. Who is going to care if you wear it or not? Go for it, you obviously like it. Wear it with pride.

I love hats, especially trilbys.

I used to wear mine with a large, dark coat. My hair was underneath. I'd wear it at a tilt so that one eye was kind of covered. I'd paint my lips dark red according to the fashion of the day. I thought I was cool.

Slightly off topic but I was out shopping the other day in Bromley and a lady was coming towards me in very fancy red hat (think weddings). I think she had a purple coat on but not sure as mainly looking at the hat - then it dawned on me! She was a member of the Red Hat Society heading towards a meet up. How exciting - I did envy her as she was walking with such panache and purpose. grin

It sounds lovely. Just wear it whenever you like - and enjoy ?

Oh, I think you should wear it with pride. Just the colour to wear in this dull winter climate of ours.
I like yours, too, Eglantine21, and hope you will wear it.
Both of you, go with your instincts. Your instinct was to buy, so therefore, wear! (It doesn't matter a fig what anyone else thinks, and to be honest, who is likely to come up to you and say anything? More than likely, most people will like what they see, even if they don't say so).

I wish I could wear hats - they usually look wonderful on other people, but until recently I didn't think they suited me and they 'electrified' my hair when taking them off. I have bought ( but never worn) berets, cloches, knitted hats, and once a gorgeous dark green velvet wide brimmed hat that I never wore. I think that was because I am fairly short in height and wear glasses.

Last winter however I did buy a 'baker's boy' floppy cap from M and S in dark navy blue, which I liked on me with my trusty navy walking coat. Maybe its getting older that means I am more comfortable wearing one as my head gets colder nowadays. I still get electric hair though.

what hairstyles work best with hats?

Do you remember when ladies kept their hats on indoors when visiting? They'd take off their coat but leave on the hat and also sometimes the silk scarf. Probably also extended their little finger when drinking tea!

The hats are lovely - definitely wear them whenever you feel like it.

The thing about hats is just to wear them, as nonchalantly as you can. You will soon feel quite comfortable, and if people look at you it will be because they think you look stylish.

Sounds great. I tried on a navy one the other week and liked it a lot. However it was a bit big which is unusual for me. Wear it walking the dog, out to lunch etc. It will soon stop feeling so new. Enjoy your new hat.

Just wear it when you are out for your walks. I wear whatever I feel like at that particular time. Enjoy! x

Its very nice though

Luckygirl Sun 27-Oct-19 11:53:33

That's cute! I admire hat wearers - mine usually blow off in the wind, or leave me with serious hat hair for the rest of the day.

I now where sheepskin earmuffs when out in the cold - not as elegant as the pink hat!

Eglantine Dont forget your undercrackersgrin

You’re worried about royal blue?

Here’s yesterday’s impulse buy?

(I hope. I don’t really know how to do this)

SirChenjin Sun 27-Oct-19 10:38:06

It’s patently obvious that the gorgeous trilby simply needs the right jacket - one that I would suggest requires a further shopping trip.

jaylucy Sun 27-Oct-19 10:34:56

Not wear a hat in the country? Round here there are many people that wear various hats when out dog walking!
Wear it for the original reason - to keep your head warm and enjoy it!

Oopsminty Sun 27-Oct-19 10:31:35

Quite agree with glammama.

glammanana Sun 27-Oct-19 10:30:33

The trilby hat is very much in fashion at the minute Digging and you could wear it everyday when walking your dogs with any out door coat or waxed jacket drape a blue scarf loosely for more effect if you feel like it,very cool gran.

Diggingdoris Sun 27-Oct-19 10:25:01

I am always drawn to anything blue, and yesterday I bought a royal blue trilby hat. I thought it rather nice on me and have loads in my wardrobe to wear it with. But now I'm thinking when am I going to wear it? I live in a country village and rarely get dressed up. I'm out everyday walking the dog and I would look very overdressed wearing it then, as I would going round the supermarket. So I'm thinking it was a stupid impulse buy. Anyone out there got one they wear?
