Has anyone tried the "twist & snip" on their fringe?

phoenix - it used to be called a 'pudding basin' haircut - DIY.
I use the method described by lemon on page 1.
But the problem I have is, looking in the mirror, you need to reverse what you see or I miss the bit I'm aiming for.

done the twist and snip, great success, thanks, hadn't heard of that way to trim my fringe before!

I wouldn’t recommend the twist and snip, or any other method for that matter, being done late at night after a few glasses of wine. Lets just say it wasn't quite the look I was aiming for!

Can’t you use a magnifying mirror phoenix. Or would the shock be too much ? (mine always frightens the life out of me ?)

Thanks for the advice luckygirl. I won’t be using them on my fringe as it is a thin wispy one. I have tons of hair and a proper fringe would look like Claudia Winkleman and I couldn’t bear the weight. I have bought the thinning scissors for my top layer of hair. My longer hair is shoulder length then I have another layer just below my ears. So that it doesn’t look like a clumsy wedge, that layer needs thinning.

Difficult to do your eyebrows when you need glasses.

Glasses on, identify hairs that need plucking.I

Remove glasses, grasp tweezers, pluck.

Put glasses back on, check, note next ones that need plucking.

Remove glasses, grasp tweezers again, pluck again.

Put glasses back on, look in mirror, and either gasp or sigh.

Repeat as required.

As long as you don't have a comb over, grumppa!

Very intrigued, I started to read the thread. Then I realised I had misread fringe as fridge. Whatever, I am just letting it grow.

Word of advice about the thinning scissors - do not simply cut with them. I very gently sweep them down my fringe, not closing them all the way. Seems to work - but maybe I am just a coward.

Well my thinning scissors have arrived. I will try them tomorrow. Today I decided to cut an inch off my top layer of hair. It would have been easier if I was a contortionist but I managed ok and it doesn’t look too bad. So tomorrow I will try adding some layers. ?

If you go on Youtube it shows you how to cut your own hair. I've done it and I'd never cut hair before. Did a really good job.

I have two hair slides to hold my fringe in place to each side. As l teach on Zoom l have to look reasonably presentable and l can't achieve this if my hair is in my eyes. It's not a look l would have chosen but needs must and l am far too cowardly to try cutting it myself.

When I tried the twist and snip method on my fringe, I didn't realise that you are meant to keep cutting as you twist so I just hacked off a lump at the end of the 'twist' and ended up with a bonkers looking holey fringe - I'll stick to snipping in future!

I usually wear my hair in a pixie style and my hairdresser daughter me how to trim it myself while I was travelling and couldn't find a hair dresser. I have trimmed my fringe using the the snip upwards method rather than the staight across method. The layer of hair on the rest of my head are lifted up with my finger and the same amount cut off each piece. I also use the snip upwards method as I think it gives a more choppy look. However, saying all this I have decide to just leave my hair as its an ideal chance to see what I look like with long hair but I have done my fringe I have a pair of thinning scissors and they are excellent.

Fortunately, I don't have a fringe. It's the length in general that is going to be a problem.

Also fortunately, I had it cut just before the lockdown. It is now approaching the stage where I look like Andy Warhol's big sister, and a visit to the hairdressers would be on the cards. If it goes beyond that, I become Gandalf the Grey, and that is not a good look.

I am pretty sure that trying to cut my own hair would end in disaster. I am utterly clack-handed and get confused over right and left when I look in the mirror. My DH has gleefully offered to give me a trim when required. I would rather shave it all off than walk around with the results of a husbandly hair cut.

Oh well, better go and gather up those hobbits...

Haven't heard of the twist and snip. What I do is comb my fringe into place (wet) then just snip upwards into it, only going in minuscule lengths. I do not ever cut straight across. I do this every couple of weeks and it seems to be keeping it in check.

I think my thinking scissors are coming today. Just hope my thinning scissors come with them ?.

I didn't get past the eye brows bit. I don't get that. Do you not pluck them?

Yes. I do it all the time as I don’t want a blunt straight fringe. I twist it into a little pony tail in the middle and snip into it. It’s easy to snip into straggling clumps once you let it go. I do tie my hair tightly back when I cut it though, because it would be easy to accidentally twist in longer side pieces!

You do the twist and snip and give your fringe a nip. Do the twist and snip, you don’t need a clip .. to be sung to the shake and vac tune, if you are old enough to remember that ?
