During lockdown I had a good sort of the bathroom and also the product stash I keep under my bed. So many things out of date or simply not suitable for me anymore. blush I tend to get in a rut using just soap and water for a bit, and then have a spurt of buying into a new regime and not sticking to it. I've recently tried Liz Earle cleanser which I quite enjoy and I think my face is feeling smoother and...cleaner?

When it comes to makeup I do tend to stick to a light foundation (incl spf) and then just mascara and a soft coloured lippy. But I want to start making more of an effort. My daughter recommends things to me but I'm not convinced they're right for my age (or colouring, she has olive skin and I'm very fair).
Where do you go for skincare or makeup? Are there any brands/products you swear by? If you have the time please add a link so I can find the exact thing you're talking about and don't have to guess. Often products have very similar things in the same range and it gets confusing. Thanks in advance. smile

Wake.... I’ll look that up thank you for the tip.

I think it's all a matter of personal choice and budget and it depends on what you are trying to achieve. If it's lines or wrinkles, the only product that has been shown to make a real difference is Retin-A which needs a prescription. I've tried retinol (a weaker version of Retin- A) creams and they help - Boots No 7 is good. Nivea is also great!

I would recommend Neals Yard Remedies and Liz Earle products.

I used Boots No 7 for years but the changes in formulation started to make my eyes itchy and sore.
I now use Aldi caviar face creams and their hot cloth cleanser.
All lovely products and saved me a fortune.

I find Balance Me has good, natural products in the mid price range. I don't like lotions or creams that are stongly or artificially perfumed and their products all have lovely smells. It's a UK company, easy to order from their web-site and some products are sold in Sainsbury's. In fact their basic moisturiser is £16 just now(from £24) in Sainsbury's. They have anti-ageing products as well in their range.

Is anyone else finding that so much of the make up that they put on every morning ends up on their face mask? Any suggestions - other than don't wear any make up?

I’ve recently swapped to Elemis, I’m finding it gentle and really moisturising for my ageing skin, it has a bit of a glow now also the products smell wonderful

L’ordeal or Boots no 7 does the trick for me. I only use a night cream occasionally, as don’t believe in clogging pores up too much, even with so called miracle creams. I also like to have makeup free days if I’m not going out anywhere

Yes I agree Boots No 7 and L’Oreal day and night cream called Winkle Expert. Comes in over 45,55 and 65 ages. Don’t get the day cream near your eyes it stings! The night cream, for some reason doesn’t.
I use L’Oreal mascara as the Boots ones seem to make my eyes itch

What is Winkle Expert designed to do? gringringrin

I've always just used Nivea, the blue cold cream for night and the soft for day as it makes a good base for powder (I only use face powder and mascara).

My skin seems to be holding up quite well in general. Lots of water helps

This is online, but I’ve been pleased with Beauty Pie products so far. I’m in my 60s and have sensitive and dry skin. I like that they do no animal testing, their packaging is eco friendly and they use minimum chemicals/preservatives. I pay £5 a month for a monthly membership, to get the lower prices.

I swear by Elizabeth Arden Advanced Ceramide Capsules which I've used for several years now and really notice the difference if I stop. They're a little expensive but are usually on special offer around Christmas with free goodies, so I stock up for the year.
Just to say that Caroline Hirons does recommend Pixi cleanser that she developed for them. I like the fact that she admits that she uses botox and fillers and eyelash extensions etc. I'll wait for her book to reduce in price somewhat before buying.

I am a great believer in beauty coming from within. Accordingly, I only use organic aloe vera gel to moisturise my skin in the morning.
But for a flawless complexion, try a supplement, grown in the UK, of sea buckthorn, from the British Sea Buckthorn company.
After the farm was featured on BBC Country File, and the benefis of this unusual berry were explained, I have been using it ever since.
The farmer had been in the Andes and after a day of climbing, felt very ill with altitude sickness. One of the local guides gave him the berries of sea buckthorn, and the next morning he felt so well that he looked into the known effects of taking it.
He was so impressed that he turned over his farm to the cultivation of sea buckthorn, which is very hard to harvest because when ripe, the berry bursts.
Eventually their research has led to a solution, by freezing a whole stem containing the berries.
If you prefer the whole untreated berry, it can be bought on Ebay in its original form.
I recommend it for a beautiful complexion, and if you look it up, it has many other benefits for your system too.

SBC which I get from QVC. They have a wide range of products all those I have tried have been excellent and very economical too

Another one for E45 - I use the daily cream as the lotion is a bit too thick. I’ve tried everything over the years, including most of the expensive ones but they all made my face red and blotchy. The worst was Boots Perfect and Perfect. It was expensive for the small tube you were buying and I had to throw it away as it irritated my skin. I don’t wash my face and use it as both a cleanser and moisturiser. It’s the only thing that works for me.

For make-up, I tend to go for the more expensive brands like Mac or Charlotte Tillbury as they tend to last longer. The latter is SO expensive so if anyone was thinking of trying it out I would suggest a trial (if you’re able to when we are back to normal) by one of their consultants at one of the larger department stores. I had a trial at House of Fraser in Manchester and found the perfect foundation for my skin tone. Her lipsticks have a nice creamy texture and the colours are nice too. I find, when I need to replenish, that I can find what I want a lot cheaper on eBay. (Brand new, unopened of course!)

Dibbydod my mum always used Nivea cream, and so have I. We both have had compliments about our skin, into our old age, though mum is long gone. If a company has survived as long as Nivea has, they must be doing something right!
I never buy expensive beauty items, and use little make-up, so can’t recommend anything. Maybe not coating myself in make-up is one of the reasons why my skin is still good!

Humbertbear

I use No 7 skincare and make up. I’ve used it for years and they have different skincare ranges for different ages. I also like LOreal foundation.

I also like L'oreals foundation. +1.

Personally if you can afford it use salon skin care and make up. I've tried everything but find they are the best. I've been disappointed in all the chemist and department ones that advertise great results and don't deliver.

A vote from me for Nivea Soft.

I‘Ve just bought the Caroline Hirons Skincare book. Great advice for all ages.
Also take a look at pamperedwolf on YouTube. She is great and uses her mum who is 66 to demonstrate skincare and makeup for more mature ladies.

The best thing anyone can do is to use a cream with a high SPF . I have issues with highly perfumed products due to asthma, so have used Simple products. Bought new one to try called protect'n' glow with factor 30, but there is something not right with it because when I rub it in, it flakes. I would certainly welcome any suggestions for a cream with little or no scent with an SPF of 30.

Lancslass1 Sat 11-Jul-20 12:37:25

My neighbour who is 98 always uses Olay .
She says she never washes her face so I presume she uses a form of cleanser.
Her skin looks great .
I tend to use what is on offer.
My favourite is Body Shop vitamin C Skin reviver.
For years I used Johnson's baby lotion for everything.
As long as your skin is being moisturised I reckon that is good enough.

lilydily9 Sat 11-Jul-20 12:27:37

You've made a good start with Liz Earle cleanse & polish. I've used her products for many years and can't recommend them enough. Try her Brightening Treatment Mask, it really works! I only use foundation on special occasions and Clinique's BB-gel hydratant works for me. To add colour to my face without the use of makeup, I use Tan-Luxe self-tan drops for the face. You add a couple of drops to your moisturiser. You can buy them via QVC. Hope this helps!

Elemis Cleansing Balms are pretty unbeatable. Their moisturisers are gorgeous too. L’Occitaine is also lovely. Both are expensive. However, Allbeauty.com and Lookfantastic.com have sales on Elemis fairly regulary and bargains can be picked-up elsewhere. L’Occitaine is rarely discounted and their own sales tend not to include anything from their facial products range.
