Fashionable but not mutton dressed as lamb

Can I ask everyone what type of trainers or casual shoes do you wear ? I like to be fashionable but don’t want to look as though I’m trying to be too trendy at 60 .

janeainsworth I always wear Camper trainers and my last ones were red. Their sales are the best time to get if you know your size & fit. I think they are super cool whatever your age.

Lucca I got some trainers in an animal print, in my usual size. So looking forward to wearing them. They arrived this morning - massive! I couldn’t keep them on my feet even if fastened up very tight. So, they have to go back unfortunately but we go on holiday tomorrow and evidently I’ve got to wait to hear from them before I can put them in the post! Oh lummy! My husband is going to love that “will you go round by the post office please?”

Btw, has anyone any suggestions for stockists for those ‘magic’ socks which everyone but me seems to be able to wear but that don’t ruckle up uncomfortably under your instep? I’ve bought loads but can’t bear them. Even ordinary socks do it when I’m wearing trainers!

Spangler Sorry I've just got round to reading this thread again! I wish you could get some notification if someone mentions you! I LOVE those shoes!! grin

I got these from Camper but in grey. I’m very pleased with them.

I don’t think ‘mutton dressed as lamb’
really applies to shoes unless you’re planning to totter about on 5 inch heels with two-inch platforms.
I just wear what’s comfortable for what I’m doing, and what goes with the clothes I’m wearing.

If anyone is tempted (and they are very, very comfortable), I’d suggest trying a size smaller than your usual.

Ever since someone mentioned Allbirds trainers here I’ve been getting adverts for them on my FB newsfeed ?

Oh, sorry, that was me, tanith.

I’m not on commission, honest! Not even sure I recommend them when I look at my feet in them. I could always take up grape crushing....

Amazon do loads of footless tights and I think I saw some in Tesco

Susieboo. Wonderful thread. Lots of interesting stuff for me to look at. Your problem seems to be that you are at ‘that difficult age” ?. If you were quite a bit older, you would wear your clothes with great flair and panache and not give a damn about what anyone thought. Just go for it, as long as it’s not try too hard, you’re going to stay up to date and look great!

Sallywally I am at my wits’ end, trying to find wide enough and stylish shoes of any kind. My DH is the same. We even thought that we could go and have a last made so that we could then have perfect shoes for imperfect feet! Last costs about £2,000. Each pair of hand made shoes costs about £1,000 plus. Maybe not! The depressing search continues whilst we live in sandals and Birkenstocks.

Please someone tell me where I can buy footless tights online?

Another Skechers fan here. So comfortable

timetogo2016 Tue 28-Jul-20 09:32:58

Clarkes and Timberland.
Comfort comes first and they are good value.
Had some pairs for years.

Sallywally1 Tue 28-Jul-20 09:30:45

Hotter sandals in summer and hotter boots in winter!

I did buy some lovely brown leather sandals from M&S this summer though. I a, awkward and need a half size and have wide feet. I can’t wear ordinary shoes. I wish the shoe people would make more footwear in wide fittings, the range is often quite narrow which is annoying.

Hetty58 Tue 28-Jul-20 09:24:37

susieboo, at 60, getting shoes that protect and are comfortable seems far more important than 'fashion'.

I like Merrell trainers for long walks, Fitflops in different styles for short trips - and have a range of Fitflop/Skechers indoor-only ones too.

I like to keep my toes covered these days (as old toes are just ugly).

I love trainers ... and ankle boots. Bought these during lockdown to cheer me up.

I'm with eazybee. I think they're horrible things. Mine are older than they should be and only worn for exercise. I used to have a couple of pairs of Converse, which can be ok (IMO) if they're plain, but my daughter nicked them.

eazybee Mon 27-Jul-20 15:43:02

I loathe trainers and only possess one pair for Keep Fit (Nike?).
Ballerina flatties: Ecco and Moshulu; Loafers and deck shoes: Moshulu and Crew Clothing, Brasher boots/shoes for walking.

Converse, Adidas and Nike. Is it time to grow up??? shock shock

Never! I wear what I like and don't give a fig of what others think or say. Each to their own.

Lucca Mon 27-Jul-20 15:06:36

Just by the way I bought two pairs of shoes in m and s yesterday. One pair (red )£13.99. One pair (pink)£2.89..?!

Luckylegs

I can’t read these threads. I’ve just HAD to buy some Superga trainers! The Allbirds are out of my range or I’d have had them as well. Now, I’ve got to look out for the emails to move them safely into a file and then the delivery and hide all evidence!

Oh what colour ?

Nortsat Mon 27-Jul-20 15:01:04

I have a black glitter pair of trainers, which I bought in House of Fraser. I don’t wear them that often.

I have some nice flat shoes from Moshulu, some more dressy ones and some everyday ones.

I do fancy the ballet flats, Rosalyn.

Maggiemaybe Mon 27-Jul-20 13:53:34

I’ve just bought some Allbirds Tree Runners. They’re so comfortable and I’ve had compliments on them, but I’m not convinced. My feet aren’t the daintiest but I think these make them look like boats. grin

Rosalyn69 Mon 27-Jul-20 13:52:58

I have sketchers and converse but other brandS too. I do like shoes. My luxury is a pair of Allbirds ballet flats. The most comfortable shoes I have ever worn.

Lucca Mon 27-Jul-20 13:51:09

Superga. I have rose gold ones and pink ones and also wear them with Zara dresses and I do so after checking with offspring that I am not MDAL. I like Ecco too but sooooo expensive.

But Nike and brooks for sport.
