Summer feet - autumn/winter shoes?

My much loved, probably 9 or 10 year old canvas trainers have finally worn out ? So, I’ve a new pair of canvas trainers, ordered online, they fit fine, but I know the heels are going to rub and am dreading it. So, today, I’ll don some thick socks, hope no one rings the door and start the process! Not an elegant look!
Shoes..hate them, summer is barefoot or flip flops..

Birkies cause me endless pain. I live in FitFlops (not flip flops) all summer and they have some lovely shoes for dressier occasions.
It is absolute bliss wearing them. I just wish they were more affordable.

CanadianGran, you have enlightened me, I had no idea what Birkies are, other than deducing that it's some sort of footwear.

Same problem here, not looking forward to winter footwear. But in February I had a gel pedicure (for a special holiday) but then could not get it removed professionally or buy the stuff to do at home. Eventually the gel fell off by itself leaving my poor nails in a dry and flaky mess. I started applying liberal amounts of cuticle oil to repair the damage. Imagine my horror whilst having a dental checkup that I looked at my feet. I’d only been on the beach with my granddaughter moments before and with sand stuck to toes looked liked I’d not washed in months. shock

I think all us Birkenstock wearers have the same problem. I found Joseph Seibel shoes were easy on my feet for winter. However I think they have discontinued the ones I like. So I have bought a pair of Clarks 'Funny Dream' ( great name ) They look wide enough to fit my summer feet. I do wear Birkies indoors in the winter though.

Maw... yes birkies in the snow!

Sheepskin - lined Birkies! The ultimate in luxury - but they don’t come cheap do they?

Yes, I agree there’s definitely a summer spread that shrinks again with colder weather. Been going through my shoes today. The majority will be OK, sadly those not accommodating the vagaries of osteoarthritic feet have left the building, quite sad to see some go, shoe choices are very limited now for someone loving colourful shoes.

If my right foot remains swollen I'll have to wear the box that the shoes came in grin I've never known it so bad.

I agree. Colder weather will solve it.

My feet always spread over the summer due to the lack of structured shoes. Come colder weather it takes about a week until my winter shoes are comfy again. I just wear the shoes in question and feet contract.

Grrr! shoe repair shops not flaming show repair shops!

Chewbacca Tue 18-Aug-20 21:31:56

Have you tried some of that spray shoe stretcher Maw? You can get it in show repair shops and shoe shoe shoos for about £5.00. Just spray it all around the inside if your shoes and immediately slip your feet into them and the shoes stretch slightly to fit your foot. Might be worth a try?

I was thinking that too, maw.

Marydoll Tue 18-Aug-20 20:12:19

Maw I found that too the other day, when I tried to put on a brand new pair of loafers, I bought in the sale months ago.
I couldn't get my feet into them. sad

However, I have found that as the temperature drops in Autumn , my feet seem to become less puffy.

I have spent most of the last five months in my faithful Birkenstock Arizonas or trainers, but this morning I wanted to wear a pair of “smarter” shoes - and I struggled.
My feet seem to have spread and I certainly can’t afford to replace all my shoes (or even worse my ankle boots!) so do I hobble round the house in an attempt to break my feet in again and get used to proper shoes?
All my shoes are/were the right size and width , having got rid of any that were less than comfortable.
