Has anyone else felt that they have let them self go a bit during this time?
I always used to put on make up and cared about I dressed.
I seem to live in lounge and comfortable clothing now.
Buying online for clothes has not been a good experience. Must always check that it’s free postage to return items!
I really don’t want to get old before my time, arghhh!

Slack Alice, wasn't that a fictional friend of Larry Grayson?

Riverwalk At the bottom of the slippery slope is where the fun’s to be had. There’s a little group of us Slack Alices having a ball. No ?allowed. grin

Sandra she will remind me to make the effort by saying” standards darling standards!”
That reminds me of the mother of an Australian friend who would look stern & say ‘There's no reason ever to lower your standards!’ ?

Sandrahill
That's me!! standards darling, standards ?

I think slobbing around in nightwear and tracky bottoms is the slippery slope!

I barely wear much make in normal times and recently have hardly put on lipstick as it comes off on the mask, been using clear lip salve instead.

I swing between chilling out and dressing up. I gave a lovely friend who always looks fab- she will remind me to make the effort by saying” standards darling standards!” ?

Your friend isn't my wife perchance? Her stock answer when asked why she's always so well turned out is: "One has standards darling."

Not so much let myself go as let myself be myself? I am retired anyway so weather dependant clothing jeans and boots in winter, shorts and sandals in summer. Obviously dress up if going to anything special ( pre covid !! ). The one thing I am doing is not colouring my hair, its had no dye since 13th March, silvers are coming through- about 4 inches of growth now. Its growing soft and healthy, just seeing were this goes, if I dont like it then back to the dye.

I have loved wearing comfy clothes to work from home. I definitely don’t see the point of wearing makeup just to be in the house. What’s the point?

Where do some of you live hoodies, gilet Although it's dark we still have the garden doors open ?

I have been quite hot today!
We did shut the doors at about 9pm. (midges)

Yes, I was just thinking that today as I dressed for a lovely lunch. Ages since I had smartened up. I do the basic daily shower but then just go into clean but scruff gear as I'm in and out of the garden and indulging in a bit of home improvement. None of this would be happening if my social life was 'normal'. I recognise my relaxed attitude but it doesn't bother me a bit. Makes sense actually.

Getting rather chilly here in the NW MerylStreep! A heavy dew on the lawns in the morning and a distinct smell of autumn in the air.

Marydoll Thu 10-Sept-20 20:17:16

It's blooming cold here in Glasgow tonight, MerylStreep. I'm thinking of getting my fur coat out. wink

I too have been living in elastic waisbands and sweatshirts, since I started shielding.
Today, I had a doctor's appointment and got dressed up, full make up etc. I didn't recognise myself. grin

It's so easy to do comfy.

Jeans with Lycra!

Chewbacca Thu 10-Sept-20 19:39:57

Waistband extenders are the work of angels. These are on Amazon if you're unable to get to JL.

I’m laughing at the idea of a Slack Alice thread because it means something different to DH and myself. When I had my first baby - coincidentally 45 years ago today - I needed some stitches. A lovely young lady doctor told me she would do it very carefully because I wouldn’t want a slack Alice when I was older! Still laugh about the expression today.

MissAdventure Thu 10-Sept-20 19:28:56

Where are they tight, Iam?
If it's just the waist you could use a bit of elastic to extend the button hole. smile

Greeneyedgirl Thu 10-Sept-20 19:17:34

Yes I second that Iam lets have a Slack Alice thread. Discover the REAL you. Freedom awaits when the constraints of smart clothes and slap.....er makeup isn’t required.

Chewbacca Thu 10-Sept-20 18:44:25

I've been working from home today and didn't actually get dressed! Afer I'd had my shower this morning, I put my slouchy pants and a hoodie on. When I had a Zoom meeting this afternoon, I just turned the camera off and no one was any the wiser! grin feeling relaxed

Jane10 - please start a Slack Alice thread. I suspect it will be very popular.
I ventured out today and had my first spending spree since February 2020. I bought -new duvet cover and pillow slips for our bed, a loose black top for hanging out in, some cosy silk/wool knee length socks, a cake, a jigsaw and a pair of jeans. Everything is wonderful. The jeans are too tight. I readily accept Ive spread a little during lockdown but, I bough exactly the same jeans (Levi if your'e bothered) I've been wearing for three years. I bought black as my originals are blue. The blue fit perfectly, the black are too tight. This is tedious because it means a trip back to JL to swop. Of course we can't try on. I did see some thick black leggings/jogging pants, with an elasticated waist. They're singing to me - I know they'll fit. As I rarely leave the house these days, do I need new jeans or shall I in my new Slack Alice moe, simply accept I'll never wear a bra or a pair of snug jeans, ever again.

Lipstick, mascara and perfume every morning- can't face the day without it

MissAdventure Thu 10-Sept-20 18:30:23

Well, in a way, going fresh faced, uncoloured or enhanced, not pushed up or flattened down, is taking pride in your appearance. In your real one. smile
