Winter coats/jackets

I treated myself to a cashmere coat after I had my baby. I’ve still got it but it’s not been worn in a long time. My baby is now 35 yrs old. I don’t always get a new coat/jacket every year but I hang on to what I love.

I have a black Super-dry padded knee length coat which is wonderfully warm bought 3yrs ago, a Ted Baker cream/pink short coat that DH bought me for Xmas 2yrs ago, used for best but not used much this year so far (!) and a medium blue Regatta anorak with separate fleece lining which I wear when going for walks, which is about 11yrs old.

My oldest coat is probably about 12 years old. It's a heavy woollen one with a large red & cream houndstooth pattern. It was a Per Una second for which I paid £15 & almost every time I wear it, someone admires it & asks where it's from. I love it. At the other end of the scale I have a full length coat by Guinea, made of pure wool Yorkshire blue tweed with a mauve line check. It has a mauve velvet collar & cuffs, is very fitted with a vent at the back. It too is often admired, it cost a fortune but I rarely wear it as it's very posh & not very warm! DH bought it for me & it is good for the races! In between I have a M&S quilted zip up padded jacket, a Goretex jacket I inherited from my mum & a quilted navy Aquascutum jacket ditto. I actually don't really like wearing coats, I'm not a winter person - roll on Spring!

Too many to mention ?. Different ones for different occasions. My oldest has been handed down through the family, it’s a 3/4 sheepskin, but the woolly side is on the outside, back in fashion atm.
It’s completely wind and weather proof, I now know why sheep are not phased by bad weather!

I have a faux fur golden brown, well padded duffle coat which saved me from damage when I slipped on ice last winter, makes me look like a perambulating teddy bear, but I love it. 3/4 black and white tweedy wool coat for in the car. 3/4 faux snow leopard for dressy occasions, looks great over trousers or long skirts. Black calf length wool coat for funerals and sad occasions. Fleeces of varying styles for everythiing else.

Yes, paperbackwriter, your one the moths got was my dream. Remember struggling between that and a Burberry Mac. Mac won and I still have it in regular use 40 years on. Don't actually hanker after one any more but I remember the yearning. Happy days!

I've got quite a few, all several years old but I mostly only wear a couple regularly.
A 3/4 length brown tweed with velvet collar
A burnt orange boiled wool
A black fitted knee length with flared skirt
A black/grey tweedy loose fitted coat
A long brown waxed drovers coat
A black waterproof parka with fur trimmed hood
A black hooded puffa coat, very warm as its stuffed with down
A couple if fleece jackets
A long waterproof lightweight packa Mac
An ankle length embroidered wool evening coat ( rarely worn)
A short swing coat in black boiled wool with a swirly pattern, a favourite.
Can't remember any more although I know there are a few jackets lurking about.
The only ones I wear on a regular basis are the parka, the packa Mac and the black/ grey tweed loose fit one.

I love coats! I have two down type (but both eco, so probably not actually down- one Rab and one Haglofs; a North Face ski coat; a Paramo walking coat (the best investment I’ve ever made); a Howies gilet; a Seasalt Planthunter; a Gandys windcheater, and a sort of dress coat from Principals, which I rarely wear. My husband is very strict about one in, one out, after my coat collection took over. These are all worn fairly regularly, as I live in the Forest of Bowland and get weathered on a good deal .

I have a similar passion for comfortable shoes to cope with weather too.

I have a very expensive black formal cost I bought for my husband funeral this year. I charitied my other black coats then. I have a padded country jacket for drier cooler days, a lovely joules padded hooded coat for cold outings (not many this year) dog walking waterproof gear (2 jackets and waterproof trousers) plus a denim style jacket for the summer. Most are under 6 years old as I had a clear out (gained weight ).

My winter one is a roomy wool/mohair mix which I bought in a sale 20 years ago for £16. Big enough to cover plenty of woolies. It's showerproof too - you just shake it when you come in.
Summer - a yellow polycotton midicoat, from M&S 25 years ago. And now have an M&S navy jacket for in between days.
I don't like spending money on clothes these days - they're such rubbish quality.
A couple of years ago I bought some good Irish tweed and made a winter coat, I sometimes wear that though it looks a bit amateurish.

I have a beautiful deep red extra long Seafolly jacket from Seasalt. It’s my favourite, every time I wear it I get compliments. It’s very warm so winter wear only.

I've got 12 and I don't think that's too many for various weather/occasions. So now I've got to buy another two or give one away. What to do!

A navy with white spots raincoat plus hood, Milletts, a fleece, a very warm lined fleece with hood, 8e from a French market. Old, but serviceable M&S coat, it was waterproof once, light quilted jacket from Asda and a faux fur jacket, again from France, which I wear with a Fedora on rare occasions.

So many that I wouldn’t know where to start but time for the a visit to a charity shop I think.
I have a beautiful taupe colour coat which I bought in Paris many years ago now when we were staying with friends who were living there at the time. It has those very wide padded shoulders that went out of fashion years ago but I hang on to it and I like to take it out of the wardrobe and have a look at it every now and again.
Our lovely friend died last year.

I have a small number of coats. My most expensive I bought a few years ago in a local shop and when the buttonholes started to fray I went back and was told that 'Madam this coat is not meant to be worn every day!'. Needless to say they repaired the buttonholes.

My oldest - is probably about 15 years old? It was from Primark and cost £10, Its reversible black fleece one side waterproof t'other. It is wonderfully warm and waterproof. Iusually wear a colourful anorak I bought from Sainsburies. I have a black padded coat and a green 'pilot' jacket. Probably a few others, Oh yes, my big fluffy jacket, cream faux sheepskin with a furry lined hood - perfect for snow and ice. Must get it down in case a flake of snow appears!! I did take my genuine sheepskin to a charity shop

I have a dark orange wool coat from Hobbs, although at the moment I’m just shoving my Barbour on if I need to pop out. I miss having a reason to wear my vast selection of blazers - tried it at home and it just didn’t work...

I donated 2 winter coats/jackets to a local charity that my neighbour was collecting for.
I now have a nice red wool jacket, a warm lined orange fur trimmed jacket with a hood & my old dog walking Berghaus water proof jacket which cost a fortune years ago but was used so often when we had dogs- it is totally weatherproof.
I think they cover all occasions.

I have a few winter coats/jackets for different occasions - black coat for smart occasions and funerals, burgundy corduroy for shopping, smart leather jacket and a yellow puffer type which must be 20 years old but I love it. It feels like wrapping myself in a duvet. My favourite must be a Jaques Vert jacket. DH took me to the Savoy Grille on our 50th Anniversary. I decided to wear it and on the way to the cloakroom a 20 year old told me how much she liked it. I did not tell her it was probably older than she was!

I have a very long beautiful black coat which I bought from oxfam online last year. It wasn’t cheap but was new. I think one would have to be over 5’8” to wear it! I really appreciate it when I met up with a good friend in a pub garden recently and the weather was freezing. Other than that it doesn’t get worn often as not compatible with driving an mx5!

I have a "midweight" coat that must be about 12 or 15 years old. The zip broke several years ago and I had to cut myself out of it. Also has poppers to do up the coat, so, as it cost more to replace the zip than I paid for the whole coat, I still wear it but mainly just for doing the gardening!
I have looked in vain for a similar weight coat to no avail - it's got a great hood and most midweight coats in my price range don't have one!

I have a few coats - but my favourite gave up last winter after being my mother's favourite since the late 50s - and then passing to me when she died. It's been used every winter. Its now in my mending pile in the hope that I can repair it for next year.

At the last count my DiL had 70 coats and jackets plus bags and shoes to match them all.
She never wears most of them.

My downfall is coats. I just love them, only bought one this year and still not got to wear it as not suitable for dog walking and that's all I seem to do. Let's hope I'll get wearing it next winter.
