Toe nails

There are no NHS podiatric treatments offered in this area, apart from for diabetics - my husband goes every 6 months. My gp just told me to find a chiropodist but there are only a few locally and they aren't taking new patients (all currently closed anyway).
A salon treatment sounds blissful, and luckily I don't need medical attention for my feet.

I qualified as manicurist/ pedicurist. I can trim / file nails and can deal with hard skin, but I am not qualified to deal with corns, callouses or advise on other problems other than suggest a visit to a GP/ podiatrist.
However I can also give you a lovely relaxing, moisturising foot and leg massage.

Where I live there is no NHS podiatry but private podiatrists have been open through this lockdown and there are always appointments.
Some areas also have a toe nail cutting service which I think is through Age Concern and there is a small fee. This is for those who cannot bend down, not for those with problem feet.

There are private podiatrists. Worth shelling out for comfortable feet.

Oh dear! From what I have just read above, it seems my idea of seeing a podiatrist is a dead duck.

It's just that I have dealings with some elderly relations and two of them have definitely been three times to see the podiatrist since the first lockdown. I ought to know - I am the one who drives them to their appointments.

Podiatry covers so much more than trimming of toenails; I have only had one telephone appointment in 18 months and the system is very strange here. If I want another appointment I have to go back to the GP and be re-referred. A waste of the GP's time and mine as the GP does not understand the process (well, neither do I!).

Massive waiting lists for NHS podiatry. Round here anyway.

I think you should speak to your GP and ask to be referred to the Podiatrist. Podiatrists are operating at the moment - well, they are in the part of the UK where I live.

Both myself and my husband go to a podiatrist who trims our nails been going for years several times a year, lockdown permitting now of course, best thing ever! Paint my own toe nails, but have hard skin removed, Doppler put on feet to check pulses, what more can you ask,

Eyebrows ? Mine have all but gone and I hate to see pencilled-in ones.

I desperately need the two hedges normally called eyebrows trimmed. I also have been thinking about my toenails. I go to a chiropodist and it is money well spent. I cannot visit a salon because I have circulatory problems.

Local councils provide chiropody services but the waiting list is long.

I am not qualified to do some of the things that they can offer but I can certainly cut toe nails.
My treatments last about an hour and apart from toenail cutting include hard skin removal, pushing back cuticles, foot scrub, massage, toe, nail painting and moisturising. What’s not to like?
Even my clients who have to use a chiropodist/podiatrist usually come to me soon after their visit to have the ‘other bits’ done.
It’s also about the only treatment that gets a cup of coffee thrown in.

When I have a pedi/mani it’s also the conversation which is therapeutic, like a non-denomination confessional.

A farrier would be more in order for me.
Both fingernails and toenails grow like wildfire. I do my own toenails after a two hour soak of the feet and D goes mad in case I cut myself with being on warfarin, but I'm ever so careful and having no protuberances to speak of can bend quite freely.

Definitely book in to a reputable salon for a pedicure, ask around for a personal recommendation.

Tell the beautician of any niggles concerning your toenails and feet, then sit back and enjoy.

You know - I'm beginning to look forward to it - I'd never have thought I'd join the ranks of people looking forward to salons opening.

ExD go for it. A pedicure gives you a lovely boost you dont have to have your nails painted if you dont wish it. if you do given your difficulties you will need to back in a few weeks to have it taken off and possibly renewed which could turn out expensive.

Yes a good file (or cut) and shape and you get a lovely foot massage. ?

Pedicures are my favourite form of 'beauty treatment'. I'm so looking forward to one. I splash out on the luxury version. My poor feet don't do well after a winter of showers only and being hidden away in boots.

If you go for a pedicure they will cut and shape your nails for you, and you will have the pleasure of having pretty coloured toenails to admire as well. Enjoy!
