Silver fashionistas head online to Next

I remember coming back from
Hongkong in 1984 and being amazed by Next. Much more stylish than M&S, smarter, less expensive and less mumsy than Laura Ashley.
That was when George Davies was in charge.
I haven’t bought anything from there for years.

Correction: a Pokemon t-shirt for DGS a couple of weeks ago.

I’ve been to the park this afternoon in a dark grey wool pea coat I bought from Next in the Trafford Centre ... um... 20 years ago? It brushes up beautifully. Still looks smart. Only thing is, it’s a size 14 and I’m an 18 now. Oh well, means I just can’t fasten it is all, which doesn’t matter in the sunshine!

Unfortunately GagaJo returns to Next are far from free and require copious amounts of paperwork now the UK is no longer part of the EU.
I have to say as well their quality is not as good as it used to be, I will not be shopping there any more. ( I'm sure this will be a massive concern for them)

No I didn't discover that brand, GG, we were in Perth, back then Western Australia seemed to be regarded as a bit of backwater. What I do remember, shoes were pretty expensive and some people seemed to think it was worth their while, having factored in the fares, to go and buy quite a few pairs in Singapore which was cheaper than flying across to Victoria and New South Wales. Things may be different now of course.

When Next was first launched back in the dim and distant '80s I believe, it became the go to shop for my working wardrobe. Good quality and not too expensive. When I went out to Australia early eighties, I had several people there ask me where I had bought certain Next items when I wore them.

I abandoned them quite a while ago, I found the quality of their clothes went down hill. Obviously they are still quite popular so maybe I should revisit them again.

Did you shop in Country Road whilst in Australia, their shops were/are very similar to Next?

Ironically, delivery for Next overseas is free. Slightly galling, given that in the UK you have to pay for it.

I've spent a small fortune at Next. Mainly online.
I love their clothing, homeware, gifts, you name it, I buy it.
I'm still mod at 66.

twinnytwin How I wish I could sew the only things I have ever made was nursery curtains for my youngest boy who is now 38 I even lined them.
Let me loose in a kitchen and I can cook anything from simple meals to posh banquets hence me never able to be as slim as I was.

Isn't it lovely to be thinking about Spring/Summer wardrobe. I actually sew all of my own clothes now and usually I'm preparing new clothes for holidays etc. I haven't worn most of the summer clothes I sewed last year. Fingers crossed they fit now that I've put on the dreaded Covid half stone.
