Pumped up lips

I detest the latest fashion for pumped up lips, they never look natural. What will these women do in 5 years when it is no longer the fashion?

I saw Trinny the make-over guru on tv this week and her bottom lip looked very odd.

Your right 3nanny6 no one is immune from the pressure to appear young.

This thread has talked about the women having the pouted lips and tattooed eyebrows but do not forget that men also are going in for this. I watched a programme a few days ago about a company that sells really expensive handbags. The man that was delivering a bag to a client literally had his lips puffed up
tattooed eyebrows and immaculate hair and not a wrinkle on his forehead and personally I thought he looked so fake and
awful. I have seen several men on TV having work
on their faces like that and they all look like clones.

It's a form of subjugation, the same way the corset was.
Whilst women are seen primarily as sex objects there wont be any change in the lengths they will go to to 'advertise' their sexual currency any time soon.
All body mutilation or makeup is to attract attention from mates.
The boundaries as to which one is acceptable in society changes accordingly (ie the colour red. Cheeks lips dress indicating youth and prostitution, is readily accepted as the norm now)
It's still harder being a young woman than a young man
I wish it were otherwise.
Just my opinion. smile

M0nica

It is a form of self-mutilation, just one step away from self-harm.

Its interesting you say that, as I'm inclined to agree. But I dont think it's that simple.
Pierced ears, tattoos, to name a few procedures arnt linked I the same way to self harm.
Yet they hurt and permanently change the way one looks, and is done in the name of fashion

They'd all suffocate if they went round a windy corner.

Savvy

I've seen more attractive slugs in my kitchen than most women's pumped up lips. And as for botox, don't they realise that it's botulism? If it got into their digestive system it could kill.

Apparently the reasoning behind the lip fillers is because when we kiss, our lips naturally get fuller from increased blood flow, so they think using a filler makes them look sexy. I think I'd rather kiss the slugs in the kitchen.

i completely agree savvy, i too have always wondered who in their right mind would even consider injecting botulism into their faces. i can only assume that most of those who carry out the procedure, and the recipients have no idea what botox is.
with regard to the pumped up lips, a few years ago when the current craze for lip fillers began, i read somewhere that it originated because women wanted their facial lips to resemble their 'other' lips.
the mind boggles!

I agree, FarNorth, many of us do change the way we look; cutting and colouring hair is an accepted way of doing this. There is a view that some hair colouring may be harmful, both to the client and the hairdresser. Having chemicals injected into your skin is a step too far in my opinion though.

I agree, FarNorth, that make up can be a form of art. I've seen some beautifully made up faces, especially eyes.
But distorting the face is unnatural.

FarNorth Tue 27-Apr-21 00:06:30

People often want to change their looks, Ellan. It's how they do it that may, or may not, seem strange.

Lots of women change their looks with make up but I think very few of them look the better for it.

It's so depressing the way girls are turning into clones. The same ironed hair, black slug eyebrows and trout pouts. Once you've plumped the lips up like that the mouth looses its natural shape and you just have a pink sausage stuck on you face, just like all the others.

I think it’s sad that they feel they have to do this in order to feel better about themselves, I don’t think social media helps. But each to their own, lots of pressure on women to look a certain way, it’s never appealed to me

EllanVannin Sat 24-Apr-21 10:35:24

There are some huge mental issues in those who want to change their looks in some way. Questions into why should be first and foremost in finding a solution other than surgery or the like.
Why would anyone want to alter their facial appearance beyond recognition ?

henetha Sat 24-Apr-21 10:26:55

How can they be fooled into thinking it makes them look more attractive? I don't even like looking at them, great big fat slug lips. Ugh!

timetogo2016 Sat 24-Apr-21 10:17:16

They always remind me of a cod fish.

Redhead56 Sat 24-Apr-21 10:14:52

Unfortunately a lot of these procedures are performed to please men.

NanKate Sat 24-Apr-21 08:57:43

I’m obviously behind the times calling it the ‘latest fashion’?

Galaxy Sat 24-Apr-21 08:41:55

The pressure on women to look a certain way is horrendous. I think most of those surgeons are doing the opposite of do no harm.

TerriBull Sat 24-Apr-21 08:39:46

What amazes me is how perfectly nice looking women ruin their looks and actually make themselves look older by having such unnecessary work done.

Yes Wildswan, I think I remember reading someone who had had umpteen facial procedures, reject the idea of having a vaccine. Strange logic, or lack of logic!

Sarnia Sat 24-Apr-21 08:34:08

Pneumatic lips are comical. And why the fashion for jet black eyebrows, often tattooed on? It makes them look like Angry Birds.

Gingster Sat 24-Apr-21 08:32:48

Yes awful! Felicity Kendall used to be so pretty.

Did anyone see Cher on tv saving the elephants. My goodness, her face never moved,

EllanVannin Sat 24-Apr-21 08:30:31

Horrible, they look like rolls of lino, besides them all looking the same. Clones, no individuality.

Ellianne Sat 24-Apr-21 08:22:00

Yuck!
Doesn't it all go back to the likes of Marlene Dietrich and Marilyn? 1930s?
Very passé or maybe having a second innings?
