Would love to hear what high street brands you all use, particularly for cleansing etc. I do like Nivea for moisturising but struggle to find anything that makes much difference to my cleansing routine. I'm 62, my skin isn't particularly dry but I've noticed fairly recently my pores are a bit enlarged - nothing like when I was a teen - but not great, and it just doesn't look great. I've tried l'Oreal and seem to be slightly sensitive to it.

I use Lush Aqua Marina cleanser. You can take the pot back to Lush to be recycled & get 50p off your next purchase. I also use their toner, Eau Roma, using the reusable pads someone mentioned upthread. Boots No7 serum next, I’m over 60 now, so use the pink one (previously used the blue one), topped off with Nivea Q10 moisturiser, bought when it’s half price in Tesco’s. I find sweet almond oil best for removing make up.

I’ve never heard of Tropic, which places stock it, please?

Daily routine and products

Morning
Cleanser CeraVe (Boots)
Toner (make my own)
Serum (Avon Anew at the moment)
Moisturiser (CeraVe with Rosehip oil mixed in)
Suncream

Nightime
Cleanser and makeup remover (CeraVe and I make my own makeup remover)
Toner (as above)
Dermatica (specialist cream using tretnoin)
Night moisturiser (La Roche Posay Toleraine)

Weekly

Facemask (I make my own from oats, honey and milk)

It takes time to improve and the older you are when you start the process the more work you have to put in.

I got into my routine in my 40s and whilst good genes plays a part the earlier you start a routine the better.

Fortunately neither of my parents looked their age so that helps. With the routine as well people generally think I'm mid to late 40s. I am 59 + 1. Yup that's how I'll be until I'm used to the next no ?

I also do facial yoga which takes a couple of minutes per day.

This routine may sound big. It really isn't. It's 5 minutes on a morning and 5 on a night with a couple of extra minutes for facial yoga

Tesco soap and water, then either Nivea, Boots or M&S moisturising cream

Jaan12 Sun 12-Dec-21 12:21:25

For cleansing, soap from Tesco(not tested on animals) and water. For moisturising, Nivea cream or Boots cream.

I use Clarins. But it hurts if you get it in your eyes!!

I wonder if, if you are wiping your face with cleansing lotion, you are simply adding a layer of oil Philomena? I used to have open pores but discovered Glamglow (hideous American packaging) which is extraordinarily effective at removing them and tightening. Their Mud Mask is excellent. x

Philomena. When I was a young teenager my boyfriend used TCP to deal with his poor complexion. I was very fond of him and for a long time the scent of TCP left me weak at the knees!

My aesthetician says that exfoliating your skin is important to minimize the appearance of pores. So, I use Clinique 7-day Scrub daily. It really does keep my skin smooth and keeps the size of my pores under control.

I love the Clarins One Step Facial Cleanser with orange oil and have used this for a few years. I occasionally try something different but always go back to this.
I find the best moisturisers for my skin are Avon Cannabis Sativa Oil calming day cream which is a great buy, my more luxury choice would be Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream. I’m taking Marine Collagen supplements now too which seem to be helping my skin hair & nails.

Pedwards Sat 11-Dec-21 20:06:50

I’ve use Simple products for years and they do anti ageing moisturisers for day and night, sorted!

Cleansing wash from Aldi - does the job and really soft, lasts for ages

NemoNanna Sat 11-Dec-21 18:22:36

Another fan of the Tropic range. All natural ingredients and they smell divine!

mrsgreenfingers56 Sat 11-Dec-21 18:20:36

Find the Avon Anew range excellent.

The Platinum range is for over 60's so afraid just started on that!

I don’t spend on creams and regime but I do use my Foreo Bear and take Imedeen Prime Renewal. Expensive but, always 3 for 2 at Boots. It’s been amazing and there have been some very strange results. I have had “creases” in my nails and a dry skin patch on my back which has had a few treatments from my GP. Within 4 months, the dry skin had gone. Totally gone, never to (so far) return. And the ridges on my nails are gone. I don’t “do” my nails, can’t be bothered so now they’re short as always but shiny and ridge/splitting free.

I think it’s the Imedeen. This was last year, aged 58. Now 59.

Liz Earle for me ,I have been using the cleanse and polish for about 15 years now I find I look forward to use it twice a day as it make my skin feel great,I have on occasion used the Aldi version and find that great but tend to stock up when there is free postage on Liz Earle website or QVC.

An Aunt once told me to keep your skin looking nice never use soap, she used oatmeal in muslin bags to wash her face also always cover you face with a large brimmed hat and wear gloves to avoid damaging sun. She told me this over 50 years ago and would be about 120 if still alive. She was well before her time in thinking.
I use Body shop Vitamin E cleanser, Elemis Pro Collagen balm for face wash or Body Shop Chamomile balm or LIz Earle hot cloth cleanser. I exfoliate twice a week with Liz Earle gentle exfoliator or Body Shop Vitamin C exfoliator . Then I use Body Shop Vitamin E moisturiser - have used others but always come back to this. Also Elemis pro collagen eye mask.
I tried retinol creams but they didn’t react very well on my skin. I have tried various serums but cant find one I like.

I have not used soap on my face since I was old enough to wash myself and now only use Micellar water. There are many brands but I usually go for Nivea or Garnier. I rarely use make-up these days, but this is also a good remover for that. And my skin is soft and smooth, not bad for a 75 year old!

Unigran4 Sat 11-Dec-21 17:10:13

With you there sazz1 I have only ever used plain warm water. I only wore make-up on my wedding day and hated it (the make-up not the wedding day!).

Trudging relentlessly towards my eighties I have no spots, blemishes or wrinkles.

Aren't we all varied in what we use and how we use it smile. I've learnt a lot from this thread which is great. Also really interested in the olive oil tip for toe nails! In looking at some of these products online, I've also discovered that reusable pads are a thing! I didn't even know they existed! So I've gone with Nivea Micellar Water for sensitive skin for now, with some reusable pads and I may well top up with a wash.

AlpineGranny Sat 11-Dec-21 16:54:15

Always Liz Earle cleanse and polish. Quick and easy

Candelle Sat 11-Dec-21 16:46:22

I used to use single-use make-up remover sheets that were for both facial and eye-make-up. I thought they were doing a good job........ However,I was astonished at how much grime was left on my face when I then tried using micellar water with make-up pads. Particularly after the single sheet remover had been used, the dirt and make-up additionally removed by the micellar water was incredible.

I have tried several brands of micellar water and they all seem to work well.

Corkie91 Sat 11-Dec-21 16:06:24

Liz Earle are my favourite skin care range but Aldi do some really good hot cloth cleansers
and moisturisers at greatt prices

DanniRae Sat 11-Dec-21 15:53:25

Most days I use a flannel and warm water on my face - some times a wash off cleanser - Neal's Yard or Nivea. Some days I moisturise with Oil of Olay 7 but most days I don't. To be honest I don't deserve the skin I have as I am so casual about my skin routine confused

Gwyneth Sat 11-Dec-21 15:42:24

I’m a bit late to the party urmstongran but thanks for the tip re the olive oil shall certainly try it. Enjoyed reading what other posters use too. I tend to buy what’s on offer when I need to replace skin products but shall certainly look out for some of the products mentioned.

Nanales Sat 11-Dec-21 15:34:43

I always use a clean wet/damp flannel to remove my cleanser. I have been using Elemis for the last 6-7 years, which is not cheap but absolutely lovely. Fortunately I have 4 kids so my cleanser is usually birthday and Xmas presents from them. Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanser is nice too.
