They have some capes and ponchos on sale (but still pricey) at House of Bruar.

There are lots of capes and ponchos to be seen on QVC ( reliableI have found) . Many by Frank Usher. I have stiff shoulders so aware of the problem. I have aFU cape edged with “ fur” and You can wear a thick jumper under if you need to.

I have a muscle/ tendon problem in one arm and find getting my coat on difficult, but have realised that if I put my ‘bad’ arm in the sleeve first it’s easier to do.

Look on essentialaids.com, there are gadgets there that might help with getting dressed.

I have trouble getting my coat on, not because of the stroke I had in July, but due to a partially-torn tendon in my shoulder.

The fashion pages and websites seem full of ponchos, cloaks, wraps, call them what you will, that you just wrap round your shoulders and fasten.

Do a google search and see what comes up.

Thanks, everyone. I’ll try that tomorrow. Getting dressed and undressed becomes such a performance I tend to go to bed early, to get it over with!

Ashcombe - such a clever technique! I think I've gone back to those days and have upper body mobility pdoblems too.
I'm going to try it.
Allule - it takes me abot 15 minutes to get ready to go out. the shoe change takes longest,

I love ponchos, I have several at the moment. Some are fairly short, mid thigh length but I have two which are mid calf length. None of mine are waterproof but I have a thin waterproof cape ( similar to a cycling one) which I got from an outdoor type shop, to wear on top in the rain. It is very full and I can put it on over a back pack which helps me. It might not look elegant but keeps me dry as it also has a hood.

Ashcombe that’s the one I meant it woks really well.

Sorry JaneJudge didn’t realise it was a link. Thought you’d forgotten to post the picture. Silly me. Yes it does look nice.

Clever technique which I intend to try. Here’s the link:-

Invisible capes aren’t really warm enough for our climate JaneJudge.

OH sad I know they do barbour type capes for us country folk to but I haven't been able to justify buying one..yet

I have a cashmere poncho and it is very cosy indeed. Would thoroughly recommend ponchos. Hope this helps. Have seen gorgeous ones on Brand Alley this year. Variety of wool/fabric, not only cashmere!

Please bear with me........I do not want this to sound stupid......I would be tempted to get myself to somewhere like Dunelm and get a single size fleece throw and wear it like a wrap. Put it across the back of your shoulders slightly off-centre, tuck the shorter end over one shoulder but under the throw then take the other longer end and sling it over the other shoulder! Sorted Warm Easy to wear!

If you can lift your arms up over your head you could do the flip trick they use it at my GGDs nursery.

Just google (flip trick coats )

get a cape smile this one looks nice smile

LauraNorderr Wed 29-Dec-21 14:47:48

Allule that sounds very painful.
Could you buy a nice warm fleece throw and get someone with nimble fingers to put a hole in the middle with a stretchy border to pull over your head.
There are spray products if you need it to be waterproof.
I’m sure our keen shoppers will be along soon to point you in the right direction for a warm and waterproof poncho.
Good luck, hope you find something suitable so that you can enjoy some fresh air.

I enjoy going for walks, but by the time I have battled with socks, shoes, and coat, I am already exhausted.

I have poor mobility in my arms and shoulders, and putting on a coat without help is such a struggle. I have tried putting shoulders on first, arms in first, putting coat over a chair…no easier, and painful.
I have been looking out for a cape like the ones in Call the Midwife, but no luck so far.
Anyone got any advice, or do I just have to wait for summer?
