Swim wear question

I go for exercises in a hydrotherapy pool which has just re-opened. We are asked to come ready dressed in our swimming costumes so as to speed up time spent in the changing room. Most of us are elderly, and most of us have the same problem.
We find that coverage of the crotch area very skimpy and have been searching for something more discreet than current swimwear provides.
Many of us wear tankinis (makes a quick trip to the loo easier) so we are looking for bikini-type bottoms.
M&S provide very poor coverage, so do Next, ASDA and Tesco, also Matalan (we buy cheap because nothing lasts long with chlorine).
Can someone recommend anything suitable?

Lands End make swimwear with good coverage (well they did in this past, apologies if they don’t anymore!)

Can you provide an image of what you DON'T want?

FannyCornforth Thu 10-Feb-22 14:12:07

Yep, they still do and it’s chlorine resistant smile

If you’re worried about coverage you’d be better off with swim shorts than bikini bottoms. Loads of stockists, including Next, Boden, Debenhams, Land’s End. Just Google ‘woman’s swim shorts’.

Another vote for Lands End, for comfort, although they don't last long.
However, as a life-long swimmer, I would say that good chlorine resistant suits DO last longer than cheap ones.
I would look at websites like 'simply swim'.
My own trick is to buy the more expensive brands when they are on sale.

I am very self conscious and am still working myself up to wearing a swimming costume on holiday.

I have bought a swim dress (I think that is what they are called). The top part is loose and not clingy. I got mine from Bon Marche. It is similar to the one in the picture. It comes just below my crotch.

I really wanted something that also covered the top six inches or so of my (fat) legs so I bought a pair of swim shorts in the same colour to wear under or over the bottom half.

Zoggs do a good range online. I’ve had one for ages that fits well and is chlorine resistant.

shorts would be better.
can still use with the tops you already have.
keep the bikini bottoms for under clothes, eg as knickers.
waste not, want not.

Zoggs everytime!

I too, was going to suggest Bon Marche

On holiday my cases got lost and had to borrow, for swimming I used mens Boxer Shorts, needs must

I bought a swim dress for my holiday a couple of years ago.

From this company

Another vote for Lands End for Me. They do swim dresses that have are in fact a two piece, dresskinis, or tugless swimsuits, lower cut legs etc. They are quite expensive, have 40 percent off at the moment. worth a look.

Lol katie
Gagajo I can't find a pic to show you - all the images show slender models with their legs discreetly crossed, not elderly women trying to exercise without displaying their bits - not a pretty sight. There are only 8 of us per session now, with social distancing, but several of us feel uncomfortable about it.
Thank you to those who suggest shorts - I might set a trend, who knows

If you search for boyleg swimwear you will find a good choice of shorts and costumes.

Sainsbury’s had a swimsuit with a skirt when I visited last week.

A bit puzzled by this, I just buy ordinary swimming costumes anywhere and haven't noticed this problem. has it started since lockdown?

rosie1959 Fri 11-Feb-22 17:06:55

Speedo do tankinis which might solve your problem

I like to keep everything covered, so wear swim shorts (or surfboard shorts) with 'built in' bikini bottoms, like these:
