Hair styling

Thank you everyone for your advice think I'll invest in a hot brush seems the easiest ?

I do not use any styling equipment at all, not even a hairdryer. I too have dead straight hair with a will of its own, which could look like BJs if I let it.

I just look at hairstyles anywhere I see them until I find a style that depends on cutting only and has a fringe, essential because whatever I do my hair falls over my face, and is modelled by someone with a short neck and long face like mine. Take it to a good hairdresser and get it well cut.

When I wash it, I always massage some Argan oil through it, befotre combing it into style. This is quite effective in controlling the fly-away aspect of my hair and keeping it straight and tidy.

I have a jaw length bob which I manage easily. Rough dry it with hairdryer. Then use plug in heated brush. Pin up the top of the hair with clip, dry the bottom hair in sections, which leaves it straight and under at the ends. Un Pin the top and repeat, lifting it from the roots. Always performs well like this.

I have a lot of quite coarse slightly wavy hair Lilliesmum which I recently had cut to collarbone length.

I’ve always been useless at blow drying so what sometimes I do is leave it till almost dry then section it and use the Babyliss big hair rotary dryer. More often though I leave it till bone dry then section it and use wide barrel tongs which makes it a bit curly at first but that quickly drops out.

I’m sure when I was younger I could just wash and go but if I were to do that now I’d look like the wicked witch of the north.

Interesting that the hairdresser used a paddle-type brush - a friend has thick hair and uses a paddle straightener when it's nearly dry which gives it a very nice styled look with bounce. You use it with a special glove, so the hair is between the brush and hand.

My hair's not so thick and I use the trusty Babyliss rotating brush.

Looks very simple when someone else is doing it though! I never seem to have enough hands when drying my hair, and one side always goes better than the other.

That’s why we have hairdressers, would have no need if we were all professionals.

I can style my own hair, it’s a past chin length bob, just a few layers. I let it almost dry and out big heated rollers in. I go out immaculate and within minutes it’s all over my face and in my mouth. It’s thick fine hair and is great as long as I stay in. Seriously thinking of having a pixie cut.

I’m hopeless at blow drying but use a Babyliss rotating hot air brush from Boots ( about £45.) You get get them in 3 brush sizes to suit the length of your hair. I wouldn’t say my hair looks perfect but it’s a big improvement! I also use large rollers to add a bit of oomph after it’s dried.

It just takes practice, find a style you want to copy and look on YouTube for how to do it. Always use a heat protector.

Good luck with that Lilliesmum79, I've been blow drying and straightening my hair for years and now I want it to curl, it won't ? I hate using products but it looks like I'll have to.
