Summer dress - help!

I have set my heart on a summer dress, but oh lord, can I find anything that looks anything like. I am 5ft 6" tall with a long torso and everything I look at is short-waisted. I don't want a waist that sits somewhere under my boobs! I am a standard size 12. I have given up on JL, M & S, Next. Even browsing the more expensive websites brings up the same issue.

Anyone got any advice on where to look next?

Another vote for Boden, also The White Company, Hush and Mint Velvet have some beautiful dresses in at the moment.

I would use the above plus jaegar on M&S and John Lewis.

Hush is good, as is Odd Molly (quite expensive that one, but good all the same) but my favourite is Walkers Style which is online only but the clothes are wacky and wonderful.

I have the same problem and don’t wear or buy dresses anymore, but a friends daughter who is tall and long waisted suggested NEXT. As I only, because of fitting won’t bother looking for skirts or dresses, but it might be worth a try for you - good luck

Some dresses fit just under the bust then slightly widen as they go down to a full'ish A shape skirt. It gives a fitted look without a definite waistline. I bought a couple of lovely ditsy print midis from Roman (online) and M&Co. They are slightly stretchy too which is comfortable. I didn't want a definite fitted waistline nor a tent and these were perfect. Good luck

I’m 5’7”. Try Fatface? I love the way their hems dip an inch lower behind the knees too. I bought 2 lovely ones at their shop in Manchester airport last month. £45. Not cheap but decent material. And pockets in the side seams!

Have a look at the Long Tall Sally website

Try Joe Browns

Why not try 'Long Tall Sally', they cater to tall women. They are only available on the internet.

Lucky all you 5ft 6in people who can wear midi dresses. I'm 5ft 2in and midi dresses reach the floor. I would like to find a midi dress which fits me.

Another vote for White Stuff. They always include dress length information which I find very useful. Many sites quote knee length or midi which can mean absolutely anything!
White Stuff update their stock very regularly so it’s worth revisiting. They also have regular sales/discounts/offers - probably because they update regularly.

Try New Look. 25% off dresses at the moment. Midi length is great on me at 5’1. Good Luck ??

Sainsbury's have some nice clothes, but, regarding dresses have you tried Cotton Traders or Mountain Warehouse. I know it might sound strange to try an outdoor shop, but Ive heard people say Mountain Warehouse dresses are good. I don't know about sizing but they have an online store.

Mint Velvet, Hush, Poetry. Three of my favourites.

There is a website called Silk Fred which is very good. They are based in the UK and they have 100’s of dresses from all types of different suppliers.
They offer free and easy returns if you aren’t happy with anything. Prices vary from fairly cheap to quite expensive.

I have the same issue with baring my legs and I wear coloured tights or go for the longer length dresses.

Oops should read boobssmile

Have you tried weird fish?. I love their dresses. I'm size 14 to 16 with big boobs. I fine a size 16 fits well. Sometimes they do tall range which helps accommodate the boots smile

Possibly try a different style? I’m 5ft 10 and find elasticated waists etc are too high. Have more luck with “tea dresses” which tend to be shaped rather than have a demarcated waist line.

Thanks to those who recommended Popsy. I've never heard of them. What lovely dresses. I will definitely be ordering.

Lizbethann55 Thu 14-Apr-22 18:37:08

I am only 5' 3" but still find that waists are always too high. I have recently bought myself some clothes from Roman. Chesca looks very nice , but is expensive

KKKKATIE Thu 14-Apr-22 17:08:51

Try Long Tall Sally on line.

Lpull Thu 14-Apr-22 17:01:49

My sister is 5ft 6ins and has this problem, especially with Boden. In fact I’m 5ft 1in and I have the same problem with Boden!!! We’ve stopped buying dresses from Boden

Toddleo Thu 14-Apr-22 16:46:02

Already been mentioned I'm sure, but Popsy/Seasalt/Boden/Joe Brown
