Summer dress - help!

I have set my heart on a summer dress, but oh lord, can I find anything that looks anything like. I am 5ft 6" tall with a long torso and everything I look at is short-waisted. I don't want a waist that sits somewhere under my boobs! I am a standard size 12. I have given up on JL, M & S, Next. Even browsing the more expensive websites brings up the same issue.

Anyone got any advice on where to look next?

I am only 5' 3" but still find that waists are always too high. I have recently bought myself some clothes from Roman. Chesca looks very nice , but is expensive

Try Long Tall Sally on line.

My sister is 5ft 6ins and has this problem, especially with Boden. In fact I’m 5ft 1in and I have the same problem with Boden!!! We’ve stopped buying dresses from Boden

Already been mentioned I'm sure, but Popsy/Seasalt/Boden/Joe Brown

I wish I could wear a pretty dress - my legs are too skinny, and marked due to eczema ?

Could you not wear brightly coloured tights or footless tights underneath.

Joe Browns is fab, just bought a lovely summer dress for my son's wedding there

OP said she has already given up on John Lewis!

I got a nice dress from T K Maxx

I've got some from Matalan and I got a lovely powder blue one from George last week, it's gorgeous on and definitely won't break the bank.

JaneJudge Thu 14-Apr-22 15:18:15

seasalt or moshulu?

Matalan?

Another vote for Seasalt and Adini. Roman also worth a look.

Daisymae Thu 14-Apr-22 14:57:17

I've just bought a dress on Seasalt. They say they fit them onto real women! Don't know who the others fit them to. Anyway I have high hopes for this ?.

I swear by Seasalt cornwall and Joules. Have a look. Seasalt uses beautiful fabrics, and lovely designs. They make most of their dresses in a petite, medium, and tall range too so you should find styles which fit your body.

You could try Live Unlimited too.

Another vote for Seasalt from me. They have some lovely designs.

I have completely given up and gone back to making my own. Style have some really nice patterns with really good fitting instructions. I can also ensure that I will be wearing a cotton mix of some kind rather than man-made fibres!

Try
www.sosandar.com or
www.silkfred.com
Both have lovely dresses to suite all sizes & reasonable priced too

yellowcanary Thu 14-Apr-22 13:29:04

I bought some lovely summer dresses from Asda Living, very reasonable prices (and at the time 20% off as well so basically one was free) smile

Thank you all so much, I am now happily browsing and homing in on a suitable dress. I like the point about the models being about 5'8" or more, so the modeled item looks like it is short in the torso, or maybe my home dressing making skills need resurrecting. hmm

I agree with the suggestions so far, especially Boden & Sahara, but nobody has mentioned Weird Fish. I bought 2 lovely dresses from them for a ridiculously low price. I wasn't expecting anything too marvellous for the money but I was more than pleased with my purchases. Good quality, great fit & excellent delivery.
