Yes, a couple of friends and I used to go to a FE College years ago.
Then we'd have lunch cooked by the catering students ?

Yes sorry I did mean college not university. Thank you so much for all your replies I shall be looking to book an appointment soon. The local college only reopened two weeks ago so expect it will be busy. Thank you all again.

MawtheMerrier i envy you, his styles were my idea of the perfect styles for me. I had thick dead straight dark hair.

Yes. Yes and yes again Sunnyoutlook I have had some standout amazing hair restyles including having all the remaining dark dye removed and a lovely colour and cut.

This did take hours but because I was due to be admitted for a planned bypass op shortly I sat back, accepted all the hot and cold drinks offered and was grateful my hair felt good post op as I lay on my back for what felt like weeks (it wasn’t in reality)

Unfortunately the college salon has been closed since the Pandemic and won’t reopen until they have trained up all the new intake of students but I will be first in the queue for an appointment.

I`ve had my hair done at the college along the road several times over the last few years, a lot cheaper than at a hairdresser and always pleased with the results. However, I got fed up with the length of time spent in there, as every little step has to be checked by the supervisor before carrying on, so no longer go. It`s a lovely, well equipped salon though.

In a similar style, I had all my dentistry done at a University Dental School for years. I felt entirely safe because they were so closely supervised. I would expect it to be the same with trainee hairdressers.

Their work is closely supervised so you won't be experimented on. This has been going on since the 1960s in hairdressing and beauty salons at technical colleges. Back then you were charged according to the cost of the materials, so a facial would cost more (using expensive creams) and a body massage VERY cheap because they only used some massage oil.

Have done this frequently in the past, at local colleges but not universities.

Always been happy especially the spa treatments, it helps them practice on the public and helps us save a lot of money.

My friend used to go to our local college for hairdressing. It was so cheap, but took ages. Once she was there for 4 hours as the Tutor wasn’t happy with the result and made her student re-do it.
In the end my friend now has someone come to her house, as she reckoned her time was more valuable than the money she saved.

I work at a Further Education college, where students are doing more practical, vocational-type courses, (City & Guilds, NVQ, etc), including hairdressing.
I've had my hair cut and coloured with great results. The students are given work on customers according to which level they are at - so, for example, a Level 3 student can do all the different types of colouring.
The students are under the watchful eye of their tutors the whole time.
Go for it - you'll save a fortune!

Sunnyoutlook yes, Ive used the one in our local college, very happy, they do all sorts of other things, I’m thinking about booking a pedicure. The students are closely supervised, so it takes a bit longer.

I have my hair done occasionally by a student at my normal salon and it's fine. It costs about a third of the price. I have used the college ones in the past and I think they are fine but I am not a complete fuss pot about my hair iykwim so i tend to let them do what they want (within reason)
